A Joey Named Roo – A Review

A while back I ordered from A Joey Named Roo, an Etsy store ran by sisters Rachel and Sarah.

I ordered:
Raspberry Lemonade vegan lip balm
Rich Chocolate Confections exfoliating lip scrub
Lemon Meringue Pie vegan whipped body butter

I received several free samples, including some blueberry soap, which smells divine! I love blueberries! I always say this, but I’m happy whenever shops send out freebies and they’re not lavender! I hate lavender!

The sisters do lovely packaging.

Here’s what the whipped body butter and lip scrub look like when opened:

The chocolate exfolating lip scrub was divine! It worked wonderfully. It apparently smelled so good that Phaedra even stole it and tried to eat it (eek!). I really love using lip scrubs to keep my lips smooth for lip products.

The body butter was wonderful and moisturizing, though I didn’t care for the lemon meringue pie scent.

The raspberry lemonade vegan lipbalm is amazing and I love it. It smells so yummy. It moisturizes well and keeps my lips quite kissable.

The soap sample was nice, even if I don’t like bar soap.

The pricing is as follows:
$4.50 for lip scrub
$3.50 for 2 oz of body butter
$2.00 for lip balm.

Shipping was a total of $4, which wasn’t too bad over all. I tend to get cranky when shipping is more than $5.

Would I purchase from A Joey Named Roo again?
Yes! I really liked how moisturizing their products were, and the prices were quite reasonable. I feel like the ingredients used were high quality, and I do believe that they use fair trade ingredients in their products.

Have you tried A Joey Named Roo? Let me know if you do!

I haven’t but I think I will need to try the lip scrub! Yum! I have a lip scrub from mary K but a chocolate scrub would be better!

I’ve been using their products for a while now, and I have to say that I really like the lemon meringue pie body butter. The texture is lovely and the scent is nice and lemony, not sugar-sweet with a faint ghost of lemon like so many other supposedly lemon-scented things!

Ahh, I think it must just be a preference with lemons. I do like my lemon scents to be a bit sweet.

A Joey Named Roos lip balms are great quality, moisturizing and I like the slight glossy finish I strongly recommend Strawberry champagne.
They sent me a sample of birthday cake body butter and it was lovely too, this blog was a reminder to order a full size so thank you Phyrra :)

I got a couple of orders from them, but I never did review them. I ended up getting a full size of something they sent as a sample and it was completely different, I was a little disappointed.

Aww, did you contact them about it?

I ordered from them after seeing your review here – I ordered their Fight Club hand creme, the Take Your Vitamins under-eye moisturizer, and a sample of their whipped body butter in Banana Cream Pie.

Fight Club is unusually thick – almost waxy hard, like a warm crayon – I can just scrape my fingers across the top and get hardly any, but it’s more than enough. I love how nice it is to my cuticles, but I really dislike the heavy residue on my hands. Then again, I tend to wash my hands frequently, so I may be a bit of a nut when it comes to hand creams. I used it on my heels today to see if it helps with the dry skin on my feet. The lavender vanilla scent is so soothing, though, that I’m keeping it at my desk for work.

The body butter is a mildly sweet, banana pudding scent, but very lightly scented, which I appreciate – some lotions are so highly scented I feel like I just took a nose-dive through Macy’s perfume counters.

The eye cream is nice, though I can’t say for certain how it works because I’ve only just started using it. I have lizard-skin undereyes that look scaly and wrinkly and are very, very dark to the point of bruised. The peppermint oil in the cream is pleasant, though – refreshing and soothing, and it really is VERY hydrating. I’ve been applying AM and PM lightly, and while the area looks no less sunken or bruised, the wrinkling and redness has faded noticeably. (And work has been awful enough that that’s no mean feat considering the crying jags I’ve had at night and in my car at lunch!)

I also received a sample of their intoxicating flowers lip balm (florals aren’t my thing so I’ll have to pass that on to someone else) and their blueberry soap, which I also haven’t tried yet but plan to. :)

It sounds like the body butter is yummy. You may want to email them and ask if Fight Club is supposed to be so thick?

      • Bronwyn August 29, 2010 at 4:18 pm #

I suspect it is supposed to be like that – the label even says “ridiculously thick” as a descriptor. :) I guess I’m used to taking most marketing with a grain of salt!

All of it is lovely stuff – I’m looking at the lip scrub as something to try next time. Is it difficult or messy to use, or just a fingertipful-and-rub-on-for-a-bit sort of thing? I’ve never tried a lip scrub before.

        :)

I do a fingertip while in the shower, rub it on my lips, then rinse.
