e.l.f. Studio Lip Stain Review & Swatches

Recently when I purchased some brushes from e.l.f., I also purchased this Studio Lip Stain in Bombshell to try out. I’ve not purchased any lipstains for a long time, because they tend to just pool in the creases in my lips and not look flattering at all.

The Website Claims:
Achieve full coverage that lasts for hours with this long-wear formula. Enjoy silky matte color or layer on the moisturizing clear gloss for a shiny look. With key Vitamins A & E your lips stay smooth all day long.

You use this by applying the lipstain side to your lips and allowing the product to dry fully. Then you can apply the gloss. Or, you can choose to not apply the gloss.

The Ingredients are:
Lip Stain: Isododecance, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Silica, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Triacontanyl PVP, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopherol.
Gloss: Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Paraffinium Liquidum (Mineral Oil), Methylparaben, Propylparaben.
May Contain: Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides (CI 77491 , CI 77492 , CI 77499), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Red No.7 Lake (CI 15850), Red No.27 Lake (CI 45410), Red No.6 Lake (CI 15850), Blue No.1 Lake (CI 42090), Yellow No.5 Lake (CI 19140), Yellow No.6 Lake (CI 15985).

Price:
$3.00

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes, I think so. On me, it lasted pretty well through me eating at lunch and drinking throughout the day. It lives up to its claims of ‘lasts for hours.’ My lips don’t feel dried out from it. The gloss did make the color slightly darker.

Bombshell comes off as a brown-tinged apricot with slight golden shimmer on me. I purchased it because it’s not normally a color I’d wear and I have nothing like it in the lipstain department. The product does end up feeling slightly tacky after several hours, but this is presumably what helps keep the color around.

Would I purchase again?
Yes. For $3 it’s a good price on a product that works as advertised. If there’s a shade you like, I’d definitely say give it a try.

Product purchased by me. All opinions are my own.

I like the gold sparkle! I’ve got one of these, it seems more like a liquid lipstick than a stain to me.

This actually worked a lot more like a sheer indelible lipstick than a stain, on me anyway. The color sat on top of my lips, instead of sinking in and actually staining them. Which is not to say that most “stains” actually stain my lips, because oddly, they don’t. Just saying this feels and applies more like a long wear than a stain. For the price, I didn’t mind them at all!

I have these in Red Carpet and First Date, I love them! Red Carpet is so opaque and First Date just brightens up your face. I wish they made them in more colors.
