Last night’s adventure in DIY hair is why people go to cosmetology school. I had an experiment that went awry.
I wanted to take my Manic Panic Vampire Red & Hot Hot Pink hair and deepen it to a blackened cherry/blackened burgundy.
I took 1 bottle of Jazzing Black Cherry & 1/2 bottle of Jazzing Bluest-Black, mixed together, and applied it liberally on my hair. I put a cap on and I processed with heat for about 25 minutes.
This is where things went weird. Where the Hot Hot Pink was in my hair, it turned a BEAUTIFUL gorgeous blackened cherry shade. Where the Vampire Red was… it looked blonde-beige-pink-brown. Yes, it was LIGHTER in places. I have no idea what caused this.
Anyway, to fix the travesty that I had caused my hair, I looked through my collection of hair dye. I have a LOT of different colors, by the way, mostly Manic Panic and Jerome Russel Punky color. I decided to take a jar of Jerome Russel Punky color in Rose Red and Manic Panic Black & Blue. I mixed 1 full jar of Rose Red with 1/4 jar of Black & Blue.
In the past I used to mix 1/4 jar of Black & Blue, 1/4 jar of Ultra Violet, and 1/2 jar of After Midnight Blue for some amazing results.
I wasn’t sure exactly how my hair would end up turning out, but it had to be better than the pink-beige-blonde-brown mess.
I applied the color, capped it and applied heat for 20 minutes.
I ended up with Blackened Purple. It’s absolutely gorgeous, and I feel very lucky it turned out so well after the mess I made with the Jazzing.
The purple is super subtle and the black looks really nice and lustrous. I really got lucky.
Ug and I’m STILL getting the dye stains from the Jerome Russel Punky color off of my scalp and my skin. Gotta exfoliate the heck out of my body again.
I thought you all would enjoy seeing that experimenting with hair can have disastrous results, but you can sometimes make a nice recovery. And last night, I made a nice recovery.
So tell me, have you had any hair mishaps? How did you recover? What did you do to fix things?
