Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy – A Holy Grail Product for Me

I’ve loved Fyrinnae’s Pixie Epoxy from the moment I got my paws on it. It is one of my few Holy Grail items. I know I’ve mentioned it a few times before when talking about Fyrinnae. Since I’ve had a lot of email questions about it, I thought this review – complete with questions answered – was long overdue.

What is it?
It’s a fantastic mixing medium. It basically makes shadows appear foiled, lets them keep all their glitter and sparkle in place and minimizes fall out. It lets you create  foiled look without the mess of foiling.

How do you use it?
You want to use an eye shadow primer or base as normal before you apply Pixie Epoxy. Then you apply a tiny amount of the Pixie Epoxy to your lid and even it out with your finger. You wait a bit for it to get tacky to the touch, and then you can apply your eye shadows. If it looks patchy, apply a bit more of the Pixie Epoxy, and then apply more shadow.

I used to wait like 45 seconds before applying shadow. These days I apply it to one eye, spread it around with my finger to get a thin, even layer, and then apply my shadow. Then I do the next eye.

Can you use it with any eye shadow?
You can use it with loose shadows or pressed shadows, but it doesn’t usually work very well with mattes. Click here to see what it looks like when used with some shadows that are loose, pressed, shimmery, and matte.

Is it vegan?
Yep, it’s made by Fyrinnae. It’s vegan.

Is it LE?
No, it’s not limited edition.  It’s part of Fyrinnae’s permanent collection. This means it’s not going away any time soon. I believe it’s one of the best selling products at Fyrinnae. You can also read about Fyrinnae’s upcoming collections and other cool things over here.

What does it claim to do?
It claims to make shadows appear foiled without foiling it.

Does it live up to its claim?
OMFG Yes! That’s why it’s a HOLY GRAIL product for me! It is seriously amazing!

Would you purchase it again?
I already have! <3

When I first purchased it, it came in a slightly smaller size. I’ve had my first tube since probably Sept. 2009. It’s now almost June and I’ve got about 1/3 to 1/2 of the tube left. I’ve since purchased the new size, because quite frankly, I don’t want to run out! The full size now costs $7 and is larger than the original. It’s totally worth it. It’s a steal at that price.

Pixie Epoxy doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes. I love the effect it has on shadows. I’ve been able to create some really lovely looks with it. And I’m so happy that I no longer have to foil. I always found foiling difficult to do, and really difficult for me to blend once I foil, so this really is an amazing product for me.

How about you? Have you tried Fyrinnae’s Pixie Epoxy? If so, what did you think of it?

I have been meaning to get Pixie Epoxy for awhile now, it sounds really cool. Thank you for reminding me of it – I just got a job today that has horrid hours and was kind of bummed cause I can't afford not to take the job, but now I'm focused on the fact that I'll be able to make a Fyrinnae order as soon as I get my first check!

    • Hoyden

I've got a Fyrinnae order in the works. I NEED Puppy Love!! Do you know if you can order more than one sample of Pixie Epoxy? I want to order a couple for the June Sparkle bags I'm putting together to take to the Woman's Shelter.

    • Phyrra

I _think_ you can, but when in doubt, email the lovely guys at Fyrinnae. They respond reasonably fast :)

    • Phyrra

Yay I'm glad you'll be able to place an order! I'm so sorry about the bad hours though.

    • Angela

I LOVE THIS! haha its also my own holy grail product. I used to foil most of my shadows and its such a mess, this makes it simple and a lot easier to do =D

    • Leelas

Oh god yes, I love PE. Even if it cost a lot more, I'd still buy it. it seems to disappear a lot slower than my other primers/bases, and even when using it alone, it gives excellent hold. I didn't realize the glory of it until I tried PE with my older eyeshadows; it just made them pop so much that it blew my mind.

    • Jade

Got it, love it :) I wish I'd had the chance to try their eyeshadow primer before they took it down, though.

    • Runaround Sous

I love Pixie Epoxy… thanks to your review, I picked it up. Thanks so much! It really makes a difference with the foiling.

    • Julissa

I loveeee PE! :) It's fabulous! That's why I got a tube for my contest! It's just too awesome not to share with everyone. :D

    • Kristen

I love Pixie Epoxy! I have these big googly eyes that crease really easily and the only thing that works for me is PE and MAC's paints (which aren't great for holding glitter!). The only thing is that when I remove it it makes my eyelids quite red – no irritation or anything, so since it's an amazing product, I'll live with it!

    • @WitchWords

Eh, at least I *have* a job. Lots of people aren't that fortunate, right now. I totally blame you for the fact that I'm going to have to set a strict beauty budget for myself, btw. Before I started reading your blog, I wouldn't have known all the kinds of awesome makeup that are out there waiting for me to spend my money! ;-)

    • nkaneko

Pixie Epoxy is an amazingly wonderful product! I only need a tiny bit and it makes my eyeshadow look vibrant and sparkly without fallout or the hassle of foiling. I also love that it, and all of Fyrinnae's products are vegan. Aside from the PE and the gorgeous shadows and lip lustres, the Velvet-Gel Silica Primer is also a must-have for me.

    • Ellie

One of the only products I've bought online straight up without worrying about getting a sample first. <3

    • Mika_chan

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! I'll admit that at first I was stupid and was applying WAY too much. I was also using it for swatch pictures. I need to hurry up and order another tube. Like you, I don't ever want to run out.

    • TeresaB

Phyrra, You're really not going to stop until you make me buy this, are you?! ;o)

    • BLIX

I love PE too! I wish it came out sooner! Not sure how I managed some looks without it.

    • RaeRae

Ooooh oooh oooh a little trick with Pixie Epoxy I like to do… If I'm using all matte shadows on the lid but I want shiney shiney liner, I do all my matte shadows over normal primer, and then take PEon a liner brush and line my eyes with it… It takes some of the matte shadow off but that actually helps to see where it is so that's all good. Then you can take the shiney shiney shadow and line over the PE! It looks gorgeous…

    • gatorgirl4325

I bought PE after I read one of your posts proclaiming it's awesomeness. It took me a while to get the application down (I was using TOO much!) but now I see why you love it so much!!

    • Beautysbadhabit

Is there much of a difference between using actual mixing medium and using pixie epoxy? Though, already I'm drawn to it if you can just apply it straight to the lid without mixing in jar lids etc. Thanks for the insight!

    • Kerry

Love this product and use it on a daily basis. If any of y'all don't have it, get it! No mixing necessary. I put on my UDPP, put a small dot of PE on each lid.. use my finger and spread it out over my lid and just into my crease.. wait about 45 seconds to a minute.. and apply my shadows. It's definitely a must have for every makeup lover's beauty bag. :)

    • Thia Winter

HG For me too!!! LOVE it! I can't use a lot of it, if I do I get a lot of creasing, but I've figured out that if I apply just a teensie dot with a brush then use my finger to blend it I don't get any creasing at all! :D

    • Kathryn

what is foiling eyeshadow? Sorry I don't know, I am a makeup newbie!

    • Nic

Thanks for the review! Everyone always raves about the PE but I could never seem to find an in-depth “this is why it's so great, this is how you use it, etc, etc.” I've been eyeing their arcane magic shadows, I'll have to pick some of this up with them when I do.

    • gothchiq

On those rare occasions I foil, I do it with MAC Fix +. Does work on mattes. So when you do mattes, try that?

    • Phyrra

      LOL!

    • Phyrra

Yeah it really does. I hated foiling just because of the mess involved with it.

    • Phyrra

I've never tried using it alone, since I have oily lids. And yay! yeah, it really does make super sparkly colors look AMAZING.

    • Phyrra

Ahh, I never tried it, either.

    • @whimsybeading

You will only pry my Pixie Epoxy from my cold, dead hands. I love the stuff more than can possibly be good for me.

    • Phyrra

      Yay, glad to hear it!

    • Phyrra

      I totally agree with you!

    • Phyrra

Glad it works for you :)

    • Phyrra

      I really love that too!

    • Phyrra

      Hehe, yeah it's fantastic!

    • Phyrra

I've used it for swatch pix, and one thing I noticed is that it's hard to apply shadow with a cotton swab over PE, which is how I normally swatch. But it's soooo pretty!

    • Phyrra

      Hehe!

    • Phyrra

      I know!

    • Phyrra

Yeah it's really hard to get it right at first. I tend to put a tiny amount on my finger tip and spread it around with that.

    • Phyrra

It's so much better than water. Water is messy. You just apply PE to your finger, spread on your like that, and then put the shadow on.

    • Phyrra

      Exactly! That's how I do it :)

    • Phyrra

      Nice!

    • Phyrra

Hehe! It's ok :) Foiling is where you mix an eye shadow with water to make it more vibrant. It can be messy to do, which is why I never really liked doing it very much, even though I liked the results. The Pixie Epoxy lets you have vibrancy without the mess.

    • Phyrra

You're quite welcome! If you have any other questions let me know! I was trying to cover everything I could think of that I've been asked.

    • Phyrra

I've never tried MAC Fix + but I know people love it. I don't tend to foil with mattes, but I have used the PE with mattes with varying degrees of success.

    • Phyrra

Heheh! I'm glad you love it!

    • spooki

i don't use mattes very often but i've never had any issues using them on PE. if you let the PE sit just a teeny bit longer mattes will blend evenly. i hated PE when i first got it because you really need to let it sit or you wind up with wads of gummed up eyeshadow all over your face. i love it now though and use it daily. one thing that annoys the crap out of me though: getting it out of the tube! idk what is wrong with mine but half of it is stuck to the very bottom of the tube and the other half is stuck to the top of the tube. in the middle where the doe foot sits there is nothing. i'm afraid i won't ever be able to get the last of it out.

    • Phyrra

Hmm, maybe email Fyrinnae and see what they suggest if that happens?

    • Anna

I just made my first Fyrinnae order a few days ago & threw in a full size PE because I've heard all the amazing reviews (and it pushed me over to free shipping, haha). Your review/explanation really helped and I can't wait to try it when it comes!

    • Phyrra

Yay I hope you love it :)

It’s hard to place an order through their site. Every time I do, I fill up the cart and enter my info. I get to the page to proceed to paypal or enter a credit card and I get the message that it is disabled at this time. It’s going on a month & 1/2 trying to order. I’m dyin’…

      • Phyrra

Trust me, it’s worth the wait, though I think they’re not taking new orders for a bit.

Ahhh, I finally got to order it!!! I’m excited, even if I have to wait 20 days for my order to process.. I got a few shadow samples, blush, bronzer and Indies lip colour…

      • Phyrra

Yay! I hope you love it as much as I do :)
