I wanted to talk a little about giving back. Some indie companies do this and I really respect them for it. Fyrinnae and BftE Cosmetics are two of the companies that I know that give back in some form.
BftE Cosmetics gives back at the community level. BftE donates to their local library, to the dog pound, to the food pantry, to a church, to The Beauty Movement, to the Russel Child Development group, to the Season of Life Living Center Syracuse, and to the Syracuse Drama Club. All of this in Syracuse, Kansas. Donating on the local level really makes a difference and helps in their community.
Fyrinnae gives back on a global scale. They donate to the World Wildlife Fund to help protect animals and the environment. The WWF works at every level, local to globally to help both people and nature.
Giving back, locally or on a global scale, may be something you already do. Donating to your local church, library, organizations like the WWF or Freecycle will really make a difference to someone, even if it’s not someone you know personally.
Freecycle is particularly neat. If you’ve not heard of it, it’s a site for people to post perfectly good stuff that they have that they no longer need so that others who need it can come and get it. It’s to help keep perfectly good stuff out of landfills. I’ve seen people ‘cycling paint, lawnmowers, bookshelves, fans and other various furniture.
Anyway I just thought on this day, it might be cool to talk about giving back.
Hope you’re all having a wonderful day!

Hello Cotton
You know, I only volunteer once a year – and then because it’s a family tradition (wrapping donated gifts at a shelter) but I really should do more. Then again, I always feel like this after getting a million Christmas presents. Still I do respect companies that give away some of their profits and I think they’re setting a great example!
I think so, too! There are a lot of really good causes out there, and a lot of really cool programs. I mentioned Freecycle because I had never heard of it before I moved to Tampa and I think that’s one that a lot of people can really benefit from, not only by giving but by ‘cycling items.
Giving back is a wonderful thing.
We always find someone for old furniture (we did some major redecorating and decluttering after… erm, probably half a century) and if we don’t, we leave it in front of the yard and somebody’ll ask to take it away or do it on their own.
My mother gave my stroller to a kid that was always carrying around with him his sibling.
– he used the stroller for things.
She says she saw him later, pushing the stroller… and still carrying his sibling with him
aww that’s so sweet!
That’s what I hope to do with my store, like BFTE, finding specialised ways of helping the local community. I’m in no way trying to advertise this but I definitely applaud those who do it for causes from their hearts.
That’s really cool! It makes me happy to hear things like this
