Stars Makeup Haven

A while back I placed an order with Stars Makeup Haven because I was curious about their products. Their single eye shadows are $4.95 each.

I ordered:
Euphoria – a nearly matte fuchsia
Ciao Bella! – stone with a satin finish
Creme d’ Nude – a matte flesh

SMH sent some extras in my package, an angled eye shadow brush and a bottle of Smashbox brush cleanser. They apparently took longer than usual to get their orders out, but I didn’t mind. I did make a suggestion to them that they add a ‘Processing’ stage to their order status, which they did right away. That really impressed me.

The top line swatches were done on Too Faced Shadow Insurance. The dot swatches were done on UDPP Eden.

I picked Creme d’ Nude because it looked like it would be a good lid or highlighter shade on me. I picked Ciao Bella! because it looked like it would work as a lid or crease shade. I picked Euphoria because of the color and the name. Euphoria really reminds me of Morgana Azalea Blue Lipstick / MAC Show Orchid Lipstick.

I felt like the shadows were quite pigmented when I swatched them, and applied easily on the bases I used. I’m looking forward to giving them a try.

What do you think of Stars Makeup Haven? Are there any ‘must have’ colors that you adore? Other colors I’m curious about are Call A Treuce, Plum Crazy, Calypso, Dominatrix and V.I.P. Pink.

They look nice…I have never heard of them…I would like to know how well they stay on…

    • Thia Winter

Creme D'Nude does look like a good highlighter for sure (But it brings to mind my Creme D'Nude MAC lipstick LOL) and Euphoria is LOVELY…..Nice haul!!!

    • Brittany

I love the hell out of Creme D'Nude, I bought it back in February and I use it daily, I have a nice sized dip in it. Great for toning down certain colours or blending edges.

    • Phyrra

Yep, I totally thought of the MAC lipstick with its name!

    • Phyrra

Yay glad you love it! Are there any other SMH colors you love?

    • Phyrra

I'll be wearing them soon :)

    • Tally7

Love them! I have many recommendations. Which colors are you particularly interested in? Of course, I can tell you my favorite purples, but any other colors in particular?

    • Phyrra

Hm, I'm most interested in what you think the most outstanding/special colors are, that are unlike anything else you have?

    • cinseven13

The Creme d'Nude looks good (since I've been on a brown/neutral kick). Phyrra, you're NOT helping my resolve to buy less makeup!!!

    • Brittany

I only have 3, including Creme D'Nude. I also bought Bohemia and Cashmere, which are both really lovely colours, but are kinda hard to work with. Cashmere is VERY soft, and shatters easily if you drop it, but very pigmented. It's a red brown shade so it may not be your cup of tea. Bohemia is also beautiful but you have to build it up a little to get it to full opacity, it's a nice bronzey coppery shadow.

    • BLIX

I love SMH! Dominatrix, Wine Not?, Plum Crazy, Ultra Violet, Teal Tuesday, Foxy, Fantasy, Pink Opal, Hot Ginge, Shimmerbrick, 1492, Walkin' After Midnight, Fresh and Olive Branch are my fav! I use Unzipped (matte black) as a powder eyeliner all the time and it's awesome. They came out with some new colours a couple months ago…I've been so tempted to place an order, but I'm too busy to play with new stuff right now. :-( Maybe I'll wait until I'm not so busy.

    • Tally7

Gotcha! ;) Will respond tomorrow or Friday. I own all of them except the last 10 or so that were newly released, but those didn't seem so hot (except one, which I snagged). Sorry, to late to list now…. But in the purples, when I saw the shade Fifi, I thought you'd be interested in it. It has a pinky-purple base with blue sheen. Promise I'll get on to it tomorrow or Friday!

    • Tally7

And yes, “unlike what I have” is a good question. Considering my stash, I think I am qualified to answer that question :D. I bought these palettes (which btw are cheaper per eyeshadow, like around $3 a think, if you get them in a palette, I think you should mention that) mainly to have all the basic colors. But I'll see what is unique there. Like I said, Fifi stands out, and there are some neat silvers, greys, and blues in there.

    • Phyrra

Hmm, do you know how close Fifi is to Urban Decay Asphyxia / Evil Shades Suffocation / Silk Naturals Breathe? I looked at a swatch of Fifi on Karla Sugar and the swatch looks very similar to those colors. I think that shade is very pretty, but I have it in both Urban Decay and Evil Shades. It's definitely a unique type of color and the sort of color I'm looking for :) Thank you for suggesting it!

    • Phyrra

Dominatrix looks fantastic! I was curious about Plum Crazy, Ultra Violet, Teal Tuesday, too. I need to go look through your looks to see your favorite colors on you ;)

    • Phyrra

Aww! At least I didn't haul a bunch of purples? That helps, right?

    • Phyrra

Sounds cool :) I've just got so much makeup at this point that I'm trying to make sure that I don't end up with colors that are almost the same :)

    • Mika_chan

Wow how crazy, I'm actually waiting on an order from SMH myself. I only ordered Paramour. It looks like a dupe for MAC's Parfait Amour, so I wanted to see. SMH has so many pretty colors that I want though. If I like the one I get, I'll just be finishing out my mac palettes with SMH. Plus, the swatches look so great over at KarlaSugar

    • jackieg02

I'm very interested in getting some eyeshadows from SMH, but I have always put it off. I just need to go ahead and order a couple!

    • Tally7

LOLS I don't know exactly how similar it is to the other three, but I thought you'd like it b.c. you liked UD Asphyxia. However, I didn't know you had dupes in MMU and knew UD quality wasn't that good. However, if you have three colors like that, then def, don't buy. I do have some awesome silvery colors to recommend, though, and I'll see what else I can come up with :).

    • Silhouettex

Euphoria looks great :) and I've always wanted to get Creme d'nude because it looked like the perfect matte highlighter

    • Kelsey

I've never tried them but I'm wondering if they're similar quality to Coastal Scents hot pots

    • Casey

Thank you for this review & the swatches! I've always wanted to place an order, but I never knew what colors to get because of the huge selection. I might go ahead and place an order now, I would always make a palette and get so close to checking out, then forget about it. :) -Casey

    • Phyrra

I'm wearing all 3 colors today and WOW do I love them. The texture and pigmentation is really nice and they're easy to work with, which surprised me. I always expect mattes = hard.

    • Phyrra

Sounds great :) And yeah I bought the mineral makeup dupes because they're better color payoff.

    • Phyrra

Oooh I hope it's lovely for you! I have Parfait Amour from MAC and I remember it being pretty but hard to get good color payoff. Yeah I was looking at the Karla Sugar swatches, they're amazing!

    • Phyrra

Which colors are you wanting to snag?

    • Phyrra

      It's really nice!

    • Phyrra

You know, I'm not sure. I looked at the Hot Pots after you posted this and to me they look different, but I think I'll have to do more research to find out for sure.

    • Phyrra

If you're looking for more swatches, Karla Sugar has about all of them swatched here: http://karlasugar.net/category/swatches/brand-swa

    • Brittany

Same! They're so silky and smooth. :D

    • Tally7

VERY LONG POST: The colors with a * are the most unique ones that I recommend the most The nudes: *metro: metallic greenish-brownish grey, applies smoothly smoke and mirrors: possibly interesting, almost metallic grey verging on black *sinsational: midtone to highlight peachy with a hint of beige, almost nude colored pearl (reminds me of AL Butterscotch, winter 2008 LE) cr

    • Tally7

The orange/reds: hot ginger: metallic burnt orange (could be an exact dupe for AL pyro, though, if you have that) *light my fire: slight pearl pinky/orangey red flare for the dramatic: matte pinky/purpley red *Euphoria: which you already have, you are right, the resemblance to Azalea Blue is uncanny VIP pink: warmish midtone pink with a violet sheen that makes it usually appear cool toned *Pink Opal: very light beige base (lighter than Cr

    • Tally7

Blues/greens/yellows: *Glam: Cinderella blue, slight pearl finish, mostly matte *1492: blue with a touch of purple, same vivid finish as Ultra Violet, base color is blurple, sheen is blue *Rush Hour: very highlight odd (in a good way) color, pearl colored with a touch of green, pearl finish Teal Tuesday: matte, the color of whatever material makes up the floor of tennis coarts Scandalous: very dark blue green, slight satin finish Dress Blues: metallic blue-grey Over the Moon: metallic orangey gold Olive Branch: metallic olive *Peachy Keen: pearly mango color Fireflies: shiny yellow with a hint of green

    • Tally7

Of the ones you said you were interested in, but I didn’t mention, Calypso is a muted periwinkle purple, Call a Treuce is not very vibrant chartreuse, but you already have Fyrinnae colors like this, and probably more vibrant.

    • Tally7

      meant “very odd highlight”

    • Phyrra

Thanks for your suggestions! The ones I think that sound really cool are: Smoke & Mirrors ViPink Pink Opal Dominatrix Wine Not Plum Crazy Glam Scandalous Dress Blues Olive Branch

    • Tally7

Glad to help :) Maybe those suggestions will help others too who have way too many colors already ;) I would still really recommend metro and rush hour as never seen before colors, but they might not work with your coloring. I am so glad to have found this brand! Changed my view of pressed shadow quality like you said.

    • Tally7

      Nice choices, btw :D.

    • Tally7

Sorry about posting the extra links, I didn't realize that you had linked to the main page where people could see that they could buy the shadows as palettes or buy unfilled palettes themselves. For me, at first I didn't want to buy the shadows as I didn't know where I could find an unfilled palette to put the shadows in. Also, I do think you should mention in your review that the shadows are cheaper if bought in a palette, b.c. for me, I still probably wouldn't have bought these at $5 a pop unless I realized I could get them cheaper in a palette.

    • Phyrra

When I do a full review of SMH I'll mention the palettes. I personally didn't want to buy their palette because I have my unii palettes that I really adore.

    • Tally7

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about those. So, they hold the SMH shadows? That would be cool for traveling.

    • Phyrra

Yeah they work with my MAC and the SMH. Probably anything else that you could stick in there ;)

    • Jayna

I had a bad experience with SMH. I ordered 2 28 empty palettes w/pans, 1 12 pan empty palette with pans and 100 magnets. They were packaged in 1 flat rate 3.95 USPS envelop with reinforced tape etc. When it arrived, the side was ripped out and half the contents were gone. I only had the two 28 pan palettes left (and they were wrong (missing pans). The USPS had stamped that is arrived opened etc. i took pics of this sent the to SMH, etc. NOREPLY. Of course they have no customer service phone numbers!! I am out $35 half my order. I will NEVER order from them again!! Their website leaves no place to leave a real review! I guess they are good if your sales goes well… just hope you have no issues!
      Jayna

      • Phyrra

Ack! That’s awful! I stopped ordering from SMH because of how long it took them to ship. It has been much better to just order from All Cosmetics Wholesale. Same products, better shipping costs, better customer service, and faster shipping.

    • Jayna

Sorry that post meant to say NO REINFORECED TAPE on the package.. that is important!

    • cassi

Hey guys, I just placed an order from SMH for a 15 single eyeshadow+the pan. i noticed you mentioned the “processing” duration is long. i wonder how long did you wait? mine has been a week and it is still “processing” :( thx

      • Phyrra

Mine took several weeks, which is why i just started ordering from All Cosmetics Wholesale instead.

    • Cassi

Wow.. Thats crazy. Seriously i wouldnt mind waiting this long since their eyeshadow is so cheap. Only $60 for 15colors n the case. But they just never replied my email which made me feel like being scammed. Well im still waiting. Hopefully will rec my order in a month. Thanks!

      • Phyrra

You can get your order faster from All Cosmetics Wholesale. Since I realized that, I’ve not bothered with Stars Makeup Haven.

    • Danielle F

I wish I would have seen this post before placing my order two weeks ago and it is STILL in processing. Their paypal phone number is a fake so I can’t call them and I tried emailing them three times to which they never responded. I luckily paid with Paypal and have opened a dispute and am filing a claim against them to get my money back. I will NEVER order from them again. I don’t know if I even want to order from All Cosmetics Wholesale knowing that it benefits SMH in the end. I buy a lot of my makeup online through sephora, amazon, mac and others and never have any problems. This is by far my worst experience ever!!!

    • Courtney McFall

I have had the same awful experience with them and have been waiting 3 weeks. I have sent numerous emails etc to no avail. I have filed with PayPal for a refund, as I would rather support MAC than them.

      • Phyrra

I’ve stopped purchasing from them directly and purchased through AllCosmeticsWholesale since they treat their customers better.

Sorry you had a bad experience too.

    • aRi

I ordered four emtpy blush palettes over a month ago on 10/29/2010 and they were never delivered. My money was taken out of my bank almost immediately, but my order still says processing on their site. I have sent four emails to try to find out what’s going on, but no response. I started a complaint with paypal on 11/29/2010, but a week later my order still says processing. This is not my first time ordering from them. Earlier this year in April I ordered two empty 28 pan eyeshadow palettes, which fit my mac eyeshadows perfectly, but got them after two weeks. SMH made up for the delay by including a free eyeshadow and explaining on the invoice that they were short staffed because some people went back to school, blah blah blah. I also noticed around that time on their twitter that they were going to hire or hired new staff. I recently checked their twitter again and they have no problem tweeting constantly, but apparently have a problem with responding to their customers’ emails!!!!! I escalated my complaint with paypal, so now I just need to wait and see if anything changes! I will never order from SMH again!!!
