OHWTO Black Magic Soap Review

Late last year I received some samples of Black Magic Soap to try out. One Hand Washes The Other is the creator of the ORIGINAL Black Magic soap.

The Website Claims:
Claims to be used to clean your face, not too drying or too oily.

I have to say that I love how the description is written up for each ingredient in the soap, as well as listing what is generally believed that each ingredient does, but that the soap doesn’t claim to do all of those things.

Ingredients:
saponified oils of coconut palm and safflower, glycerine, purified water, sorbitol, sorbitan oleate, soy bean protein, french green clay, activated charcoal, tea tree, grapefruit, lemongrass rosemary and peppermint essential oils, vitamin e, calendula

This is vegan.

Price:
$1.25 for .5 oz sample, $5.25 for 4 oz.

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes, and then some. This is a soap that I feel is calming on my face if my skin is freaking out. If I’ve got a zit, it will help remedy it. The scent reminds me of peppermint or licorice (and while I’m not a fan of anise or licorice), I rather like this scent. Additionally, I know when Ray starts using a cleanser, it’s gotta be good because he rarely varies from his routine and he loves this stuff. To be honest, I am not generally a fan of bar soap or cleanser for any part of the body, but I like Black Magic so much I don’t mind it.

Would I purchase?
Yes. In fact, I’ve purchased in another form! I think this is an amazing facial cleanser that Becca has come up with and I do think that it is well worth it to give it a try.

Samples sent for consideration. All opinions are my own.

I love this soap so much so that i have ordered five bars. I don’t want to run out while she closes shop to move.

She’s closing the shop to move??? OMG I need to find out for how long. I should be good for another 4 months with my current bar though. It seems to last for ages and I use it every day too.

I’ve been planning on trying OHWTO for a while, but I have no idea what to start with. It was great to read this review. I may try one of these, as I’m running out of cleanser anyway.

Wait until you see tomorrow’s review on the cream version :)

I may need to try this, I haven’t really settled on any kind of routine and I am not dedicated to any particular product right now. I’m pretty much throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks right now.

Black Magic seems fairly inexpensive, though, and I like that you can buy samples. (Except they’re out right now! Oh no!)

I’ve heard so many good things about this soap, I’ll have to suck up the shipping and order some!

I’ve been wondering how thsi stuff works on dry skin. I definitely need help in the T-zone and the occasional cheek zit, but I’m not sure if it’ll work for me as a daily cleanser. Still though, for the price, it wouldn’t make me broke to try. I’ve heard so many great things about this especially in cream form!

My cream form review is tomorrow :>

I’ve heard of black soaps from other companies but because this is vegan and I like the ingredient list, I’ll probably order from this company once I get paid this week. I’m excited to try a soap that has charcoal in it.

I hope you love it as much as I do :)

Literally just bought the cream one after seeing your review :) I was eyeing up the bar last year, but including UK shipping it just didn’t seem worth it. Glad they have another version now!

I’ve been hearing a lot about this stuff lately, when I get some money I’ll have to try it out.

My adorable little sample bar isn’t even half gone and I’ve ordered the full-size bar. I haven’t heard as much about the cream version, so I’ll be looking forward to your review tomorrow, might have to place another order, darn. So glad to hear that it works with your sensitive skin, works nicely on my oily skin too!

I like the bar version better than the cream version, just personal preference. But in any form it is by far the best face wash I’ve used, you can tell when I’ve run out because my skin isn’t nearly as clear! I bought the little breakaway bar kind so I can give little pieces to everyone and get them hooked on it too :D

Ooh yay! A soap review! And I like that it’s made from nice natural ingredients. I was at my wits’ end in regard to my skin a few years ago, then stopped using any sulfate products on my face whatsoever and it’s amazing how soft, non-flaky, non-irritated, and clearer my skin is. I might have to try this soap.

    • Phyrra May 4, 2011 at 10:55 pm #

I had to stop using sulfate on my scalp because it will flake horribly if I do, so I know what you mean.

I have been using Black magic soap for several months now. I love it!!!! I prefer the bar version, but that is because I love the bubbles lol. I always make sure to order a few extras when I place an order so I can hand them out to people to try. I have converted my mom, sister, both my daughters, and a few friends. They all agree that this is one of the best soaps they have used.

I love black magic! I have the tube for the shower and the bar for the sink at night. I ordered another bar for when she needs to close. Very tempted to grab a few but I have a huge chunk of lush coal face I need to use too lol, that beyotch was like $20, I HAVE to use it hahahah

I’ve never heard of black soaps before…I’m intrigued (esp since the price is so great!)…vegan ingredients as wel! AWESOME

I have both cream and bar versions. I adore the cream version, it is very calming for when my face gets unruly. The bar version, I don’t tend to use as much– like heather, i like getting other people hooked so i give them to friends and family.

    • Phyrra May 4, 2011 at 10:52 pm #

      I like that plan :)

I’ve yet to try the cream version because I love the bars so much. I’ve been using it for about a year now and I love it – a bar lasts forever, especially if you cut it into fourths like I do (or ask Becca to do :P ). I use it almost daily but because my skin will sometimes bounce between oily and super dry, depending on various factors, I do occasionally swap it out for a more moisturizing type of cleanser. HOWEVER, I don’t ever, ever want to be without my Black Magic. It leaves my face super clean, balanced, and I adore the way it smells.

In a pinch, I’ve also used it to wash my hair and bathe my dog. ;) I actually 100% support that second option – it kills any fleas that manage to get on her while we’re outside, calms her itchy allergy skin and leaves her smelling way better than a wet dog should smell. It’s the only thing I use to wash the pup now.

I would have never thought about bathing Phaedra with it! Though she’d take a huge bar.

I bought this in sample size with my last order and I love it! My skin feels so soft after I use it (much like her whipped scrub)!

      Awesome :)
