Deceptions – An Etsy Review

After reading all of the Parasol Protectorate novels, and seeing the lovely Grey’s numerous posts with octopus themed jewelry, I decided I needed a pair. However, I don’t have my ears stretched so I decided to look for some fake gauges on Etsy. This is where a new (to me) etsy store came in… Deceptions.

Purple Auqa Tentale Earrings – $18

Teal Innocence Earrings – $14

Shipping was $3, which I found to be quite reasonable.

They arrived wrapped up quite securely in layers of bubble wrap.

Arrival Time:
I ordered on July 27th and I received the earrings on August 19. The turn around time is 7 to 20 days, and when I ordered, it was right when the owner was preparing to graduate from college. She still managed to ship out the earrings to me within the 20 day window and I received them a few days after that.

The owner was really nice and responded to my email message letting me know the status of my order, which I appreciated. I contacted her on August 10th around 8pm and got a response back on August 12 at 12:30am, so just a little over 24 hours.

The earrings themselves are made of non-toxic polymer clay, and hypo allergenic silver earrings and covered in gloss. I was a bit nervous about pulling them apart to wear them the first time, but because they’re quite sturdy, there were no issues. They’re relatively light despite their size, and they’re really comfortable to wear.

Would I order from Deceptions again?
Absolutely! I love my earrings! The tentacles are exactly what I was looking for. They’re so cute. I think I’m going to have to order a pair for Ray, as he’s been looking at the teal pair and likes them.

Products purchased by me. All opinions are my own.

Those are so cool I think I may order a pair myself. :) Thanks for the review because I probably would have never thought to look for fake gauge earrings.

        You’re welcome Susan :)

Wow, I read the name of the post several times, and it just kept registering as “Decepticons”. #TooEarly

      • Phyrra

Heheh! I like your version of the title though.

These are awesome! I don’t have stretched ears but I love the look of these types of plugs. All the ones I’ve had before are a bit pooey quality-wise so I may have to cheekily check this site out.

      • Phyrra

These are really nice, in my opinion :) glad you like the looks of them.

Those first earrings, are perfection. I think I’m going to get the dark rainbow pair.
I’ve yet to collect parts 4 and 5 of the Parasol Protectorate novels, looking forward to reading them.

      • Phyrra

The dark rainbow looks awesome! And I think you will be pleased with the books :)

    • Sophie

Those tentacles ones are friggen awesome. I feel like I have to buy a pair now, I really want them haha!

      • Phyrra

Yay glad you like them Sophie!

Wow! That looks pretty cool! =D

      • Phyrra

        I think they’re neat Vijaya :)

    • Tina

Thanks for posting. I remember when Grey posted a picture, but not how it looked in her ear. I had a hard time seeing what it would look like. Those are cool!

      • Phyrra

        You’re welcome Tina!

Oh wow! I love those! Especially the purple ones, those are amazing. Definitely heading over there right now.

How freaking adorable!!! I saved their site to my faves, I think I NEED tentacle earrings (yes I love Davy Jones LOL).

Thanks for the recommendation! A new lemming. *happy sigh*

      • Phyrra

Heheh! I think they’re adorable too.

I love the tentacle ones! I don’t think I would like gauged earrings on myself (I have small ears to begin with and my second holes are quite close to my first) but the style is totally up my alley.

      • Phyrra

I couldn’t stretch past 10 as it bugged my ears too much, but I love the gauged look.

    • Sara

………………I need these. Thanks (or not – says my wallet) for reviewing them!!

      • Phyrra

        You’re welcome Sara!

I’m not a tentacle girl (that sounds so wrong), but I like the non-tentacle designs in her shop! I’ve just hearted like a half dozen pairs to go back and buy later. The look of plugs without having to actually stretch my lobes? I’m in!

      • Phyrra

ROFL! I know I know! Ray and Dave were making tentacle, hentai and Cthulhu jokes!

Those are so cute!! I used to have my ears gauged, but let them go back down to “normal” about three years ago. I miss it a lot but these cute “fake” gauges would be fantastic!

      • Phyrra

Yep, they’re perfect for gauges without the commitment!

    • http://geekfaerie.blogspot.com Geek Faerie

They are too cool! I am going to have to add them to my Etsy shop faves. Love how cute the tentacle pair looks. :D

      • Phyrra

Glad you like them too, Geek Faerie :)

Those are awesome! I haven’t had my ears pierced in years, but I am seriously going to go and get them re-done just so I can get some tentacles.

      • Phyrra

        They are so much fun!

    • Tracy

Love these!!! I just checked out the store and am going to have to have the purple swirl ones and the good old black and grey tentacles!!! They are so cute! Thanks for sharing.

      • Phyrra

        I know! They’re so cute!

    • Skulda

They are fake large-gauge earrings. A Gauge is the measurement of the jewellery you can fit in your piercing. The tentacles look pretty awesome.

      • Phyrra

        They are soooo cool!

Great review! There’s a store that Heartsy featured a while back that had cheater plugs, and I’ve been dying to get a pair! I’m sad I missed the voucher, but I plan on getting them any who :)

I love the first ones! I think this medium is much better for fake gauges than ones that actually go inside your ear. I made a ton of 2 gauge spirals for myself in all different colors last year, but I couldn’t find a glaze that didn’t wear off quickly when inside your ear.

This almost makes me wish my ears weren’t gauged! I wonder how they’d look in my third holes. :D

      • Phyrra

They make them in real gauges too!

Thank you for posting this! I have a few pairs of fake plugs but they screw together which can result in them being either too loose or too tight. They irritate my ears so I stopped wearing them. These look much better and I love the tentacles! So cute! I’m wondering if I could get my husband to wear them too. :-)

      • Phyrra

Ray stole the blue pair of spirals :P So maybe?
