Sephora’s & Sally’s

I went to Sephora today, and was surprised by a few things. First off, the Sephora I went to is in a JC Penny’s, at the WireGrass mall. Second, the staff was very nice, not pushy, not condescending, and not rude. Sometimes in the past when I’ve gone to Sephora, they’ve been a bit snotty. This was not the case for me today. They were genuinely nice and helpful. Yay! Second, the ladies who helped me told me that they were having a Friends & Family sale, so everything was 20% off. Additionally I had my VIP coupon for $15 off if I purchased $35 or more in product. So I ended up spending $29 after the 20% off & $15 off. Really not bad at all!

I asked for help in matching my eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil, and we ended up trying what I thought we would try (since I’d perused Sephora’s website last night) Lorac’s Auburn eyebrow pencil. The Lorac Creamy Brow Pencil comes in Blonde (taupe), Brunette (medium brown), Dark Brown (deep brown) and Auburn (reddish brown). I tried the browns and they looked too ashy on me. I tried Auburn, and it seemed to look the best.

Yes, I need to get my eyebrows waxed soon. And it’s almost time to get my underarms waxed as well. Hopefully, I’ll be brave and go for a brazilian too!

I also picked up Anastasia’s classic stencil kit.

It comes with 5 stencils:
Petite Arch- Recommended for small facial features.
Slim High Arch- Recommended for brows in training, growth challenged, thin or sparse brows.
Medium Arch- Recommended for brows with a softer arch that naturally creates less space between the bottom of the brow and the top of the eye.
High Arch- Recommended for brows with a higher arch that naturally creates more space between the bottom of the brow and the top of the eye.
Full Arch – Recommended for the fullest shape and larger facial features.

My brows are so petite that even the Petite Arch is a bit big, I think. But I’ll try playing with it more. I used it as a bit of a guide with my Lorac Auburn in the picture above. The nice thing about these stencils are that they do mold themselves around you to fit to your arch.

I also snagged a Sephora #15 brush.

I went by Sally’s Beauty Supply and picked up some things from there as well. I always have hair dye and developer stockpiled at my house, I swear.

I picked up an eye lash separator and brow brush. I’ve been looking for one for a while that has the metal teeth to separate lashes and keep them from clumping. I just find that my plastic ones don’t work so well.

I picked up 2 containers of Manic Panic Purple Haze and 1 of Hot Hot Pink. I also picked up some 40 developer (I have 10, 20, and 30 at home), and a box of Splat Pink Fetish. I already have a Beyond the Zone Bleach kit here.

I’d really like to work up the courage to strip the turqouise out of my hair and replace it with pink, but we’ll see if I can do that myself or not. My purple really needs to be touched up, but every time I go to Ulta, they’re  out of Punky Plum.

I grabbed all three shades from Orly’s Metal Chic Metallic Matte collection.
Iron Butterfly, Glam Rock, and Solid Gold.
You can see some beautiful photos over at Polish Mayhem.

Ray really likes how Iron Butterfly looks. Surprisingly I’m very much pulled towards Glam Rock.
You can see how gorgeous Glam Rock looks with a shiny topcoat over at Body & Soul.

Yay! I'm happy to see I'm not the only one always stocked up with hair dye! I usually buy them if they are on sale knowing I'll need it eventually anyways

I know what you mean about Sephora! I used to live in Fort Lauderdale, and whenever I'd go to Sephora at the local malls (or any makeup counter, for that matter), people would always be so rude– the only attention I seemed to get was if one of the store clerks thought I was shoplifting! I'm now living in the mountains of NE GA, and visited the Sephora in the Mall of Georgia a few days ago. QUITE a difference. I was mostly just browsing (ended up picking up the "dark room" nailpolish) but people kept coming up to me and asking if I needed help. Attitude makes all the difference in the world–I will *not* shop at a place where I'm treated like crap. I was pleasantly surprised this particular trip, and will probably shop there again.

Have you used the "Splat" brand box dyes before? A friend of mine used the red one and it came out very badly over dark hair that's been processed a few times. It was an awful dull color with no shine, and just really seemed to emphasize how processed her hair really was. I'd be interested to know if it works out and whether you did anything different than she did to achieve a better look.

    Hi Axs,
Yep, I'm always one to stock up on dye, in case I get a 'wild hare' urge to dye OMG RIGHT NAO!

    Hi Ewe,
Yeah the Sephora at International Mall can have snotty people or nice people, but thankfully the one out in Wesley Chapel at Wiregrass is full of very nice people. I'm like you, if they treat me like crap, I don't go back. I'll shop online, or forgoe until I find an alternative.

    Hi Kat,
I've not tried it before, but I read a review about it at Rebellious makeup: http://rebelliousmakeup.blogspot.com/2009/11/rebellious-colors-splat-review.html

I'm not sure if I'll use it or not, but I have other stuff here. I have a Beyond the zone bleach kit, other bottles of developer, as well as the Manic Panic dye that I have.

The reason I'm nervous about doing it on my own is that I think my hair looks really nice right now, and I'm nervous that if I bleach the teal, I'll end up frying that part of my hair, so I'm doing more research and asking a colorist friend of mine for help. I'll probably just pay her to do my hair :P I hate bleach. I'm great at touching up with bleach and then adding dye to fix my hair/touch up the color.

Ummmm…..Hello you have a friend that is a Master Colorist!!! *points at self*
No bleach no no no! Go back to Sally and get the Clairol Liquid Un color for semi/demi color. It removes non permenanat color and it will not damage your hair or leave you orange. Then you can touch up your new growth and recolor right away.
P.S. Please stop getting the BTZ Bleach kit it's a total rip off. Get a packet of Prism lites blue and use your Ion developer. Much better price wise and you won't have brassyness.

    Hi EA,
    I didn't know!
Just sent you an email ;)

Go for the Brazilian. I'm a fan of the 'full'. Worth it.

    And there you go, TMI.

  8. Phyrra December 6, 2009 at 8:35 pm #

    Hi Gothique,
    Hehe!
I am amazed over the fact that after getting my underarms waxed ONCE, that coarse hair grew back a lot thinner. I'm getting it done again soon, so I figure I need to suck it up and go get the Brazilian too.

I haven't dyed my hair an "unnatural" color in probably 4 years now and I STILL Have manic panic in my medicine cabinet. I think it comforts me to know that it's there. Mine is Vampire Red.

oh how I miss those days.

  10. Phyrra December 6, 2009 at 10:26 pm #

    Hi Papaya Bunny,
I have some Vampire Red in my stock :)

  11. Heather / Eyeconic December 6, 2009 at 11:15 pm #

I haven't dyed my hair since I was 13, I really want to do purple tips. I loooove your hair, all the colors I see in your profile picture are similar to the ones I looked at today when I was trying to decide my tip color. :)

Sephora worked out a partnership with Penney's about 2 1/2 years ago, where they would start setting up little mini-stores – I was working for Penney's at the time they made the deal. However, I don't think there are any Penney-Sephoras near me, otherwise I would try them. My local Sephora (which happens to be the store at the Mall of America) has given me consistently crap service ever since they moved into the mall.

The only time I've had a problem with Sephora is when I met the manager and tried to apply for a job. She was so…ugh.

And yay! Hair color. :D I have all a huge collection, too! I think like two of them have enough for me to do a big chunk in my hair and that's it, haha, but still. :)

  14. Phyrra December 7, 2009 at 10:24 am #

    Hi Heather,
    I dye my hair a lot ;)
What tip color did you go with?

    Hi Shattered,
    I didn't know that!
This is the first one I've ever seen.

    Hi Julissa,
I've got all kinds of jars that are between half full and mostly full.
Not good that you didn't like the manager.

I totally agree that you sure can get some SAs with attitude at Sephora. The nicest SAs were the ones at the Sephora in Reno. Super helpful, but didn't bother me too much by constantly asking if I needed help.
You got an awesome deal at Sephora. Gotta love discounts on top of discounts!

  16. Phyrra December 8, 2009 at 11:08 am #

    Hi Junerose,
It certainly made me happy to get such a great deal! I don't mind if someone asks me if I need help as long as they don't continuously hover.

i actually have a package for full BWs but i'm lazy to make my appointments. not going to lie, it really does hurt, but i really do not like to have hair caught up in squishy places cos they hurt! lol. i'm also addicted to hair removal. i'm itching to help pluck your brows. LOL! i don't wax the underarm though, i go for IPL.

  18. Phyrra December 11, 2009 at 11:32 am #

    Hi Suzieduck,
    What is IPL?
And I have to say, I LOVE having my underarms waxed :)

  19. suzieduck December 11, 2009 at 11:41 am #

Intense Pulse Light. it's kinda like laser hair removal. it's suppose to make your hair grow finer and finally disappear all together. but i have relapses because of my lovely thick asian hair. LOL.

  20. Phyrra December 11, 2009 at 1:45 pm #

    Hi Suzieduck,
I'll have to look into it! I also need to learn more about laser hair removal, too.
