Quickie – Urban Decay Pistol, Mildew and Shattered – Review and Swatches

As promised, I swatched Pistol, Mildew and Shattered for you. I also checked my spreadsheet and dug through my collection to find my Show Pony Palette, and swatched the Show Pony Palette again, which contains the old version of Mildew. All of these swatches are on bare skin.

As a reminder, Urban Decay is a cruelty-free company. Many of their colors are vegan. The new eyeshadows are $18 each and they’re currently available at UrbanDecay.com.

New Shade Descriptions:
Pistol – light greyish brown
Mildew – mossy green with gold shift
Shattered – turquoise with gold shift

Show Pony (Old Formula)
Snatch – peachy pink with gold glitter
Smog – deep bronze
Mildew – deep green
Painkiller – turquoise
Flash – bright iridescent purple
Toasted – rich copper

To me, Old Mildew seems to be a slightly deeper color than New Mildew. The gold color shift is slightly more apparent.

Using new Mildew as the darker green in this look.

UD 24/7 Pencil Shadow n Clash as base, Haight on the center of lid and crease, Walk of Shame on browbone and Cobra along lower lash line. (all new formula)

Walk of Shame and Mushroom used together. (all new formula)

Urban Decay Junkshow on the lid. (new formula)

I really like the new formula of Urban Decay’s shadows. I definitely recommend them!

See my other swatches of the new eyeshadow formula here in my Build Your Own Palette Review..

See the first palette to debut the new formula, the 15 Year Anniversary Eye Shadow Palette.

I’ve also got the 15th Anniversary 24/7 Eyeliner Swatches and 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils.
You can see all of my Urban Decay swatches, too.

The shades that I’m most interested in trying in the new formula that I still haven’t checked out are:
SWF – pale cotton candy pink with silver micro-glitter
S&M – steel grey with subtle taupe shift
Scratch – rose gold
Twice Baked – rich satin brown with gold micro-glitter
Woodstock – saturated deep pink

Have you tried the new Urban Decay eyeshadow formula? Do you love it as much as I do? What are your favorite Urban Decay shades? I’d love to hear from you!

Products purchased by me. All opinions are my own.

i have the old formula of Scratch and it is just beautiful! especially for blue eyes!

      • Phyrra

That makes me want to play with it!

I picked up Ransom and Rockstar to add to my custom palette. LOVE LOVE LOVE Ransom. I had to make a spreadsheet with all the colors I already had in my four UD palettes to make sure I didn’t repeat a purchase. I’m thinking about Bender, Blunt, Midnight Cowgirl, and Oil Slick as possibilities. I’d love to see a comparison between Bender and Mildew.

      • Phyrra

Ransom is nice! I don’t think I have Bender but I’ll check.

    • Melody

I love pistol. I’m on a taupe/brown/grey kick. Weirdly I have no interest in mildew even though I used to love olive green shades. Actually, maybe mildew and pistol would look nice together.

      • Phyrra

Would you use Pistol in the crease with Mildew?

I love UD’s eyeshadows, all of it: texture, finish, shades… since I got Mildew in the palette I’ve stopped using MAC’s Humid, I know it varies but with my skintone they’re so similar. The new Mildew is great, definitely not a dupe of Humid anymore, and it isn’t sheerer, it’s just a new shade altogether, probably more wearable for us shay makeup lovers.
Pistol is great, and I will pass with Shattered, I have Painkiller in the palette and Flipside as a single, and both are definitely richer and deeper. Still a lovely shade though.
By the way I’m shocked you don’t have this palette my version (the name is Preen). I don’t know why I thought you’d have prefered it, being the same shades but in a different case with a peacock in it. Maybe it depends in which country you buy it? Everytime I see a teal or peacock tutorial, I think about you xD thanks for introducing bright colours to all of us!

      • Phyrra

Yeah Mildew just seems lighter, not as deep as the old version.

I wanted Preen! But when I purchased it, only the Show Pony was available.

I love urban decay their shadows are such great quality. I have the mariposa palette and its a fave. Gotta say I love the looks you created. I’m a fan of the bold eye!

      • Phyrra

There are a couple colors that I wanted in the Mariposa, Infamous and Skimp and Rockstar. How do you like them? And thank you!

My favorite UD shade is Smog – I’m so glad that it’s available as a single, because it’s the only one in my Naked1 palette with a significant dip. It’ll take me a long time to finish it – but I think I will actually finish it, and then I’ll buy a single!

I have the 15th Anniversary Palette, so I’ve tried the new formula. Honestly, the old formula (which I’ve tried in Naked1), is so good that I’m not sure I can tell the difference! I should compare them side by side!

      • Phyrra

I really love the 15th Anniversary! Junkshow, Omen, Deep End, Chase and Half Truth are awesome. I also like Evidence, Vanilla, Flow and Deeper, too. Tainted worked ok as a highlight shade the other day.

It’s great that you love Smog ;)

Painkiller and Flash…now those are sweet!

      • Phyrra

        They are fun colors!

I like UD eyeshadows… I only tried the old formula and I love it, I hope I will be able to get a colour the will dismiss soon (Mary Jane)

      • Phyrra

Definitely snap up Mary Jane if you love it!

I really like UD but the new prices are insane (for custom palette)! I have 15th Anniversary palette so at least I have some new quality ones. Tbh can’t tell that much difference with old and new since I don’t have same colours.

I like Mildew, it’s fun green. Don’t use it often enough tho.

      • Phyrra

That’s why I swatched Mildew side by side when I realized I did have the old formula. It’s color is slightly different but the formula is very buttery. If you have the 15th anniversary you have some GREAT colors!

I love Urban Decay’s shadows so much and when I heard they revamped I was so excited! However, I’ll still be foraging the underground for overstock of the old packing and formula!
