Due to the lovely Grey at LeGothique’s Pick of the Week last week, I wanted to try L’Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base. When I happened to head into Walmart on Friday, I saw it there and it came home with me. Today is the first day I’ve tried wearing it, and I decided to try it without any foundation. I used only a very light dusting of Ultra Resolution Finishing Powder in clear.
I also put together that look I mentioned wanting to try with Alima Pure’s Fairy Tale Holiday Collection. I’m not 100% pleased with it. I feel like I look weird since I didn’t use a gel liner. I also feel like Magic Wand is probably a tad too dark to be used alone as a highlighter on my browbone. It’s a good transitional shade though.

Shade Descriptions:
Dreamy – gold-glittered pink
Glass Slipper – soft silvery yellow
Spun Gold – deeper golden shade
Magic Wand – a magical, nude shimmer
Fairy Godmother – medium purple with silver sparkle
Zen – warm pink
Poison Apple – rosy blush with peachy shimmer
The End – an almost-black eyeliner with diamond-like silver shimmer
Eyes:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Alima Pure Glass Slipper – inner lid, inner v, inner lower lash line
Alima Pure Spun Gold – outer lid
Alima Pure Magic Wand – from crease to eyebrows
Alima Pure Fairy Godmother – applied widely in crease, then I applied some Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy to the outer crease, and then I applied more Fairy Godmother
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy – in outer crease on top of first layer of Fairy Godmother, along upper lash line
Alima Pure The End – on top of Pixie Epoxy along upper lash line, outer lower lash line
Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero – to define brows
Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Yeyo – lower water line
Hard Candy 1000 Lashes Primer
Flirt! It Curls Mascara
Face:
L’Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base
Aromaleigh Ultra Resolution Finishing Powder in Clear
Cheeks:
Alima Pure Blush in Poison Apple
Alima Pure Magic Wand – to highlight
Hard Candy blush in Bombshell – to contour
Lips:
Honeybee Garden Lip Liner in Zen – lined and filled in lips
MAC Lipglass in Dreamy
I’m not sure if Fairy Godmother was so hard to work with initially because I put down a layer of Magic Wand or what. Adding just a touch of Pixie Epoxy was great, but then I had to blend a ton. Finally I added more Fairy Godmother on top of it and blended it out and then my crease looked ok. It was way more work than I normally do!
I feel kinda kinda naked without having any foundation on my face, especially because I have a few blemishes. However, it seems like the L’Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base doesn’t look bad, especially with the Aromaleigh Ultra Resolution Finishing powder. Unfortunately, my T-zone does feel just a touch oily, so I don’t know if I should try some sort of mattifying finishing powder (is there one? if so, who makes it?) or just try a light dusting of my normal foundation on top. I actually feel like my skin, aside from the blemishes, looks really good with this face combination.
What do you think?

Hello Cotton
I love it, the colors r very pretty: )
Thanks Sakura
Your skin looks gorgeous without foundation, I only wish mine looked as mine!
Thank you Mai! I get nervous about it, but I’m trying it more often.
This is a very pretty look and your skin looks great even without foundation.

Thank you so much Gio! I appreciate the vote of confidence!
I love this purple and gold look! I agree that Magic Wand may be a tad dark as a highlighter. But the overall look is beautiful! And you don’t look weird without any gel liner!

Thank you Peach! Yeah, I think I’m just so darn pale that a highlighter that may work for most people, may not work on me. That’s probably why I tend to prefer more extreme/whiter highlighters.
SoBe makes a reallllly nice Oil Control face powder that you should check out. I’ve been dusting that on my T when I use the L’oreal stuff, which I love completely.

I will definitely check it out
Grey, I can’t thank you enough for your review on the L’Oreal primer. I REALLY like the results of it on my face with just a bit of powder or foundation dusted over. I haven’t felt confident enough to be ‘naked’ skin color in a long time, because I always worry about my natural pink overtone.
Very pretty loves it!
Thank you Amber!
I think this is a soft, pretty look. Loving the purple and gold, it’s one of my favorite combos. Might have to check out Alima now for this collection…thanks!
