Avon Glimmersticks Brow Pencil in Soft Black – Review

A while back I purchased Avon’s Glimmersticks Brow Pencil in Soft Black because I was looking for an alternative to using Urban Decay’s 24/7 eyeliner in Zero on my eyebrows. I felt like I needed black brows to look right with my blue-black hair.

The Website Claims:
Shapes brows with perfect blendability. Smooth, glide-on color. Long wear (wears up to 12 hours!) Retractable, self-sharpening

The Ingredients are:
CYCLOMETHICONE, PARAFFIN, DIISOSTEARYL DIMER DILINOLEATE, PEG-6 BEESWAX, OZOKERITE, HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL, CERESIN, TOCOPHEROL, RETINYL PALMITATE, ASCORBYL PALMITATE
MAY CONTAIN:
IRON OXIDES, MICA, TITANIUM DIOXIDE, BISMUTH OXYCHLORIDE

Price:
$6 for .01 oz (though I purchased it on sale for $3, it seems to go on sale a lot).

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes. The color Soft Black is a nice black for my brows. It makes them dark and works with my unusual hair color. It is self sharpening and retractable. It does last most of the day. By the end of the night, some will smudge off on my finger tips.

You can see how I think it looks really nice with my hair in this photo.

Would I purchase again?
Yes, though this is not my holy grail product. I do like this product a lot but I wish it had the lasting power of the UD 24/7 pencil on me. But, for a fraction of the cost, it’s totally worth it to me. It’s a good product for the money.

Product purchased by me.  All opinions are my own.

Ive been looking for a good eyebrow pencil in a soft black. Sadly i cant use this cos of Avon’s animal testing lie.( Avon go on about not testing, yeah they dont, they let other people do it for them)
I did have a perfect one by rimmel..but dont use that anymore due to above same issue.

Gah…any companies i can buy from dont do a really good soft black……so i stick to powder and a brush.

When I looked this up online it did say no animal testing. The whole subject of animal testing is confusing because a company can claim to be cruelty free and do no animal testing but they will buy recipes from a company that does animal testing.

If you do want a cruelty free option, the other thing I was doing that worked well was UD’s 24/7 pencil in Zero with a small brow brush.

I follow this list – seems to be clued up on who is genuine and who isnt.

I like UD zero, but find it too dense to create a black eye brow that isnt drawn on too much.

Thank you for the list, Kristen!

It’s just confusing to me because there are multiple sites out there with conflicting information.
Some say Avon tests, others say that Avon does not.

Ah, the way to handle the harshness is like this:
          1. brush your brows into place.
          2. Get an angled brush and run that brush along the Zero eyeliner
          3. take the angled brush and start to brush along your brows to darken them.

This is how I do it so that it’s not too harsh.

Aaaah! You have NO idea how badly I’ve been wanting to see a review of this product. Thank you so much. I like the liners from this line and had high hopes for the brow pencils. But sadly, it sounds like they wouldn’t really last on my oil-slick skin so…thank you for saving me some cash! xo

PS: You look gorgeous as usual!

No problem :) I like this product, I just don’t LOVE this product.

I have used this before but most of my glimmersticks ended up with broken mechanisms. The don’t seem to survive dropping very well. I used to have a cat that believed pencil shaped objects belong on the floor. Add that to me occasionally having a case of dropping things and yeah. I just stopped buying not indestructible enough for this household.

Doh! That sucks! Sometimes stuff gets knocked off my vanity by the guys, but normally it survives. I haven’t dropped this one though.
