How to Store Mineral Makeup Samples

There are several ways that you can store your mineral makeup samples. However, my two favorite ways are in small 5 gram jars, or as I just finally tried, in a binder.

Here’s my binder :)

Binders are pretty inexpensive, and so are sheets to fill the binders.
5 gram jars can usually be bought for anywhere between .30 and .50 cents.

You can also go to Michael’s and buy little containers that are very inexpensive as well.
I use these usually for custom mixes that I make.

How do you store your samples?

That’s genius Anastasia! If I’m not feeling lazy I transfer them to sifter jars, but they usually just sit there until they get lost otherwise.

Lol, I’m not Anastasia, but I’m glad you like my ideas :)

And yeah, I like sifter jars but I’m starting to see the genius in the binder, as it’s a lot easier to deal with and flip through.

I love storing them like that, makes it so much easier to find your minerals! And yes allergies are so horrible!

When mine were at their worst in Northern California, I couldn’t wear my contacts because the inside of my eye lids had little allergy bumps and the sunlight would blind me outside. It was miserable.

That’s actually why I chose Decorative, because I do like to bake from scratch, make curtains and pillows, as well as costumes and sometimes even jewelry :)
    All decorative stuff!

Sorry, I had to make a correction:

I had a group of mica colors in jars that screwed to each other (bought in Las Vegas). I never used them. What a mess every time I opened the cap(s). Plus the colors were obscured by the jars.

I transferred them this week to tiny ziplocks. Labeled them and put them in a larger ziplock labeled LV (then the color name). Wow! even the colors look right (vs. looking thru the jars.)

I transferred ALL my odd loose powder (except AL and BE) to tiny ziplocks — HOURS of work, but now they are usable. Wow! whata stash I have!

My ziplocks are combined by color in larger ziplocks. I just dump them out on the counter and pick shades that go together, holding them up against my skin and the light.

I dunno that I’d get a binder. This takes up less room — plus they are easy to toss into a bag for travel. Not cumbersome.

That sounds like it would work pretty well, too.

I like the binder because I can flip through and see things easier, but that's just my preference. Some people use tiny bags organized in boxes, so whatever works best for you :>

I don’t think my way would work past a certain number, whatever that might be. I guess it is easier for me to pick a color by holding the individual color up to my face.

When I say I dump them out, I only mean the teals, for example, then put them away; then the pinks (or whatever) to choose a complementary color.

It’s working for now, anyway. I had so many glitters. I had put them in pill containers, but I didn’t realize that they are not tightly sealed. Oops! Even though they came in little jars, I was looking for a way to pick more easily, and sometimes the glitter was falling out of the jar even when closed (I noticed that with an AL the other day. It was a glam glitter, and I might have to bag it.)
