Aromaleigh Les Papillons Video

The new Les Papillons collection is available for purchase at Aromaleigh. I received my samples today and I’ve swatched them for you and also put together a video to show you the colors.

You can see the samples here:

And here are my swatches. I took the pictures in different lighting conditions to try to show off the complexities of the colors.

The video will be posted here shortly:

    Hi Phyrra,

You replied to a question of mine in the Aromaleigh forum and I clicked your sig link. I hope you don't mind me dropping in to say hi. :) I spent $92 dollars on Aromaleigh samples the day before this collection was posted, and then had to go back and buy samples from this one too! I still haven't gotten either order yet but seeing this post makes me so excited for them. My mailman best be on his guard!

I'm trying to branch out into the world of color and fashion- I'm so clueless! I've started documenting everything at karmicdreaming.net if you're interested in the ramblings of a complete style noob.

    And your hair? It's GORGEOUS!

Welcome to my blog! Glad that you're trying Aromaleigh out, they're fantastic :) I hope my swatches help.

Thanks for the compliments on my hair!

I'm not a huge fan of loose mineral shadows…but your last two swatch posts of Aromaleigh and Meow, I am taking a second look at them. Some of those colors are just so pretty and unique. I'm trying very hard not to order some!

  7. Nea September 16, 2009 at 9:52 am #

So pretty colors! Thanks for doing swatches & video, again :D

    Hi Laura,
Glad you liked my descriptions! Too bad I have a cold and sound a bit weird.

    Hi Jackiego2,
I used to prefer pressed shadows, but with companies like Aromaleigh and Meow, the pigmentation is so good, I now prefer loose shadows. You should at least sample some to see if you like it :)

    Hi Nea,
    You're quite welcome!

Gah. I'm so annoyed you have your order already! I'm still waiting for mine. I bet the mail guy is holding them hostage. :D I love the purples, and can't wait to get my paws on Morphing Moon. Great video, by the way. :)

I love to see all those delicious colors. I use Bare Esscentials and TheSheSpace minerals. Have you ever used the latter?

  11. Phyrra September 16, 2009 at 4:45 pm #

    Hi Apriltini,
Awww, I am happy to be able to do the swatches and the review video though! What do you want to wear with Morphing Moon?

    Hi Lucy,
I've tried TheSheSpace and I found their colors to be hit or miss. Some are good, some are not so good, in my opinion.

Thanks for the video! It's too cute how Phaedra is lolling around in the background. I think that is a trait poodles have…to lay around on their backs wiggling around, sort of how a baby would. They are so much like humans!

Surprisingly, I am not really impressed with this collection from what I've seen so far. The colors looked really beautiful in the shots where they were placed in the tops of the big plastic pigment containers http://blog.aromaleigh.com/blog/2009/09/formulating-butterflyinspired-colors-with-a-master-artist.html. But on the online swatches they look flat and I am having a hard time seeing duotones. I am really hoping Kristen gets the descriptions up soon because those are usually the best indicators of how complex a color is.

Right now I am only interested in Flutura's Cloud, Zephyr's breeze, Ephemeral Violet and Dormant Dream. I am interested in what the highlights/lowlights are in morphing moon. Oh, and possibly Spread your Wings, but I already own Tigrilla and I am wondering how they compare. I know Flutterby is an obvious duotone but have a feeling that that color won't work on me.

  13. Phyrra September 16, 2009 at 9:22 pm #

    Hi Tally,
I don't feel like the colors are duotones, except maybe Flutter-by. HOWEVER, you can clearly see a base color and then a sparkle color with the colors, if that makes sense. When I think duotone, I think like, Meow's Bromelaid or Mayantu, or Fyrinnae's Faerie Glamour.

  14. Tally7 September 16, 2009 at 10:00 pm #

Hmm, Kristen described the colors as

"These colors are intense, bright, very pigmented and blendable… very, very complex. Each shade is composed of 10-12 pigments to provide the most unique, dimensional, layered and effective formulation."

So I am wondering why the look are looking flat-ish in the swatches. I don't consider just different colored sparkles overly dimensional. For example, Heartleaf has these really neat purple sparks in a base of green, but once applied, the sparks aren't very noticeable. I considered colors like skyscraper and gridlock to be dimensional.

So I guess what I am asking is whether the shades are "Heartleaf" dimensional or "gridlock" dimensional.

  15. Phyrra September 16, 2009 at 10:03 pm #

    Hi Tally,
I think they're somewhere in between.
Hm, you know how with Italian Ice you can see the pink sparkles? You can see the color sparkles in these very vividly. Like with the green shades you can see the pink sparkles very vividly.

  16. Phyrra September 16, 2009 at 10:05 pm #

Like, Soul Takes Flight reminds me of Fyrinnae's Fyre & Ice shadow.

  17. Tally7 September 16, 2009 at 10:10 pm #

Hmm, ok, like an amped up Heartleaf so that the sparkles are more visible? Just read your other comment. Ok, amped up heartleaf with more than one sparkle color sounds about right now. I can't wait to hear the color descriptions! That will help the most to decide which colors are complex enough for me to shell out some dough for ;) .

  18. Phyrra September 16, 2009 at 10:11 pm #

Yes, to me, the sparkles are very clear :)

  19. Melissa September 17, 2009 at 2:07 am #

Just got mine! The colors are bright, beautiful, and rich… Wore Crimson Mimicry with Golden Chrysalis tonight and it is a beautiful combo that blends well together. Flutter-by is a duotone that I am excited to try. I didn't get many of the HiTC samples, but of the ones I did, I feel that they are bright and airy while Les Papillons are more pigmented and seem richer and more opaque.

I think that Spread your WIngs is a deeper orange than Tigrilla, but I have not put them side-by-side to tell for sure. It feels a bit like Velvetgoldmine… so I will have to swatch them to compare, Tally.

I will be having much fun with this collection, and I am already. Wheee!

  20. Phyrra September 17, 2009 at 11:11 am #

    Hi Melissa!
I'm wearing Spread Your Wings and Dormant Dreams today, with a little bit of Air & Light, Flutter-by and Soul Takes Flight.
I like Spread Your Wings much better than Tigrilla, because it is deeper, but it's not too warm for me, like VelvetGoldMine is. Soul Takes Flight is similar to Elegie.

I agree that I feel like the Les Papillons are more opaque, as well.

  21. Starlight September 17, 2009 at 1:10 pm #

So what shadows are you wearing in the video? I like that look,it's really pretty on you,PHyrra.

Thanks for the video swatches. Some of these shades are not what I expected, but in a good way.LOL! Especially Crimson Mimicry. I can't wear red eyeshadow, but this has a look that's wearable.

  22. Phyrra September 17, 2009 at 1:27 pm #

    Hi Starlight,
I think I was wearing one of the Meow looks I did for the new Meow collection.

I'm really happy with the Les Papillons so far, especially after wearing them. You HAVE to try Air & Light. It's got this awesome lustre to it.
