Quite a Surprise!

I have an unexpected surprise for you! The original Aromaleigh site has reopened to clear out classic products. While some things have been sold on Dormant Dream, it will be easier for you to shop on the original Aromaleigh site. Dormant Dream will have creative services offered through it.

In addition to that surprise, and here’s the part that I’m personally excited about, Aromaleigh V.2 will be opening in the near future under new management! Kristen will be working as a creative consultant and head of product formulation for the new owner. The changed Aromaleigh will have a fresh, innovative product line. They’re very excited for what the future holds, as the original Aromaleigh began over 13 years ago. With all the amazing, improved pigments available now, the cutting-edge product lines will be sure to impress.

To conceive this new product line, they will be setting up a series of polls because they value your input and want you to help tailor the makeup to suit your needs. These polls will help the new team understand what you desire out of the new Aromaleigh. They look forward to creating with everyone!

In the meantime, checkout will be through Aromaleigh.com. Aromaleigh.com will be open to both US and international customers! International shipping will be offered for orders $30 and under, via First Class Mail.

I can’t tell you how excited I am by all of this. You know how much I love Aromaleigh.

YAY to this! I have been using up the last of my foundation I got when Kristen closed the shop. I have used nothing but her mineral powder and blush on my face for ten years and was devastated (read: what am I going to use now?) when she went out of business. Welcome back, I am SO HAPPY about this!

OH THANK GOD. I have seriously not bought hardly any makeup since Aromaleigh had shut down. A few bits and bobs from my Mary Kay lady, but otherwise… I can’t even tell you how freakin much I missed AL.

OMG! Very interesting news! I would really love to see the Gothic Lolita collection again, but I’m happy to wait and see what does happen.

    • Phyrra October 2, 2011 at 6:35 pm #

Keep a look out for the polls on the Aromaleigh site. I’m sure the new owners would like to hear that sort of feedback. Gothic Lolita, Lost in Faerie and Wonderstruck were my favorite collections, though I think I liked at least 2 or 3 colors from every release :)

That is truly amazing and happy news! I was thinking a few weeks ago how I truly missed the new collections/shadows that would have been rolled out over the last year had Aromaleigh still been in business. Kristen’s shadows were utterly gorgeous and she had such a keen eye for color and detail! Can’t wait to see what V 2.0 brings! :D My holy grail non-shadow item was Nocturne. I hope new management brings that back as I have looked far and wide but have yet to find a satisfactory alternative (though I did read somewhere that Meow had a similar product in the pipeline with an undetermined completion schedule).

Welcome back, Aromaleigh! We missed ya! :)

    • Phyrra October 2, 2011 at 6:36 pm #

I’m really curious to see what sort of new product lines they’ll roll out, as well as what they’ll keep from the Aromaleigh classic product lines. I agree with you, Kristen’s eye for color is amazing.

This is great news! Unfortunately, I was a bit late to the minerals bandwagon, or at least it took me a while to branch out and shop around at indie stores, so I’ve never tried anything from Aromaleigh. But I have seen so many interesting swatches of their products and i have always wanted to try their glissade foundation. Maybe the new store will offer the glissade formula in some incarnation. I can’t wait to see the new site!

Aromaleigh is actually my first Indie cosmetic purchase EVER (and the one who sucked me down to the vortex of infinite make up purchase XD ). I’m really excited to hear the news, although seeing that I bought A LOT of stuff from them during their closing sale, I’m not sure I’d need to buy MORE. I know I will anyway. 8′D

This makes me so happy. I hope they bring Glissade back. 2L was my perfect color match and I can’t find it in any other mineral company. I also hope Miss K takes a step back and allows the new management to be the “face” of the company, so she won’t be sucked back into the stress. I’m thrilled to hear she’ll still have a hand in the creation of the product though.

      You’re welcome eight!

  26. Sara October 3, 2011 at 1:20 pm #

I actually….don’t care. My experience with Aromaleigh was one time, about eight or so years ago, and it wasn’t very good. The customer service was shit and as it was my first indie cosmetics company purchase I waited a *very* long time before trying someone else. It only took one time to burn me on her and then all the years of drama and poor reviews I read online definitely kept me away, even after she started releasing shadow collections that sounded decent. Unfortunately, I later discovered that a few of the samples I’d received in that first order were simply repackaged shades so…..yeah, I don’t understand the fangirl attitude a lot of people have for Aromaleigh. They must have had wildly different experiences than me and the other people with poor customer service reviews.

Then again, I had a rocky transaction with Cocoapink’s original owner, but gave them a shot after the reopen. It was like night and day between the insanity and drama to an actual business. So maybe if Aromaleigh is truly opening under a new person and the reviews come back positive I *might* give them another shot. Frankly, though, that first time left such a bad taste in my mouth…I don’t know.

    • sarah October 3, 2011 at 6:57 pm #

Really? I never had anything but good customer service from them. The only company I’ve bought from that actually gave me poor customer service was Archetype. I’ve not received *TWO* packages from them.

You really should give them another shot, at least once they really get going again. The product is too good to pass on, or at least the eyeshadows are (that’s all I have experience with, admittedly).

I never knew about the negative reviews until after the company was closing and people were mentioning them. I really didn’t even know about the company until they announced the closing and I read about it on a blog, so what do I know?

      • Sara October 4, 2011 at 11:39 pm #

Yeah, I was a member of the BPAL forum for about six years, actually heard about Aromaleigh initially from them. There were some interesting reviews and talk there. I don’t think I ever read anything negative until some time had passed with my order. Also I don’t think makeup alley has been kind to Aromaleigh either. At least, not five years ago. Like I said, I got burned a long time ago and haven’t gone back. Nothing turns me off faster than having customer service basically shrug and say “sorry man, bollocks to you.” (not the exact phrasing, obviously, but I no longer have the original emails and there was more than enough snotty “well, we’re sorry we can’t help you and aren’t willing to try and remedy the situation so….” to turn me off).

I did have problems with Archetype too, even though I really loved their shadows. Frankly, judging Archetype against the Aromaleigh samples from back in the day, Archetype’s were clearly superior. But there was too much inconsistency. Neither of my two orders went missing or had items left out, but I also wasn’t going to push my luck either – and they did take between two and three months to arrive. Much as I want full sizes of certain things, I won’t risk the hassle of paypal disputes. I’ve also ordered many times from Fyrinnae and, once I got pixy epoxy, find their shadows to be quite brilliant. So then it’s just a matter of “how many eyeshadows do I really need from all these different indie companies??” Which puts Aromaleigh, who I’ve already had a bad experience with, pretty far down on the “to try” list.

Not sayin’ it couldn’t happen…but I appreciate you commenting in a friendly way. :) I have gotten some flack in the past for giving my honest opinion. Not tryin’ to harsh on them (though when things were still fresh back in the day I definitely, probably, most likely went overboard in my early comments), but I do think honesty should be given, you know? I would want to know both the good and the bad possible outcomes when ordering from a new company, as well as the chances for either.

    • Phyrra October 3, 2011 at 7:17 pm #

I’m so sorry you had an awful experience with Aromaleigh :(

I do think that with new management, things will be different.

As far as I know, Aromaleigh never sold repackaged collections, but they did sell the Pure Hues line, which was unblended and for making your own colors.

I just placed my first cocoapink order over a week ago, so I’m curious to see how things will go with that.

      • Quinctia October 4, 2011 at 3:35 am #

I’ll be very interested to hear your review on Cocoa Pink. I was just thinking about them the other day, it seems like the reopen for them has done well. I only heard about the company right when there was issues with the first ownership. It’s a shame, because I was looking into alternative hair care as I became a bit scent sensitive. I had no interest in ordering from them then, but I did hear they changed hands.

I have found some instore lines that work for me, but if they are doing well with the new ownership, I doubt I’ll be able to resist the allure of picking my own scent for haircare!

        • Phyrra October 8, 2011 at 10:07 pm #

I ordered on Sept. 25, so I’m looking forward to it getting here.

What went on with the first owner?

      • Sara October 4, 2011 at 11:50 pm #

I did have some of the pure hues, and don’t remember much from the site layout at that time, but don’t actually recall there being anything about mixing them. They were sold (my impression) as pure, rich jewel colors for those who wanted bolder eyeshadow colors. Again, that was eight bloody years ago, I’m sure the site underwent many different format and wording changes over that span of time. And I only vaguely paid attention to the talk about the repackaging and the safety information concerning some of the lines.

Oh sweet, you ordered from CP? During the sale, I take it? The turn-around-time is going to be a bit longer than normal (duh. :P I’m going nuts over here that my order number hasn’t popped up yet on the homepage), but I’ve got my fingers crossed you like everything you get and have a good experience. I’ve decided that using the whole package deal: princess poo, shine sweetie, rubbing some solid junket, and glissade makes my hair crazy amazing – seriously I was stopped by multiple people every single time I went the “whole nine” with it……but….my scalp is really sensitive to shampoos and unfortunately as gentle as the princess poo is, I got itchy scalp about three shampoos in. If I mixed it up then it was ok, but in the end decided not to order more shampoo. Still on the search there. However, the conditioners are the best I’ve ever used and while Glissade has this vague “well, what does it do really?” quality, I always use it after every wash as a kind of leave-in all over my hair. I look forward to reading about your experience with them.

So yeah, full of wordiness tonight. :)
