Hi, I’m Olga and I’m the weirdo behind Makeup & things by olgiepolgie. I’ve had the nickname Olgiepolgie since I was in high school many years ago. Remember the Hokey Pokey? My friends started singing Olgiepolgie instead one day and it’s stuck ever since.

I’m an Australian and my blog is beauty-related, with lots of day-to-day makeup looks as well as product reviews and swatches. I often showcase my nail polish, too. I’ve been doing it for a little over a year now and it’s all thanks to Helen, a friend of mine from work. Every day she’d ask me what makeup I was wearing and then suggested I start a blog so that others could also see it. I gave it a go and found that I love blogging, and I haven’t stopped since!

I’ve found so much inspiration and support in the beauty blogging community. I honestly don’t know of anything quite like it anywhere else. There’s so much amazing talent out there and the encouragement to improve your own skills is one of the things I love. It’s also great to see how close-knit we all are, despite oceans and continents physically separating us!

I’ve always loved makeup, particularly bright, sparkly eyeshadow (purple) and lipgloss (purple), and my obsession started in high school. I rarely wear the same look more than once because I always want to try something new, or some variation of what I’ve done before (or add purple). My collection contains a huge range of brands, although most of it consists of indie brands I love like Fyrinnae, Morgana Cryptoria, Aromaleigh and more. I’ve just happily added Sugarpill to that list, since I recently got a truckload of goodies for my birthday.

I’m big into music and I’m always going to concerts. I listen to all kinds of music, but I suppose metal is the genre I most listen to. My next three concerts are The Misfits, Foo Fighters and Opeth. I love to travel, something that my partner and I try to do as often as we can afford to. Our last trip was to Cambodia and Hong Kong. We’ve between together for 13 years and have no plans to marry or have children. We’d love to own a dog, though!

I love reading, with horror and fantasy my favourite genres, although I’m constantly trying to broaden my horizons. I don’t watch too much TV, although my favourite current shows include Dexter, True Blood and Burn Notice. Older shows I love include the X-Files, American Gothic and Millennium. I love going to the movies, too.

I’ve been doing a freestyle form of martial arts for about 12 years now. I’m often in a rush to get there after work, so I use that to my advantage: I don’t have time to remove my makeup before I go, so I try to test out how well my new makeup goodies last under those evil conditions!
