Alpha Hydrox Retinol ResQ Review

A long while ago, like back in January, I purchased several Alpha Hydrox products. One of the products I purchased was the Alpha Hydrox Retinol ResQ. I was rather nervous about trying a Retinol product because of how fickle my skin can be, but I figure at the very worst, I could try it and stop it if it caused problems.

Combines the anti-oxidant benefits of topical Vitamins A, C and E

The Ingredients are:
Water, Capric/Caprylic Stearic Triglyceride, Emulsifying Wax, Glycerin, C10 30 Cholesterol/Lanesterol Esters, Cetyl Ricinoleate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Benzyl Alcohol, Cyclomethicone, Retinal, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Acrylates Copolymer, Bisabolol (L-Alpha), PEG 10 Soy Sterol, Magnesium Aluminium Silicate, Stearic Acid, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, BHT, Disodium EDTA, Propyl Gallate, Polysorbate 20, Triethanolamine

Price:
$15.39 for 1.05 oz at Drugstore.com

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes. I think my skin has been looking amazing since I started using it back in January/February. I feel like it has reduced imperfections in my skin and helped even my skintone out a bit, as well as making my face just look clearer overall. I’ve been rather impressed. I started out using it twice a week and I worked up to using it every day for a while and have toned down to using it every 2 or 3 days. I only use it at night. I don’t get it ANYWHERE near my eyes. It only goes on my face and neck. I do wait about 5 minutes and then put on a moisturizer so that my skin gets the benefits of the Retinol.

Would I purchase again?
Yes. I’m happy with the results I’ve gotten with Retinol ResQ and since I’ve had no adverse reactions with it I’m going to stick to it for now. It’s also a very good buy at the price, since it’s just over an ounce for $15.39 and you can often find 20% off sales at Drugstore.com on skincare.

What’s your favorite Retinol product? Have you tried Retinol ResQ by Alpha Hydrox?

My favorite retinol product is my plain old prescription tretinoin. No frills, does its job. =]

I’ve never gone to get a prescription.

Gotta be honest, I’ve never tried any form of retinol. I’ve seen a dermatologist regularly since I was 16, and she never once recommended it–so I never went near it. I trust that if I needed it, she’d prescribe it (or at least tell me where to get some). Not that I always listen to her (if I did, I’d be using Cetaphil and Neutro–two brands I won’t use on principle), but she insists I’m just too young to start a retinol treatment and I’m going to have listen.

On another note, ever see the Indonesian Tree Man? Apparently, they used a very high-dose retinol to treat the virus that causes him to look like a tree. Pretty amazing stuff.

    Glad it’s working for you!

My dermatologist also advised me to stay away from retinol products due to rosacea :(

Cin, thanks for mentioning that! I’ve recently started Metrocream for my rosacea, but I’m old enough to need Retin-A. I’d better hold off on trying anything until I talk to my doctor.

You can’t use the Retin around the eyes though, from what all I can tell.
