The Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner

You know I’m all about sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners to keep my colored locks vibrant. I recently purchased trial sizes of the Body Shop’s Rainforest Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner. This shampoo and conditioner set are touted as being moisturizing, as well as not having silicones, sulphates, parabens or colorants.

Read on to check out my experience with these products!

So, I wanted to love this shampoo and conditioner set. However, my scalp hated it. And by hated it I mean it flaked horribly like I’d used a shampoo with sulfates. I had to wash my hair twice afterwards to get all the flakes out. It was gross.

I know my face freaks out over Salicylic acid, so I wondered if the Salicylic Acid in this shampoo and conditioner set caused my issue. I contacted an esthetician friend of mine who said it could be the salicylic acid or the proplene glycol. However both of those ingredients are in the L’Oreal Everpure shampoo I use without flakes, but they’re much further down in the list of ingredients.

Would I purchase again?
No. Regardless, this shampoo and conditioner set did not work for me. The flaking on my scalp was horrible. However, I do think if you’re not sensitive to the ingredients in this shampoo and conditioner it may be worthwhile to try. I think most of the ingredients are good and I especially like seeing Honey in the product.

Have you tried this shampoo and conditioner? If so what did you think?

Product was purchased by me for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

    Hi!

There it is, interindividual variability is amazing. This works completelly different on me. I have psoriasis on my scalp, so it usually scales a lot. I have to do treatments every now and then to keep me from looking like I’m snowing. Between treatments I always had a hard time picking a regular shampoo ( I can only use a treatment shampoo once or twice a week or it stops working), since most just agravate my state and cause new lesions just by trying them once! I’ve been using the coloured hair version of this shampoo and conditioner for about 2 months and it’s worderful, no flaking, no irritation, no itching, nada! Best shampoo ever for me.

This is really a case one has to try it to find out whether it works or not.

I don’t normally have flakes at all, unless I use a shampoo with sulfate. For whatever reason, that causes my scalp to flake like crazy.

I’ve heard tea tree shampoos are good for in between treatments?

Yep didnt work for me and i gave it a month. My hair never felt clean and always felt limp and lifeless.
I went back to my Paul Mitchell!

Yuck! A lot of nasties in those products – I’m not surprised you had a reaction!

The Body Shop is disappointing not only because they are owned by L’Oreal who do animal testing, but because they promote ‘natural’ products that are nowhere near natural …

Some of their products I really love, but other ones do kinda let me down.

It’s also really frustrating when trying to research the animal testing issue because some companies don’t test on animals but they buy recipes that are from companies that test on animals. So it’s not very cut and dry.

I don’t know if you’d have the same problem, but the body shop has a shampoo and conditioner made for color treated hair, it’s worked absolute miracals on my hair! I’ve got hot pink in my hair and it hasn’t faded at all, and it’s been about 6 weeks. Good in my book!

I think the ingredients looked similar when I checked, so I probably would. I do love the L’Oreal Everpure and the Tigi Sulfate free Superstar that I have, but I like to try new things for review purposes.

I’m not buying product for a while, but I really like Smooth As Silk by Giovanni. It’s organic, inexpensive, and good on colored hair. It’s practically unscented, which I like- I’m not big on smells. I don’t mind some but unscented is best.

I’m sorry you had such a bad reaction. I’ve been there.

Oh that’s nice! The smell is the one thing I hate about the L’Oreal everpure.
