Sunday I finally felt like I FINALLY had the energy to change my hair from pink and wine to turquoise and midnight blue.

Here’s how I did it.
1. I used One n’ Only Color Fix.
This had an unpredictable (for me) result. In the past, I’ve used it and taken out color no problem. This time, it took out all the pink and instead of leaving me with the pre-lightened hair, it turned dark purple. I decided I could work with this, since I wanted violet tones anyways.
After looking at my hair history, I’ve put Manic Panic, Jerome Russel Punky Color, and Pravana Colorsilk Vivids on this hair. It’s possible something in the Pravana caused this sort of reaction.
I forgot to pick up a clarifying shampoo, and if I were to do it again, I would have used a clarifying shampoo a day or two before doing the color fix.
2. Next I used L’Oreal EverPure Moisture Shampoo – Rosemary Juniper. I don’t like the scent of this. I like the Rosemary Mint scent of my EverPure Conditioner better. This is a sulfate free shampoo and it is vegan. It works very well on color treated hair. I really like it.
3. I then mixed Kaleidocolors Violet Lightener powder with Ion Sensitive Scalp 10 volume creme developer. I put the bleach on the front portion of my hair (which had turned dark and purple if you recall) and I left it on for 10 minutes, watching my hair very carefully. Again, in hindsight, I probably could have used the Ion Sensitive scalp 20 developer, but I went with 10 since I was using it on hair that had already been bleached. I also could have left the developer on for another 5 minutes, but I was erring on the side of caution, so I rinsed it out at the 10 minute mark. I didn’t even see the hair start to lighten until around 7 minutes in.
However, I knew I wanted the iridescent violet undertones with the bleach instead of yellow tones.
4. I again used the L’Oreal EverPure Moisture Shampoo.
5. I put Jerome Russel Punky Color on my hair. I used Turquoise (described as a medium teal blue) on the bleached portion of my hair in the front. I used Midnight Blue (described as a really dark blue) on the rest of my hair. Let me just say OMG Midnight Blue is gorgeous. I struggled to achieve that color with Manic Panic Black & Blue + After Midnight in my hair, and this color gave it to me effortlessly.
6. I put a cap on my hair and left the color in for 3 hours.
7. I rinsed my hair forever until the water seemed like it was running clear.
8. I used the L’Oreal EverPure Moisture Shampoo again.
9. I used Ion Color Brilliance After Color Hair Treatment. It’s supposed to restore the pH level, close the cuticles, eliminate oxidizing agents and protect the hair.
10. Then I rinsed my hair clean.

Here’s my hair outside in overcast natural light with no flash.

Here’s my hair outside in natural light with flash. You can see how truly gorgeous Turquoise and Midnight Blue are in this picture.
In all the blue hair pics, I have no makeup on. That’s my naked skin and you can see the pink overtones I have. The two outdoor pictures were taken today and the one inside at the top was taken last night. My allergies went CRAZY today, leaving my eyes swollen, puffy, red, itchy etc and I kept having to flush my eyes all day. This made me pretty miserable. However, they’re finally feeling better.

Hello Cotton
Love that color on you! It looks awesome.
Thank you Michelle!
As I said before, I love the color change plus your skin looks so fresh and flawless in the blue hair pics! wearing lotions, foundations, and powders with spf as part of your skincare routine left great results
Thank you so much Invicta! Yeah I always wear SPF. Otherwise, I’ll end up with more redness and burns.
Oh my gosh! That looks beautiful on you! Please come to my house and dye my hair! haha
Hehe! I’d be happy to help
ohhhhh, we’re blue hair twins! The blue in my hair is After Midnight Blue.
Hehe awesome
Have you tried the Jerome Russel Punky color? I’m really impressed. The blue hasn’t bled on my skin at all.
I love the turquoise hair! Gorgeous. =)
Thanks Serena! I’m so happy with the change.
The midnight blue is stunning.
Thank you!
I love both colors on you.
Yay, thanks Cin!
Awesome! If my hair was shorter I would totally go midnight blue
But since my hair reaches to the hip I’m not feeling like drenching it in bleach so I’ll stick with henna and indigo instead
/L
I only bleached the front portion of my hair (where the pink was). I put the blue on top of non-bleached hair
I’ve heard that henna and indigo work really well, too, but I’ve never tried either.
Oh I LOVE these colors on you!!!
Thanks Thia!
Love the new colours! Looks really nice on you.
Thanks Blix! I <3 it
I think I mentioned before that my hair had pink streaks in it, the same color as your fringe. Well, it seemed like I was having to redye it every week or two, so I talked to my sister (both my sisters are stylists) about it and she said she thought purple would have more staying power.
So we re-processed everything with purple dye, and instead, my hair is blue/green and after a couple of washes, it is teal with powder blue tips.
Neither of my sisters can figure out why this is happening, but I’ve re-dyed it multiple times and it always turns blue and green.
I’m using Paul Mitchell Ultraviolet.
Thought I’d just share a hair color mystery with you.
I love the blues though. It is gorgeous! As for me, I’m just rolling with my peacock colored hair.
How bizarre! I bet your hair looks gorgeous though. Hmm, maybe try a different dye and see what results you have? I’m a big fan of the Jerome Russel Punky color that I used. You can grab it from Ulta or from Morgana Minerals.
I’ve heard Raw (Hot Topic) is really good too, but I can’t bring myself to go into Hot Topic. The one up here is full of middle schoolers and their moms.

I think I tried Raw a long time ago and it just didn’t work for me.
Your hair looks gorgeous, as always Phyrra!!
Have you ever used Special Effects? I have to order it online, but it’s totally worth it for me. Although Manic Panic works fine for me too. I’m thinking of going Vampire Red in the next few weeks. I’ve been stuck at Medium Red Brown (with Violet tones) for too long. I really am longing for some color!
But I’m a sucker for blues and purples. I’ve wanted blue hair since I was a little kid (which is why I finally dyed it all blue a few years ago). I really think I was born to have blue or purple hair. Browns, blondes, etc don’t feel “natural” to me.
Anyhow, LOVELY tutorial and walk-through!

I tried Special Effects once,a purple, and it was nice
Right now I’m stuck on Jerome Russel Punky color. I totally feel you on the ‘natural’ blue or purple hair, I like those so much better! Glad you liked the walkthrough.
Love this color!!!!!
Thanks Diana
You look pretty badass. ^^
You have great skin!
Thanks LP
Wow – you look gorgeous!
Thanks Michelle!
hooray for the return of blue hair! it is so flattering on you. and i love the glasses!
Aww thanks Manda :>
Interesting color, looks nice on you though I liked the pink/wine one more
Probably because I’m a redhead so I’m more into such colors

It’s definitely fun to have the option to switch between all the different colors :> For many years I always did shades of red – burgundy, fire engine red, blue-based red, etc.
it looks fabulous!

Thanks Coco!
OMG LOVE this on you! Makes me wish I could get by with blue, but I’m barely scrapping by with my purpley pink so…yeah…no blue for me!
I’ll just live vicariously through you!
Absolutely gorgeous!
Awww! Thanks! Yours is gorgeous though.
I love the new hair colour! And baby, you look gorgeous barefaced. For real.
Aww thank you
I’m always so nervous about my naked face.
