Blackberry

For my NaBloPoMo Nov. 11, I’m going to go into detail about today’s salon experience. I was at the salon from around 5:45 pm until 8:30 pm (though the last half hour I was waiting for Sara to finish with her last client, which wasn’t too bad at all). Ray went with me, as he got his hair cut, too.

This evening I went to get my hair cut and colored by Lori, my lovely stylist as Cameo salon. I also had the talented Sara adjust my extensions and rearrange them a bit. To deal with the mess left on my hair from L’Oreal Feria Midnight Collection Violet Soft Black she custom blended 2 fashion shades together (I think in the Redken permanent line), to closely match my mix of darkest auburn and black extensions that are on my right side. She used different levels of developer since my roots were lighter and didn’t have the permanent color on them, but my ends were black. The results from her concoction was nothing short of a miracle as I now have dark hair with pinot noir tones, in a hue I dub blackberry.

My extensions on both sides were rock solid and did not want to come out. However, I needed to have the front two extensions adjusted. I also wanted to have the pink moved from where it was hanging out towards the back of my hair to the middle of the purple section. Sara nimbly moved my extensions around, though one of them gave her trouble and we ended up not putting it back in. I’m starting to get really hooked on extensions.

My extensions, in case I didn’t explain it before, are the sort that are on rings/beads, similar to the B Cocky Cocktail feathers that you see people wearing. They can be adjusted as your hair grows, so you can keep the same extensions for several months. I personally think this is awesome, especially if you do not happen to change your hair style or color very often. However, even if you do, they can still work with what you like, as you can probably tell by mine. I had mine trimmed into a new shape, since I’m still growing my hair out.

I was thoroughly amused as Lori and several other stylists who were there didn’t realize that the right side of my hair was extensions! They thought it was my natural hair (as have several of my friends and other people, too)! They weren’t there the day Sara first installed my extensions. Wow, it was only about 2 weeks ago, on October 30th! Everyone complimented Sara on the great job she did, myself included.

Lori dusted the ends of my hair that were dead, then shaped an asymmetrical fringe for me. She also snipped the right side of my hair to blend it with the back, giving me an A-line shape. After Sara re-arranged the extensions on my left side, she whittled those extensions a bit, maintaining the longer length on my left side, but also helping the hair to be connected to the back.

I’ve been really happy with the extensions so far! Compared to when I had extensions before in 2009, these are so much more comfortable! Before, I had them glued in with Proclaim Dark Super Bond Hair Glue, which got itchy after a while. These are much smaller amounts of hair, strategically placed on rings. They’ve not come out despite being tugged (by the stylists), washed or slept on. I feel pretty secure with them in!

You really only need 2 extensions for a pop of color. If you just want more volume added to your hair, they’re great for that, too. I think you’d only need maybe 6 or 8 strategically placed around the head to give you more volume.

Needless to say, I’m a big fan of the ring type extensions. I’m also in love with my new hair color, Blackberry, as well as my new cut.

What do you think of the color? I’ll try to get a better picture of it in direct sunlight soon. What do you think of the extensions?

Would you try ring extensions? Or have you?
