Murad Clean Scene – A Review

A long time ago (in July), Murad sent me their Clean Scene skincare products for consideration for review. After trying Murad’s Hybrids Skincare products and liking them, I had high expectations with the Clean Scene line.  As you may know from reading my blog, I have sensitive, combination skin. Some things I just CANNOT use or it will cause me to have break outs or leave me oily. I always feel like trying new skincare products can be such a crapshoot with my skin. So anyway, let me tell you about Clean Scene.

Packaging:
The packaging is adorable to me. I love the design! The bright colors against the white packaging is gorgeous. This is probably the best thing about the products to me.

Smell:
The scent is awesome! It smells like yummy berries.

Products:
Craving for Clean – Face Wash – $17
This is a nice enough face wash. It smells divine, but the smell doesn’t linger after you get out of the shower, so you get to enjoy the berry smell while you’re cleansing and then it’s gone. However, after using it for 2 weeks, I found myself going back to my regular cleaner, and I can’t really put my finger on why. It’s not a bad product, I just didn’t find myself reaching for it after tryng it out.

Begging for Balance – Oil Free Moisturizer $22
This is an ok moisturizer, but it didn’t wow me. I don’t like that it lacks SPF. I don’t like putting on 2 moisturizers in the morning time and I want my daily moisturizer to have SPF with it. However, it lacked the icky oily feeling of Down for Defense.

Down for Defense – SPF 15 Moisturizer $24
I really didn’t care too much for this moisturizer. While it didn’t irritate my skin, I don’t like that it’s only SPF 15. It also felt sort of… greasy. I couldn’t stand trying to use it more than a week, it just didn’t feel good to me. I think this is because I have an oily T-zone, so it just seemed to make my chin and forehead icky.

Gaga for Glow – Face Scrub $20
This was a nice scrub but I couldn’t use it more than twice a week because my skin is too sensitive. It reminded me of vanilla icing with sprinkles in it, so it was fun to see and use. I really liked this product the best of all the ones I tried in this line.

Crazy for Clear – Spot Treatment for Zits $16
I do get the occasional zit and I couldn’t get this to work for me. I couldn’t get the ones I had to go away. I also had a friend of mine who has problematic acne try it and she couldn’t get results from it either. So I’m not sure if we were just not using it correctly or what.

Overall:
Unfortunately, I was let down with this line from Murad. I really wanted to love these products. While I LOVE the cute packaging, the products inside only seem ok at best. The best of the bunch for my skin was the Gaga for Glow facial scrub, followed by the Craving for Clean foaming cleanser. However, I wouldn’t recommend the other products in the Clean line, especially at their price, if you have sensitive combination skin like mine.

I do think that Murad makes some great products (my favorites are definitely in their Skincare Hybrids line), so if you’re interested in the brand, I would recommend checking out some of their other products.

PR samples were sent to me for consideration.

That’s the crappy thing with moisturizers with SPF, sometimes it just seems as if a bunch of sunscreen lotion was dumped into a face cream. Like, we could have done that ourselves! I’m not a fan of greasy feeling, my face is oily enough naturally like 10 minutes after washing it. Even UD’s mattifier gel tube stuff doesn’t do much for me a few hours in. I’m cursed pretty much :D
But I have uber respect for you that you do try all these different products! I wouldn’t ever be able to keep track lol

Yeah I don’t like a greasy feel to my moisturizer since I do have some oily spots. Ick.

This looks like a direct rip-off of Dermaologica’s new Clean Start line.

I’ve never had any luck with Murad. I tried one of their AHA (or something) serums and my face broke out and took months to heal. It was awful.

Eek! That’s awful! I’m so sorry to hear it.

Cute packaging. Seems a little expensive for the results, but I’d probably purchase the scrub if it looked like sprinkles :D
