Last month I purchased some eye shadow samples from Linneaus Cosmetics. They’re a relatively new company on Etsy. I’d seen them advertising on my blog and the owner, Marin, had emailed me to say hi. I chose the sample pack of 5 shadows, and Marin threw in an extra sample and a full size so that I could see how she packages her full size shadows. Marin is very interesting as she’s working on a career in veterinary medicine and wildlife conservation, as she loves animals in addition to makeup. A girl after my own heart!
Price:
$5.00 for a full size shadow, Samples are $5 for 5 or $10 for 10. $2.50 for shipping and $.10 for each additional item.
While one color did give me a bit of trouble (applied patchy), I did give Marin feedback and she researched what could cause the problem. The rest of the colors I tried from her I had no problem. When I tried the color again, I didn’t have an issue. However, I do appreciate that she took feedback without any fuss, and was very helpful with it.
The packaging for the samples were very generous amounts of products. The full size product came shrink wrapped, which prevented any spillage. Marin was also kind and included some doggie biscuits for Phaedra & Max! She says it’s something she does for any clients that she knows has pets. I thought it was really sweet.
The ingredients for the shadows are listed in each individual listing. One thing I did notice is that they don’t have the INCI numbers listed, but they do annotate if they’re vegan or not (and I think they’re all vegan that I checked). Each listing also tells the story of the eye shadow name and what inspires it, which is a nice touch. I believe that once Marin moves everything to her new site (off of Etsy), they will have INCI numbers listed.

Would I purchase again?
Yes. I think the sample sizes are generous and the full size prices are reasonable. The colors are pretty and the textures overall are good. The shadows apply easily and I will certainly purchase more if there are shades that I see that catch my attention.

I don’t know what I love more, Marin or her line! I was extremely happy with the shadows I ordered as well as the customer service. Not to mention all the work she does with animals: as an animal rescue volunteer and a vegan, I really appreciate her efforts to educate and help animals.

I’ve been lurking her products. I’ve read a few reviews and love that you can see the quality of the shadows in her swatches. I’m thinking if I see a color or two that I cannot live without, I’ll just have to place an order.

I bought 5 samples from her not too long ago, and I LOVE the ones I have. I bought Bouffant, Cliff Line, Kalahari, Sprightly, and Zippy. She included Matriarch which I adore using with Bouffant.

I loved my Linnaeus samples and ended up getting the Brush Tailed Rock Wallaby collection for myself, as well as full sizes of the sample colors I ordered as gifts for my sister. One of the heat shrink seals on my full-size jars was a little wonky and a tiny bit spilled in transit, and Marin apologized profusely for it when I told her. She was also totally willing to create a custom listing for me, combine my shipping when I added the extra colors for my sister, and include a few extra samples to offset the additional shipping charges. Wonderful communication, very considerate and sweet!
