Evil Shades Spectrum Pots

Recently I had the opportunity to try out the new product from Evil Shades, the Spectrum Pots. These colors are swatched on bare skin with no primer.

Visible Violet – Gamut Blue – Photonic Green – Nano Yellow
Pink Prysm – Copper Reflection

The Website Claims:
Spectrum Pots are a wax based pigmented eye color with a slightly sticky texture to hold glitter & shimmer on the lid. They are water resistant (not rub proof). Spectrum pots intensify eyeshadow when applied over. They are made with no oils however as with any eye base each persons skin will hold them differently depending on skin type and texture.

These are not a gel liner, the texture is waxier, more like an eyeliner or sticky base. They apply best with a stiff angled liner brush, sponge tip applicator or cotton swab.

Ingredients:
Cyclopentasiloxane (and) C30-45 Alkyl Cetearyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, dimethicone, Ozokerite Wax, Emulsifying Wax NF, Glycine Soybean Lipds, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Silicon Dioxide, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Vitamin E, Salix Nigra (Willow) Bark Extract, Polyaminopropyl Biguanide

Spectrum Pots:
Gamut Blue: Royal Blue with subtle pink shimmer
Photonic Green: Bright light green with aqua sparkle
Nano Yellow: Shimmering sunshine yellow
Pink Prysm: Hot carnation pink with silver shimmer
Visible Violet: Red toned violet with subtle blue and pink sparkle
Copper Reflection: Coppery brown with soft green shifting shimmer

Price:
$4.50 Each 3 gram jar contains 6.5 grams .24 oz. by weight of product.

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes, I think so. The colors are really lovely. I found myself inexplicably drawn to Copper Reflection, which I normally would have thought was too warm toned for my eyes. I LOVED Pink Prysm and Visible Violet. I thought Nano Yellow and Photonic Green were captivating. The only color that I wasn’t too wowed by was Gamut blue. I applied these to my skin with cotton swabs, but for doing makeup looks, I would recommend using a primer first if you have oily eyelids like I do, then applying a spectrum pot, and then eye shadow on top.

Would I purchase?
Yes. I wasn’t able to test the wear of these as much as I’d like, but I really do like the colors offered. Copper Reflection really does have gorgeous green shimmer in it. Pink Prysm is a lot of fun, and Visible Violet is really intense. I almost felt like Photonic Green glowed, it is such a fun green. Nano Yellow is really pretty, and anyone who loves yellows will want it to help intensify yellow eye shadows.

Product samples sent for consideration. All opinions are my own.

I have Visible Violet and Photonic Green. So far I’ve only swatched them, but I can tell they are going to make excellent bases. Photonic Green is especially exciting.

Could you please write about how these things work out on your eyelids (after you try it out)?

I have oily eyelids too and because of them the NYX Jumbo Pencils crease on me even though I apply them on primed (TFSI) eyelids, so I’d really like to know if these are any better. Thanks.

I have the SAME problem with the nyx jumbo pencils. Unless I apply them very very carefully, patting with my finger tip, on top of TFSI, they’ll crease. If I apply them slightly too thick, they’ll crease.

Yep, as soon as I can wear some brights, I’ll try these and report back.

No matter whose swatches I look at the color doesn’t seem to be completely even, so I’m a little skeptical.

I used a cotton swab (q-tip), but i think it will apply differently with finger tips or a flat concealer brush. I really think you’d love the purple :)

I bought the photonic green when these first came out, and yes it is truly amazing and unique, I where it alone over a primer and the wear is fantastic! I love the glossy look it has when worn alone. I think copper refection will be my next purchase, the swatch of this is beautiful!

      oops..wear not where!

I need to try these with a stiff brush – I used a wet/dry brush and my swatches were a bit uneven.

I was guessing they’d be better with a finger tip on the eyelid, but I used cotton swabs for swatching.

  12. EvilAngel July 25, 2011 at 8:48 pm #

Honestly, I use my finger t apply them and since I mostly use them as a base it works better for me than any other method. If I use themas a liner I put a little on the back of my hand (that is my artists palette for all makeup) and smoosh it with a stiff liner brush and then it glides on far better.
That is what works for me anyway. :o )

    • Phyrra July 30, 2011 at 4:20 pm #

I was guessing that finger tips on the lid would work well :)

I was a bit worried that my Visible Violet was a little dried out because it arrived with the lid slightly unscrewed, but it applies on me just how it looks in your swatch. :) I really want to try Nano Yellow and Photonic Green, as well as some of the new shades.
