Please keep in mind, I am not a hair specialist. I have no formal training. This is just what I do with my hair, and what I have learned through 15 years of practicing on myself. It may not work on your hair.
I tend to prefer unnatural colors when I dye my hair, so that normally means one of the following options for me:
Pravan Chromasilk Vivids, which come in Silver, Yellow, Orange, Red, Pink, Magenta, Violet, Green or Blue.
Manic Panic, which has a plethora of shades, though my favorites are After Midnight Blue, Atomic Turquoise, Vampire Red, Pillarbox Red, Ultra Violet and Black & Blue.
Beyond the Zone, my favorites being Raspberry Kamikaze, Purple Passion and Tripped Up Turqouise.
I usually start with a Beyond the Zone Bleach Kit to bleach the sections of my hair that I want colored. I leave the bleach in my hair probably 20 to 30 minutes, applying at the tips and putting it on my roots last. I watch the hair carefully to see how its lightening and then immediately rinse it out when it’s as light as I desire it to be.
Then I apply my color, either Pravana or vegetable dyes, depending upon what I’m doing, and foil them in sections. I then put a cap over all of my hair and leave the color in my hair for several hours. Now, I rarely get my hair colored at the salon these days though I do enjoy it, mostly because I can’t get it done the way I like it, in a way that tends to last in my hair. I tend to leave my vegetable dyes in for anywhere from 3 to 8 hours, making sure my hair is fully saturated. This helps the color to be ultra vivid and last a lot longer in my hair.
An alternate trick that you can do with vegetable dyes, if you don’t want to leave the color in for 3 hours, is to mix the Lightest Ash blonde permanent dye or a clear permanent dye with 20 developer and the vegetable dye and leave that on your hair for 20 minutes to a half hour.
Again, this is what works on my hair, and may not work on your hair.

Hello Cotton
YEA, TY
I tried the Manic Panic in hot pink but it only lasted 4 days
what do you suggest i try
Hi Renee,
You're welcome
I just thought it would be helpful if I wrote up everything that I do when it comes to dyeing hair.
Hey Phyrra, how long do you suggest leaving the Pravana Vivids on? My hair is naturally jet black, hubby's is a dark brown and we're both about to do some streaks. I just want to make sure his silver and my blue/violet/green stays as long as possible.
Hi Morgana,
I haven't done the Pravana for a while, but I think a half hour to 45 minutes is what I did for them. They're a bit different.
