Musings on Makeup Prices, Sizes & Shipping

In the wake of all the new companies that keep popping up on Etsy and other places on the internet, I’ve realized I cannot purchase and review from every single one of them. I’ve also realized that I shouldn’t; that I should instead focus on the companies I like the most.

Does this mean that I will not try new companies? No, but it does mean that I will be very selective about what I do try.

This entry is mostly about pricing and products for the companies I like. I don’t work for these companies and the prices are subject to change whenever each company changes them.

V means that some, if not all products, are vegan.

While I do try to shop and support indie, I am including MAC on this list since I do purchase from them and many people consider them to be a standard for makeup.

Just a note, if people only wanted to get one item from Sugarpill, they can save a dollar on shipping by getting it from Shrinkle’s ebay :)

Thank you for letting us know! I didn’t know that!

Thanks for the listing. I agree that it is hard to try all the new companies that are starting up. While I love supporting indie MMU companies, its hard to decide which ones to try.

Right now I seem to be in a holding pattern. I’m a loyal Meow and Fyrinnae fan. I have also been ordering from a few of the more established MMU companies like High Voltage and Evil Shades.

There are a few like Sobe, Silk, and Morgana I want to try. I think I will be more likely to try some of these established companies before I try the new ones that are selling eyeshadow only.

Its so hard to figure out where I’m going to spend my money. There are so many companies out there trying to get a piece of the pie!

Honestly, this is so true. There are so many companies out there! It’s hard to tell where to go.

Thanks for this! Like Peach said, I’m in a holding pattern too. I have my handful of places I purchase from (meow, fyrinnae, MAC, and morgana) and while I have a list of companies I want to try, I never can find anything I really want to get from them. LOL….

    • Phyrra August 23, 2010 at 10:10 pm #

Aww, I almost always have a ‘wish list’ somewhere.

      • Thia Winter August 24, 2010 at 5:52 am #

The first place I go when I want to get an idea of somewhere to try is here, seriously. I guess I’m just loyal to the companies I already buy from. I’ll get around to trying some soon though….Suds N Sass are probably next with the new glosses.

Aww thank you :> I’m glad you like coming here! SnS is really cool!

Which company give the most “bang for your buck”, so to speak? I want to try all of them, but unfortunately, I’m destitute as it is.

    • Phyrra August 23, 2010 at 10:09 pm #

Probably Fyrinnae or Evil Shades. It’s really hard to say.

  5. Invicta August 23, 2010 at 10:04 pm #

    No Persephone Minerals?

    • Phyrra August 23, 2010 at 10:06 pm #

Too new yet. I’m still trying them out, and while I’m really liking the samples I have, listed above are the companies that are pretty tried and true.

  6. Nessa August 24, 2010 at 9:04 am #

I am so glad you posted something like this! All this info all in one place is fantastic!
I do have a ? though: Which ones provide samples in a jar and not baggies? I’ve never really worked with baggies and they seem like they might be kinda hard to work with.
    Thanks!

    • Phyrra August 26, 2010 at 11:43 pm #

Baggies aren’t too bad to work with. I think the ones I just listed as sample are bags and sample jars are jars, but you’ll have to check each individual site.

I really want to try many companies but unfortunately, intl shipping is something that’s just too expensive at most of these sites. :(

That’s why I really like Fyrinnae and their shipping policy and of course, the fact that they are great and do give a lot of product and that they are the cheaper ones. :)

I also like Meow but their shipping is $14 which is completely too much. Okay, it is priority flat rate, but still… And I’m so in love with their foundation! :D

I’ve heard that some people do basically group orders internationally to save on shipping costs. Maybe that could help?

      • Vesna @ beautyaddict.net August 27, 2010 at 3:40 am #

I did that 2 times I think, or maybe even more (with Meow), but then every order turns out to be like $100 and our custom fee limit now is only $30 so I’m not really happy to pay those extra fees if they check our package because those fees are too high. :/

The good side is that though those orders were big, they came in big envelope and here they don’t tend to check envelopes, just bigger packages so I might give it a try again :D
