Avon 24K Gleam Gold Eyeshadow Quad & Other Products – Review

Recent I saw the Avon 24K Gleam Gold Limited-Edition Holiday Quad online over at Izzy’s blog, Musings of a Muse. The colors sounded so nice that I had to give them a try. I’m apparently falling more and more in love with the color gold, which is so strange considering my aversion to the color for the majority of my life.

I purchased the Gleam Gold Quad, the Simply Gold Lip Gloss, the 24K Gold Lipstick, the Golden Rose Lipstick and the Steel SuperShock Gel Eyeliner Pencil. The Lipsticks were buy 1 get one for 99 cents and the quad was on sale for $5.99, and the lipgloss was on sale for $3.99. I got free shipping, too. As I’d tried the lipsticks before, in the shade Golden Wine, I was fairly confident that I’d like 24k Gold and Golden Rose.

First I swatched all the products together, on my bare skin.

Then I went back and swatched the products on Aromaleigh Light Primer.

Since there are no official color descriptions on the Avon website, the following are my own. The shades aren’t even named in the quad, they’re just numbered.

24K Gleam Gold Quad Limited Edition
1 White Gold – white with golden shimmer (highlight)
2 Yellow Gold – yellow gold with golden shimmer
3 Red Plum Gold – reddish plum with golden shimmer
4 Golden Chocolate – chocolate brown with golden shimmer
The quad recommends to apply 2 to the lid, 3 to the outer lid or outer crease, 4 ‘to define in the outer eye’ and 1 to highlight.

K Gold Lip Gloss
Simply Gold – it seems like a light golden gloss with golden shimmer

24K Lipstick
24K Gold – a light golden shade
Golden Rose – a light rose pink with golden shimmer

SuperShock Gel Eyeliner
Steel – deep grey

Steel almost looked like it had dark blue micro shimmer in it, but I’ll have to play with it a bit more to confirm. While it did stay on my hand pretty well – I had to scrub at it with soap and water and a wash cloth to remove it – I’m not sure how long lasting it is. It’s supposed to be like using gel eyeliner.

I’ll be trying the Gleam eye shadows out soon to see how they are. I actually really like the colors and the obvious golden shimmer in all of them. Edit: You can see my look with all 4 eye shadows here. The colors are buttery smooth and the pigmentation is great. I only had to use a tiny bit of the brown color to do my crease. I was very pleased with the results. These are the nicest eye shadows that I’ve tried from Avon in I don’t know how long. They’re certainly better than the mark Rebel Rose quad I picked up, which, while it was pretty, a couple of the colors had bad pigmentation.

I’ve also tried the 24k Gold lipstick so far and it is gorgeous! Love it!

While I may have originally thought of Avon as makeup my Grandma would wear and love, I’ve slowly been won over by mark for Avon, as well as some of the newer Avon products.

What do you think of Avon? Have you tried anything you liked?

Gosh, I’ve always loved Avon. I account my ability to look years younger than I really am to using the Anew skincare line from the beginning.

The primer really brought out the shimmer in the quads. I like! And the Steel liner; can’t wait to see what you do with it.

How do you like the eye cream specifically? My favorite eye cream is the Exuviance Brightening Bionic Eye Cream but I HATE the $52 price tag. I was looking at the ANEW REJUVENATE 24 Hour Eye Moisturizer SPF 25.

Can’t wait to see how these colors look on you! I pondering ordering some of this collection, I just never did.

And Avon products are hit and miss for me. I have been loving their Super Magnify mascara. I have tried and like their lipsticks and polishes. I haven’t ever tried their glosses. I also like their Glimmerstick Diamonds eyeliners!

I would agree that products are hit and miss. I tried the mark Rebel Rose quad because the colors were pretty but I was disappointed with the pigmentation in some of the shades. However, the Gleam Gold quad does NOT disappoint! The shadow texture is great, the colors are lovely and they’re pigmented. I definitely recommend the 24k Lipsticks. What’s your favorite shade in the Gllimmterstick Diamonds eyeliner? Do they work on oily lids?

I’m a bit let down by the lipsticks :( I thought they’d be more intense. I was going to grab 3 of them with this last campaign but I think I’ll save my moola. I do like that quad though!
I don’t buy avon cosmetics very often, I prefer their Mark line. Especially the lippie hook-ups (Petal Luxe, Girly Girl (perfect pinks) Peek-a-boo (one of my fav nudes, was a freebie, bought it twice now)

Have you seen me wearing Golden Wine? It’s really pigmented and gorgeous. I haven’t worn the Golden Rose yet, but the 24k Gold is nice. I wore it last night. I really like my mark Moisturizer :) I haven’t tried any of the hook ups! I’ve never gotten any freebies when ordering from Avon. I’ll have to go peek at those lippies. Thanks for the rec!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Avon’s SuperMagnify Mascara! I wear Navy every day. I really liked the Feeling Fine eyeliners, but they’ve gone away … :( I have lots of Avon stuff! They seem to be on-trend now (as opposed to being “your grandma’s makeup company”).

It definitely seems that way! I first gave them a try again when I kept reading rave reviews about the mark line and I’ve liked some of it.

I’ve bought the waterproof Glimmersticks eye liner in several colors several times. On Peach’s recommendation, I may buy the Diamond versions! I have two of the dual ended shadow/liner brush as they are indispensable.

I’ve had no luck with foundation, shadow, gloss or lipstick, with the exception of only one lipstick which was too intense. Part of the problem may be the shades in the catalog are not true.

I enjoy the In Bloom fragrance and am looking at the Outspoken. All the other Avon colognes smell the same to me! lol

It looks like their swatches online are horrid. The only reason I originally picked up Golden Wine last year was that the color looked pretty in someone else’s FOTD. That gave me the courage to pick up 24k Gold and Golden Rose. I have to say, I’m not disappointed with those 3 lipsticks.

The quad colours look really lovely over primer. I’ll be curious to see if they work all right on the lid, since they don’t look hugely pigmented. Lovely shades though.

I think sponge applicators really suck. I Just used it because I was being lazy, and so that’s why I went back and swatched it the way I normally do, over primer. The colors didn’t disappoint when I wore them :)

  7. SilhouetteScreams November 6, 2010 at 2:19 am #

Whoa, the shadows look MUCH better over primer! I love the gold shimmer in that plum shade.

Yes, it’s really gorgeous :) So glad you like! Have you ever tried Avon?

  8. Annamax November 6, 2010 at 2:11 pm #

I used to sell Avon. Fun times…haha except not really. I found that their makeup is VERY hit or miss, but that quad looks really nice! I also really like their mascaras, they haven’t ever let me down.

I’ve now heard several people say they make awesome mascaras! Do they have any with large brushes?

  9. G. November 6, 2010 at 3:13 pm #

Um, can I just tell you that I get giddy when you review pressed shadows? lol! This quad looks amazing on you, and I probably would have passed right over it had I not seen your review. That red plum shade is absolutely stunning!

BTW, I’m the same way about gold. For years I rebelled against it, but now I totally embrace it. I haven’t switched over to gold jewelry though…I’ve always been a silver jewelry gal, but maybe someday. lol.

Aww! I don’t often review them, but first Sugarpill and now Avon have really made their way into my hearts. I’m so glad you like the quad, too! I saw the promo pix and went ‘whoah, that looks gorgeous’ and since I’ve been loving UD’s Half-Baked so much, I figured it needed some friends. These are nice friends :)

I still don’t care for gold on me, I like platinum, steel or silver much better :)

      What are your favorite golds?

  10. Molly November 9, 2010 at 3:08 pm #

Everything is so pretty! I usually shy away from gold because it always looks orange on me somehow, but I’m always drawn to it. I love the Avon perfect wear eyewriter liquid liner! Easy to apply and stays on forever (or until you wash it off). I’ve never minded buying Avon because the woman I’m buying it from is using the sales to make ends meet. I like supporting a friend and getting goodies to boot.

I thought it was all pretty, too ;) I’m really impressed with the eye shadows, the first from Avon in a long time.
