So my laptop shat itself last night. It started having artifacting all over the screen, the video card went wonky and the hard drive started making a crunchy sound. I was trying to get my files off of it, to no avail.
This morning, I took it to work. I took my boss to the chiropractor and after that we hit Best Buy to buy a rapidfish (i think it was called) that would let me take the laptop harddrive out, put it in that, and then be able to connect it to another machine to get my files off.
However, that didn’t work. Getting the laptop apart took several hours, but once we finally did, we found out I had a raid inside. Fun. So the rapidfish wouldn’t work.
We hooked it up to my friend’s laptop, which is the same make and model as my own, and it kept erroring, couldn’t get it to let us boot properly.
She finally hit on the idea of us copying files off in Dos. So, with all the current technology there is, we used the old school method of copying the files from my hard drive to my external hard drive I’d bought to store the files. This still took several hours to get everything copied off.
I didn’t lose my work files, I didn’t lose my personal files, and I didn’t lose my music. This is good. I’m not sure if I lost my personal stuff for Firefox/Thunderbird, though we’re hoping that’s not the case, because I archive my work mail and want it to be saved.
Today has sucked. Today has sucked horribly. Thanks to my friends for all of their assistance in trying to get my files off.
Our Financial Controller at work called Sony and supposedly a technician will be out sometime soon to fix my laptop, but this is the ABSOLUTE WORST week it could break down. Considering we have somewhere close to 40 machines with our business account with Sony, and all of these machines are under warranty, we expect a faster response time. We have our MMO release on Friday. Right now I’m trying to make due with an old Alienware machine to see if I can get everything set up on here to allow me to work. My stress levels are through the roof. *sigh*
I may not be posting on here for a while. Bleh. I’ll still be checking emails and responses and responding as I can.
