Holiday Gift Guide

It’s that time of year again! I wanted to put together a Holiday Gift Guide before mid-November, since there are a lot of upcoming sales. Now, please keep in mind that I’m a bit eclectic. Regardless, here are my suggestions!

1. Amazon Gift Card – Any $ Amount
You can choose any amount you like, which is nice. Giving an Amazon gift card allows people to purchase anything from books for their Kindle to makeup to games to gadgets for the house. Every time I get them, they go towards books for my kindle. I think they’re fantastic.

2. A Hand Blender – $18.40
This may seem like an odd choice, but it’s fantastic for whipping guacamole or mashed potatoes. It’s got a plastic part that protects the blade and keeps stuff from splattering all over you. In my opinion, it’s better than using a hand masher or another type of blender.

3. Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Camera – $204.94
This is the newer version of my camera that I use for my blog. It comes in a vast array of colors (blue, dark grey, green, orange, light grey and hot pink). It’s got fantastic features. This is what I plan to upgrade to whenever I can, in hot pink, of course!

4. Gift Cards to Indie Merchants – Any $ Amount
I believe almost all of my favorite Indie Merchants have gift certificates available. Alternately, I think you can send a gift via PayPal. You can see reviews I’ve written about Indie Companies and products here. You can see places I shop here. You can see Creative Companies here. You really can get any sort of nice makeup, lipstick, skincare products, bath and body products and put together fantastic personalized kits for people from Indie merchants. Additionally, I’m pretty sure several of them will have Holiday kits, too!

5. Retro Plush Toys – $10 to $25
I found this store because they have Dragon Warrior slimes! They’re awesome! They also have Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog, and Ninjas!

6. Clarisonic Mia – $149
I STILL love my Clarisonic Mia. Ray loves it too. It gets used every day on my face. I think it’s fantastic. You can read my review about it here.

7. ecoTools Makeup Brushes – $6 to $15
If you want to give the gift of vegan, sustainable quality brushes, ecoTools is the way to go.

8. Custom Jewelry from WhimsyBeading – $20 & Up
You can get a variety of gorgeous pieces of custom jewelry from WhimsyBeading, which will make for a beautiful gift.

9. Amazon Kindle 3G – $189
While I have the Kindle 2, the 3G is the newest version. It’s really a cool product. I love being able to carry hundreds of books with me in a slim design.

10. Dreamery Studio – $8.50
The vintage art from this shop is printed on old book pages. It’s a neat concept.

If I get enough requests or if you need other types of suggestions, I may do a Holiday Gift Guide, part 2.

I got the Kindle for my birthday and I can say it is an amazing gift for book lovers like me!

      • Phyrra

Same here! I’ve got over 3 tons of books literally! Love the kindle!

I luuuurve Canon. I bought a pink SD1400IS this summer but I can’t figure out how to get it to zoom as clear as my old A540 so I still use that one and go through many many batteries lol.
For the Amazon gift card, do they mail the card to you? Or is it some email code they’ll send you? I’m trying to figure out if I want to get the mister an Amazon card or an Itunes one.

      • Phyrra

They have different options. You can do email, you can do print, you can have one mailed. I usually do email.

My current Canon is the Power Shot SD1100 IS Digital Elph 8.0 Mega Pixels.
        Love it :)

woohoo happy dance for the Elphs!! :D I’ll admit part of me bought it because it was called an elph lol

          • Phyrra

My first elph lasted like 5 years. I was REALLY impressed. I think they’re awesome.

I’ve been writing up EotD’s lately & I realized that I use my EcoTools brushes like 95% of the time! I worry that I sound like a PR shill for them…

After hauling who knows how many pounds of books out of an attic walk-up apartment when a moved a couple months ago… yeah, I need a Kindle. At least moving out was easier than moving in!

      • Phyrra

I’ve purchased and given away a lot of ecoTools. They originally sent me some brushes to try and I fell in love, which is why I keep buying them! I think they’re great. I try not to worry about what people think, just try to be precise so they can recreate if they want.

And OMG yes! Having 3 to 4 tons literally of books sucks to move!

omg I want that camera. My cannon I have now is a much older one that barely broke $100 and well….you see what my product photos look like…ick It was suggested I try macro mode which I did and the photos are almost clear BUT no matter what the color is always of or tinged with yellow no matter how I adjust settings…I never taken such poor photos in my life! Sometimes auto adjust on the windows photo galelry will get the colors almost right, but sometimes it’s just impossible. I have tried everything!! Do you think that camera could be a holy grail for my products?? I have been contimplating a new one.

*color is always Off, I meant to say, not of lol

      • Phyrra

You can try using a daylight bulb, or set up a light box, or using daylight outside.

I think using a daylight bulb in a lamp in the area you take pix would probably help.

I still tweak things in photoshop.

LOVE this year’s gift guide! And I completely, 100% agree with you on the hand blender. That’s an excellent idea and they’re only 20 bucks at Target (I know this, because I went to look for one but they were sold out). I completely forgot that I wanted one, so thank you for the reminder–going to ask my little brother to get this for me for X-mas! I heard they’re wonderful for making purees for soups, like cream of broccoli or potato, because you can blend your soup while it’s literally cooking in the pot! :)

      • Phyrra

Yay you’re quite welcome! I had no idea how awesome they were until I used one at Lea’s last weekend to make guacamole. Normally I just mash it by hand. Now one is on my wish list :)

Omg I am totally going to lurk that plush toy store :D

      • Phyrra

They have such cute stuff! The slimes warm my heart!

    • http://bettyrayblogs.blogspot.com/ Katrina

Oohhh, I love the idea of your gift guide. Sadly, I missed last years. Great ideas you have. You are almost like Oprah’s Favorite Things special! :)

      • Phyrra

        Aww thanks :)

I’m glad I chose Canon when I wanted to buy a new camera. It’s been a year now.
Compared to several camera brands, my friends said mine provides the best pictures :)

      • Phyrra

I’m a big fan of Canons, as you can tell :) I tried a Sony once and hated it after 3 months, it just wasn’t up to par for me.

    • Ana

Wait, wait… Day of the Tentacle tentacles :O ?

      I link my friends to this – they’ll love it :) !

      • Phyrra

        Hehehe!
