Cori’s hair is naturally dark, and she’d been applying a mix of black and brown to her hair.

She didn’t want to remove the color in the bottom of her hair, but she did want to try and lighten the underside of her hair. She said her new growth would lighten up and the ends would be darker and that would be ok.

She brought Ion Sensitive Scalp 20 developer, so we used that mixed with the free Ion Powder Lightener that came with the purchase of the Ion color brilliance.

After lightening up her hair, the new growth turned a golden blonde shade, while the ends were a deep brown.

Since Cori has a lot of thick, long hair, and she only wanted the underside of her hair blue, we clipped up the majority of her long mane and applied the blue to the underside that was lightened.

I used the dark color mix she prefers to darken her new growth through the rest of her hair.

She brought her pretty bichon frise, Cosette over to play with Max and Phaedra while we were doing this. The dogs had a great time.

After everything was rinsed out, the blue was very evident on the new growth but there was only a hint on her ends.

The color is very pretty. I don’t feel that the free lightener powder did a very good job on her darker hair, but it was fine on the new growth. We don’t know how long it will last yet, but I’ll be sure to update you.

Cori was happy with her hair and I was happy to help her dye it. We had a fun day.

I like Cori’s hair! Looks super shiny, too! That’s great that everyone (dogs, too) had a great time! xo

      • Phyrra

Cori has fantastic hair! And I was happy for the puppy play date :)

What I have found with putting blue on bleached hair is that the hair often comes out green rather than blue.

      • Phyrra

You just have to bleach it up enough or use a toner to counteract the yellow/orange tones. I’ve had blue a lot :)

At 4.99, I might have to swing over there to Sally’s and give one of these colors a try when it’s time to do up my hair again – my husband was actually suggesting that I add a lil’ bit of hot pink somewheres in with the aqua and purple =D

      • Phyrra

        Oooh that would be pretty!

    • Melody

Lovely color! I’ve always wanted to add some green or blue or teal to my hair but since it is so long and flat idk what to do with it. I guess if I ever dye it black I’ll do colored streaks.

      • Phyrra

If it’s really long, I’d suggest only trying streaks to see if you like it.

I used the Ion Color Brilliance Red over my Red permanent color (also Ion, mega Red, with 30 developer) when it started to skew a bit carroty. I didn’t bleach it, didn’t use any additional developer, just applied the Color Brilliance straight on to my whole head and put a cap over it. I applied some heat off and on and let it sit for an hour.

As a result, I got some great mega red highlights with some serious bang all over, especially when I’m out in the sun (see my Twitter avatar for proof!). I’m falling in love with the whole Ion line, honestly – been very impressed with everything I’ve tried!

      • Phyrra

        So beautiful!

I used to have blue hair. Miss it. :(

      • Phyrra

Ray used to have blue hair too. I miss him having it. Blue hair can be so pretty! I’m sorry you miss it.

I got the Teal. I have trouble lifting my hair light enough for blues, but I plan on doing my tips and bleaching them twice with a 40 vol! TAKE THAT! And if it fries my hair, I’ll just trim it. :P

I have some friends who work at my local Sally and was eager to test out the new purple, actually. My hair is purple and since Pravana stopped being carried by Cosmoprof I’ve been trying to find an easier, similar color. Nothing yet. :<

But, yeah, they are nothing like Pravana. I opened the bottle right there in the store in case I didn't like it, just put a little on my skin and rubbed it out and noticed it has like…a fraction of the pigment Pravana Vivids have. It also looked /dark/, which is fine and can be helped with toner, but…in this case it worried me since it also just seemed muddy, which is /not/ an issue with Pravana. It's dark but /so/ rich. So disappointed. I returned it right there. I have heard some more success with the blues, though.

If you make sure to wrap the hair while the bleach is in with plastic wrap, grocery bag, shower cap, etc. it will do a much better job cuz it stays wet. And putting a towel over it helps you’re body heat warm it, which also helps tremendously. Do the same when the color is in, and since the color doesn’t hurt the hair at all leave it in for 2+ hours to get a better color.
When I dye my hair blue (the underneath as well) I leave it on for 4 hours, with a shower cap or press and seal to prevent dripping, while I take a nice hot bath. That helps with the hear and keeping it moist. Doing that I’m able to get an extra 3 Weeks of color.

      • Phyrra

According to my stylist you’re not supposed to wrap the bleach or apply heat to it.

When I put dye in my hair, I put on a cap and apply heat.

I really like this color! I’ve had just about every color of the rainbow in my hair. Currently I’m black/purple. I tried out the SPLAT lusty lavender, and it worked better than expected. Punky Colour has always been my go-to though. I need a color boost fairly soon, so I will be heading down to Sallys for the purple! Thanks so much!

In the instructions it states that for Sky Blue along 2 other colors your hair must be lifted to a level 10 blonde other wise the odd colors will contribute to that end result… its new so they might make improvements. :)
