Dark Heart Designs – A Review

Recently I had the opportunity to try a mineral makeup company from Etsy called Dark Heart Designs. They’re a relatively new company and they don’t repackage their shades. I was sent 5 colors to try out: Vampire Heart, Toxic, Starstruck, Shudder and Killing Moon.

Shade Descriptions:
Vampire Heart* – deep red
To me, this is definitely a deep red shade

Toxic* – dark, bright pink
To me, this is a raspberry pink shade, very gorgeous, has a lot of red to it

Starstruck – a light silvery blue
To me, this is an icy blue-white, reminds me of moonlight on the snow at night.

Shudder – black with red undertones
To me this looks like a very dark purple with red undertones.

Killing Moon – a medium silver-blue
This is definitely silver=blue, leans metallic, very pretty.

*denotes a non-vegan shadow that contains carmine.

Now, one of the things that I absolutely loved when I received these samples from Dark Heart Designs is that they included a flyer. This flyer has all of their colors listed, along with shade descriptions, as well as contact information for the company and the ingredients listings.

To me, this is fantastic. It’s well organized, it’s easy to read and it’s easy to understand.

The store is currently on Etsy, so it’s easy to navigate and shop. Each individual listing has the ingredients mentioned in the description.

Price:
Shadow Sample Pack $10
Full size Eye Shadows $5.99 for about 1 gram of shadows.
Lip Slicks $5.50 for 4ml of gloss in a 5.9 ml tube.
Shipping is $2.50 in the USA for the first item and no additional charge for the rest of the items. Shipping to Canada and Mexico is $3 for the first item and no additional charge for anything else. Shipping outside of the USA to ‘Everywhere Else’ is $5 and no additional charge, which seems to be a pretty good deal.

Would I purchase from Dark Heart Designs?
Yes. I liked the shadows that I tried. I felt the color descriptions were accurate, the colors were richly pigmented and smooth to apply. I like that the ingredients are clearly labeled, the colors are pretty, and how well organized the company owner seems to be. The prices are reasonable for shipping too.

Products sent for consideration. All opinions are my own.

I really like her stuff, I’ve ordered twice from her in the past. (Killing moon is one of my favorites) All the jars come with both a sifter seal and shrink wrapped. I’ve also tried her slick glosses and they are nice, a little sheer but it’s nice for a light swash of color (I believe they contain stevia for the sensitive)

The only complaint I would have is both times it took over a month for it to get shipped. However she sent a full size eyeshadow and a full size lip slick so it was a nice gesture. :)

I like it when jars arrived shrink wrapped. Less spillage that way.
