Smurf Magic

As a kid, I remember watching the Smurfs. I also remember my friends who couldn’t watch the Smurfs because the show had magic in it, and their parents felt like Magic was evil. While I don’t think Magic is evil, I had complete and utter makeup fail today. Let me recount the ways. I’ve wanted to wear Fyrinnae’s Dark Magic, and I just could never figure out how to wear it. I asked the lovely Fyrinnae_2nd what he recommended and he said a silvery-blue. So I used Urban Decay’s matte shade, Narcotic, on my lid, and then put Aromaleigh’s Puffo on top of that. I think I should have skipped Narcotic on the lid and just used Puffo. then, I thought about using MAC’s Plum Dressing for my brows, since it’s softer and pinker than I’ve been doing lately. Instead I just grabbed Poison Plum again, and it’s definitely too bright for this look. I also messed up on my brow on one side. Arg.

Anyway, here’s my catastrophe.

I totally messed this up. Ug. However, to placate you, let me show you the cuteness propped up against a pillow.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Urban Decay Narcotic – lid
Aromaleigh Puffo – lid and lower lash line
Fyrinnae Dark Magic – crease and outer v
MAC Vapour – on browbone
MAC Crystal Avalanche – inner corners of eye and under eyebrows
Smashbox Brow Tech Wax
Sugarpill Poison Plum – to define brows
Wet n’ Wild Black Gel Eyeliner – upper lash line
Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Yeyo – lower water line
Cover Girl Lash Blast Luxe Mascara
Flirt! It Curl Mascara

Hard Candy Baked Blush in Living Doll

Meow Pampered Puss foundation in Inquisitive Siamese

MAC Lip Pencil in Life’s A Breeze – lightly lined.
MAC Lipstick in Naughty You – applied very sparingly and blended around with finger tip
Soap n’ Glory Sexy Motherpucker Gloss in Clear

While I had total failure with my eyes, I have to say that I LOVE Naughty you. I applied it very sparingly, blending it on my lips with my finger tip, and then put gloss over it. It looked nice.

      love it!

        Thanks Kelly!

Actually I really like this. I think the colors look great together. Also that sucks, my cousins weren’t allowed to read the Harry Potter books because their hard core Catholic. :/

      • http://pa1nt3d-pr1nc3ss.blogspot.com/ KittenMittens

lol my cousins are too but my aunt ended up loving the books so much (I think it was curiosity) she bought one copy for herself and 2 for all the kids to fight over so they wouldn’t destroy hers hahahah.

        • Phyrra

Good for your aunt letting them read the books!

      • Phyrra

Aww, I feel bad for your cousins! Glad you like the look!

    • Tina

The blue looks kind of matte and the crease color is very sparkly. It is always good to try new things :).

      • Phyrra

Yes, Narcotic is definitely a matte, though I did put Puffo on top. Originally I thought the matte would be a nice contrast with the sparkly, but I think for the colors chose, I should have just done Puffo on its own. You’re totally right, trying new things is good :)

Even your fails still look good! I remember I had a friend who couldn’t watch Scooby Doo or Pokemon because they were “the devil’s shows” made to “brainwash children”.

      • Phyrra

Scooby Doo? Wow, that’s awful! I always liked SD because they’d think it was magic or supernatural, but then show how it wasn’t. You’d think parents would like that!

    • http://meowmisu.blogspot.com/ Nina

OMG I loved the smurfs… used to collect the little figurines :)

I don’t think this a fail at all, love that crease color.. particularly against the smurfy blue.

      • Phyrra

        Hehe, thanks Nina!

    • monket

That doesn’t look so bad! Though I think Dark Magik would be really pretty with an olive-y green or gold color more than a blue.

      • Phyrra

Oooh maybe Fyrinnae’s Aztec Gold would look good.

    • http://a-crazy-peach.blogspot.com/ The Peach

That is an awesome crease color against the blue! I think Dark Magic would look great paired with a matte purple too!

      • Phyrra

        Matte purple sounds great, Peach!

I think Smurfs came out at the end of my high school years. I remember the toys and figurines being around but never watched the show.

Doesn’t look like a failure to me. Looks unique and bold.

      • Phyrra

        Thanks Kim :)

Oh, I know what your friends went through! I was allowed to watch the Smurfs, but there were many things that I couldn’t watch or listen to :-/

I think your eye look is lovely.

      • Phyrra

I remember my parents being more fussy about movies, which is probably because they let me watch Gremlins at an early age and I had nightmares for years.

    • Invicta

I like the crease and eyelid color combo as is. Dark Magic is a lovely color, and as for your brows I think Princess of Darkness is my favorite brow-filling eyeshadow color for you. I wonder if it would complement this look…

      • Invicta

P.S. the mother of my best friend during childhood wouldn’t let us watch the Sabrina the Teenage Witch animated series for obvious reasons (they lived in a strict Baptist household). I also remember that while my cousin was battling cancer, the pastor (Christian btw) advised his mom to throw away all his Yu-Gi-Oh cards and action figures because it dealt with rituals, magic & sacrifices and she complied. Which sucks, because it would have been a much needed source of comfort for him.

        • Phyrra

OMG that’s so sad :( Dave’s mom threw away all his Magic the Gathering cards at one point, which infuriated him.

      • Phyrra

Oooh good point, Princess of Darkness IS fantastic.

    • http://www.shirocosmetics.com Caitlin

Oh man. My mom won’t allow my siblings to read the Harry Potter books, or watch Wizards of Waverly Place. What’s hilarious is that she herself loves the Legend of Drizzt books and other dark-magicky reads. XD I also had one friend in middle school whose mother wouldn’t let her have a how-to-draw book that she wanted because there was a fairy on the cover, and wouldn’t let her play with Beyblades because the TV show implied that the tops had spirits, or something. It was hilarious.

      • Phyrra

Sometimes parents can be so strange! I know they are doing what they believe is best for their children, but sometimes it just baffles me!

    • http://www.sirvinya.com Sirvinya

It’s not a failure! I love the colour of Dark Magic :)

      • Phyrra

        Thanks Sirvinya!

    • http://morgainesmakeup.blogspot.com/ Diana

Is THIS a fail?? LOL, like it very much!!!!!

      • Phyrra

        Aww thanks Diana!

    • http://www.thedarkbutterfly.com/blog Erline

I like what you did with Narcotic, didn’t realize how pretty it was and I agree with the others, even your *fails* look good ;)
Sadly, I am one of those children you speak of that were never allowed to watch anything. Raised in a JW household there were no smurfs, no Sabrina, nothing with even a hint of magic…if it wasn’t for my dad’s love of Scooby Doo I wouldn’t have been able to watch that either.
Could only watch the Flintstones, Jetsons, Topcat and the rest of throw back cartoons which I love but I sure made up for lost time the moment I could hehe

      • Phyrra

Oh wow, yeah that would have been very difficult :( I always loved Sabrina. I’m glad you could at least watch Scooby Doo. I always loved that show from the time I was very small.

    • http://beautifulwithbrains.com gio

This is not a failure! I think it looks really good and that those colors go very well together.

      • Phyrra

Thanks Gio :) Dark Magic is really pretty, I just don’t understand why I have problems thinking of colors to try it with.

    • http://pa1nt3d-pr1nc3ss.blogspot.com/ KittenMittens

      I really like this look! I don’t think it’s fail-y at all!

And my parents would let us watch and listen to whatever we wanted and I remember my friend wanted a cd for her birthday and my mom asking “is she allowed to have this?” and I thought that was the weirdest question!
I don’t remember much from the smurfs but I had the cassette tape! It had an orange label.

      • Phyrra

LOL, that would be odd for your mom to ask, after her being permissive with you!

    • Laura

Aww, I don’t think this is bad at all! Pretty!:)

      • Phyrra

        Thanks Laura!

    • Marina

I love, love, love the color in the crease…and I love the Smurfs! I completely get what you’re saying about the parents not letting their kids watch it. My parents didn’t want me reading Harry Potter when I was younger…but you know how curiosity works! We had a Scholastic-sponsored thing called Reading Is Fundamental where we got a free book every semester…and I picked out Harry Potter and would read it on the bus home XD They eventually realized it was boosting my vocabulary and that it wasn’t all bad, and now mom even kind of likes it. At least, she goes to the movies :)

      • Phyrra

Wow, cool program with the Reading is Fundamental giving you a book. That’s neat. As a kid, and still as an adult, I read voraciously. However, I always focus on supernatural, paranormal, vampires, magic, fantasy, etc.

    • cinseven13

      Lovely look!

Not being allowed to watch the Smurfs? Smurf that!

      • Phyrra

        LOL! I love you Cin!

    • http://pinchypea.ch Pinch

Yes, absolutely loving the lip combo! And remember, we can’t always get everything perfect, ’cause then we wouldn’t be able to appreciate those times when we do get it right :)

      • Phyrra

You are so right, Pinch. It’s nice to have the fails to appreciate the successes!

    • http://lacquerwarefortipsandtoes.blogspot.com/ Dragonrhia

This look is awesome. I never thought of using a color other than brown for my brows. I really like how that works with the purple.

      • Phyrra

Thanks Dragonrhia :) I’ve also tried pink and blue, black, auburn, brown, teal, aqua, etc :)

    • http://www.parched.etsy.com Parched

      Puffo is gorgeous!

I wasn’t allowed to watch anything remotely violent (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, She-Ra, Transformers, etc) but I was allowed to watch things like The Simpsons.

The outcome is that I’m overly sensitive to graphic violence. I find it very difficult to watch horror movies and usually close my eyes while anything is happening.

But my heathen parents didn’t care what I read.

      • Phyrra

I don’t handle gore very well, myself.
        LOL @the heathen parent comment.

    • http://silhouettescreams.blogspot.com SilhouetteScreams

I actually really love this look, because I’m a fan of turquoise-y colours with bronzey shades :D

      • Phyrra

Thanks Silhouette! I definitely love seeing turquoise and bronze or gold together :) Do you have a favorite copper shade?
