Sunday evening I touched up the dye in my hair. I hadn’t last touched it up since October 17 and Sunday was December 12 (that’s about 9 weeks!). I didn’t feel up to bleaching my roots, so I went the easy way. I took a section of hair on the left side of my face and put Jerome Russel Punky color in Turquoise on that section and then enclosed it in foil. I took 1/2 a jar of Punky color in Turquoise and 1/2 a jar of Punky color in Midnight Blue and mixed them together and then applied the mixture to the rest of my hair. I left it on for 2 hours and then rinsed my hair until the water ran clean. Then I washed my hair with L’Oreal Everpure shampoo and used Tigi Superstar Sulfate Free Volumizing Conditioner. I think the results were wonderful.
I feel that Sulfate Free shampoo really makes a big difference in my color. The only reason I colored my hair this past Sunday was that my roots were showing, so it needed a touch up. After 9 weeks, only having to touch up because of my roots is not bad at all! I also feel that the colors I’m using by Jerome Russel Punky Color work really well with my hair type. They saturate my hair and the color stays locked in place.
I love it!! Very pretty blue shade!
very pretty! looks great on you
Thank you Basht!
I love the black to blue shift. It reminds me of the Steller’s Jay birds that we have out here, they’re a little hard to spot (they’re shy) but a beautiful sight to behold
Thanks! That’s one of the reasons I love doing midnight blue is that it will look black with deep blue highlights.
Gorgeous! I don’t know how *you* don’t end up turquoise! Even with “protection” everything on my body turned purple during the rinse phase of my last dye job. It was bad enough (my toothbrush is purple for pete’s sake!) that I haven’t dyed since and my roots are getting pretty serious.
Love how your hair is growing out, btw! It looks fantastic!
I just scrub it off.
Really? I scrubbed my brains out and still had serious stainage around my hair line and neck. Maybe I’m really absorbent?
Ugh, I keep looking at these photos of your hair and I’m so jealous! It looks awesome! So you use L’oreal Sulfate Free? Have you tried Ulta’s version? I haven’t used L’oreal’s, but I use Ulta’s (lately, though, I’ve been using something harsher in a desperate attempt to get the water to run clear. I dyed my hair maybe a week before your last dye job and purple is still coming out when I wash!…poor white bathtub) and it seems pretty gentle. I can even lather up the length and it doesn’t seem to cause any damage.
For several years I used the Tigi Superstar Sulfate Free Shampoo & Conditioner (which I still like).
I recently switched to the L’Oreal Everpure Shampoo but am still using the Tigi Conditioner. They’re working well for me. I haven’t tried Ulta’s.
If stuff gets on my face I either use a wash cloth and soap to get it off my face/ears/neck, or if it’s really stuck on, I’ll use my Clarisonic with an old brush head.
But really, I can normally get it to come off. There’s one purple shade that NEVER wanted to come off my skin, but the blues seem fine.
Beautiful. I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do with my hair.
Cut it off or keep it long?
Yay thank you!
How much of a difference does using sulfate free shampoo make with coloured hair? I die my hair black with a purple tint and it fades way too quickly.
I’ve been using Sulfate Free shampoos for years and I feel like it makes a huge difference for me.
I haven’t dyed my hair since Oct 17 until I did it this past sunday Dec 12, that’s 9 weeks. That’s not bad at all to me.
I wash my hair every 5 to 7 days and use a dry shampoo on occasion (usually around day 5 or 6).
Looks great! I need to color my hair, too.
What color, Sarah?
I’m just gonna slap some bleach on there. I’m going platinum, I’m ready for a big change- I’ve had black hair for over a year (with a two-month hiatus when it was green) with little white sections and I’m bored.
I think that sounds awesome! Some day, I wanna try Platinum.
Well I’m naturally blonde and I haven’t colored my hair in three very, VERY long months, so the black dye is nearly gone. I think I can at least get it to pale orange, maybe a dark yellow, without my hair melting off. I might strip it first and then bleach after a few days.
That’s beautiful, love it!
I love that color! I’m jealous. My work doesn’t allow unnatural colors. (Though my hair is about 4 different ‘natural’ colors at the moment, so whatevs!)
Haha, I agree with Sara. How did you not end up different colors s well? No matter how hard I try my neck always ends up tie-dyed.
Heh! I think it’s silly when a job doesn’t allow for it but will allow for natural colors, but some companies are just like that. Ray’s company doesn’t allow for it either.
The dye does rinse off onto my skin in the shower, but I stand under the shower head and wait until my hair rinses clear (or only the slightest tinge of blue to the water) and then I wash it and condition it. While the conditioner sits in, I use my loofah and shower gel and scrub my body to get off most of the blue.
I also make sure I’m wearing a coat of nail polish on my nails, because they will otherwise end up stained.
it looks great on you! pretty!
You make me want to dye my hair purple. I used to have really long hair that refused to get tangled. Then after a bad dye job that screwed up my scalp, I stayed away from dyes ever again.
Now…I kind of want colored hair again haha
Dyes and bleaches have come a long way. I used to be afraid to bleach but not anymore.

Would this work on brown hair and fair skin?
My natural hair color is so dark it’s only a step away from black. I only bleach the front of my hair on occasion. I just put the dark mixture over my natural hair color. So for my hair, it works.
You have such beautiful hair, I love the color!
I’ve been thinking about dying one of my front sections purple and the rest dark brown (as I do now), hopefully it will be safe enough for work. But I’m a little scared of bleaching and doing touch ups, something tells me I will fail miserably.. =)
I used to be scared of bleach, but I slowly started using it on my own. I used to only let a stylist bleach me, but now I feel like I get the sort of results that I want at home and I am always disappointed when I go to a salon to get color done. I hate paying $120 or more for color on my hair, only to have it wash out in 2 weeks, where if I do it at home, my color goes at least 6 weeks or in this case 9 weeks.
I love, love, love your hair, Phyrra! <3
*hides her shameful hair that hasn’t been trimmed or dyed in almost a year*
You hair looks so healthy and the cut is really nice.
But… your post reminded me of this:
“You wanna go out because it’s raining and blowing!
But you can’t go out because your roots are showing!
Dye them black!
Black, black, black, black, numba ooo-ooone!!
She dyes it black!”
<3 Pete Steele u.u,
Hehe, I love that song ;>
Nothing beats sulfate free!
Great color, makes me want to go back to blue…I need a job that lets me be myself.
Aww yeah, blue is fab
Your hair looks lovely, as usual Phyrra:-) I use mostly Punky Color on my hair too. Currently I have bright green hair that I did with a mix of about 25/75 Apple Green/Spring Green to make the green “truer”. I love Punky:-)
aww your green sounds gorgeous!
