5 Favorites – Skincare

I figured I’d list 5 favorite skincare products I’m using right now, since I haven’t done this for a while.

1. mark For Goodness Face Antioxidant Skin Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 – $16 for 1.7 fl. oz.

I’ve gone through at least 3 jars of this and I think I’m now working on my 4th. I love this moisturizer and it’s what I use for daytime wear in between trying out new skincare lines.

I really like that I don’t have to stick my fingers into a jar to get out the product. It has a pump top that you press down to dispense product. While I’ve heard some people complain about it jamming, I’ve yet to experience that issue. I love the ingredients in it and that it’s SPF 30. I’ve also safely and carefully used this around my eyes. As long as I’m going to put on eye shadow primer after I apply it, I don’t ever have a problem with the moisturizer migrating into my eyes if my eyelids get oily or sweat.

2. The Body Shop Seaweed Purifying Facial Cleanser – $14 for 6.76 fl. oz.

This is a fantastic mild cleanser for me with a soap free formula that doesn’t irritate my skin. I think it does a pretty good job on its own, with a wash cloth, or with my Clarisonic Mia at cleansing my face and removing makeup.

3. Clarisonic Mia – Pink – $149

I’ve been using this for over a year now and I still love it. I only use it once a day because it’s too intense on my skin to use more than that. What I also love about it is that I got Ray into using it.

4. Exuviance Purifying Cleansing Gel – $28 for 7.2 fl. oz.

I’m still working on finishing off this bottle that I’ve had for over 6 months. In between trying new skincare lines, I use this and the Seaweed Purifying Facial Cleanser. I normally only use this with the Clarisonic Mia now.

5. Avon ANEW Rejuvenate Night Revitalizing Cream – $13.99 for 1.7 fl.oz on Amazon.com, not at Avon.com

Since I got this, I’ve been using it as my night cream and I am happy with the results so far, but I’m not done testing yet. I’m waking up with my face moisturized but not greasy. I wasn’t 100% happy with the previous night creams that I’d tried, so even though I’ve not been using this for 2 weeks yet, I’m going to list it here. Also, it amazes me that it’s on sale for literally half the cost on Amazon.com from Avon selling on Amazon. You can also get the Avon ANEW Rejuvenate 24 Hour Eye Moisturizer SPF 25 2 1 in jar that I’m trying out for $13.95 on Amazon, too.

Both of these products, though I initially like them, suffer from the same big problem. They’re in jars. It used to never bother me to stick my hands in a jar because I’m always washing my face/hands before I put stuff on my face/eyes/neck. So my hands are always clean before I dip them in the jar. HOWEVER, now it drives me crazy! Inevitably I end up with moisturizer beneath my nails. I also wonder about how well the ingredients in the jar keep when being exposed to air. While I don’t leave my jars open very long, just usually long enough for me to put the product on my face and then close it, that’s still more exposure than if it came from a pump. I am now firmly in the camp of people that hates jars for face products! I’d rather have a pump like my mark daytime moisturizer any day than an open jar like the ones I currently have.

So what are your favorite skincare products right now?

How do you feel about jars for skincare products?

All products were purchased by me with the exception of the Exuviance Purifying Cleansing Gel, which was sent to me for consideration. All opinions expressed are my own. Not every product will work for every person.

I’m kind if inbetween brands for almost everything right now, so I may have to check out Mark & Avon- they’re both lines I’ve always ignored, for the most part.

My favorite stand-by products, at the moment, are CeraVe AM for day & the original cream for night, though since I’m on break from my prescription retinol, I’d like something a little bit more advanced for my night time routine. Of course, I could just go grab some Olay Regenerist Serum & be done with it, but something tells me I’m in the mood to experiment!

Oh, and as far as jars, they definitely are not w/out their issues, but for those of us that need super-rich moisturizers, it seems like the only option…the only other thing I can think of that would work for the more balmy concoctions is a toothpaste-like tube. Not quite as attractive as some of the luxe, fancy jars, so I don’t see that catching on!

I feel like I can wholeheartedly recommend the mark For Goodness face moisturizer to you because I believe I’ve been using it for a year and I can tell you, this past winter is the first time I’ve ever gotten paler in my life and I believe it’s due to the superior SPF of the moisturizer as compared to the Oil of Olay Sensitive Skin that I used to use.

Yeah I HATE the jars now, and they used to not bother me :(

A toothpaste tube, like what a lot of the new lines I’ve been reviewing, don’t bother me at all. I think as long as the package design/colors are classy, the tube design is fine. I just don’t want the ingredients in the product to break down because of exposure to air.

I’m still not completely sold on the eye cream because I believe you when you say that eye creams are just like other moisturizers, only smaller and more expensive :P Especially considering that I’d only ever tried 1 that WOW’d me (that super expensive Exuviance one). However, I do at least like the texture and SPF of the 2 in 1 ANEW one I’m trying.

I can’t wait to hear what you decide to try and review, to be honest :)

Oh, about the Clarisonic. I want to mention that from Amazon the clarisonic plus is about $170 (give or take). I absolutely love it. I use the face one for my face, duh, but the body one was the hidden gem for me. Some of my trouble spots (on both my face and body) have vastly improved in one week of using the Clarisonic.

I actually got the Clarisonic because of your reviews of it. So, thanks! :D Now you’ve got me thinking about trying Avon again. I’m getting some serious eye lines going on lately because of the dry air, drying sunscreens, and sleeping on my face too much. Time to see what Avon can do for me. :)

Thanks for your gift list ideas!

I looooved the mark. Matte Chance moisturizer when it came out, I went through a few jars before deciding I was using it up too fast, so I stopped in favor of more practical alternatives. :( I miss it..

I don’t really have any fave skincare right now… I’m always in that inbetween place, trying to find my HGs.

I’ve never tried the matte chance moisturizer. The Body Shop Makes an SPF 15 seaweed mattifying one.

I feel like the Mark for goodness face lasts a reasonable amount of time for a daytime moisturizer and I feel like it works really well at moisturizing my skin and protecting it from the sun.

I’m more into eco-stuff, currently going through a selection of Dr.Scheller’s creams (a cheap German eco-brand). They are very light and seem to do the job. Should my skin get really bad, I always return to Dr. Hauschka’s bloody expensive rose cream.

      • Phyrra

I always require an SPF in my daytime moisturizer and I really prefer SPF 30 or higher, so it’s hard for me to find eco stuff that falls into that category.

interesting, a toothpaste-y tube. i usually avoid jars because of the whole air/light getting in thing, but then when i use a pump i feel like i’m wasting half the container because you can ever get in there and get every last bit like you can with a jar.

      • Phyrra

Yeah the tubes actually work great. You can squeeze out exactly how much you want.
