The Kandi Store – A Review

A while back I had the opportunity to try out products from The Kandi Store. (says the girl with the naughty grin on her face). The Kandi Store sent me a variety of products try out.

Packaging:
The packaging is actually really nice in that it’s not too heavy, not too light, but very sturdy. I like the company name embossed on it. The individual shadow packaging actually looks very similar to (though not exactly like) the Makeup Geek eyeshadow pans. The only thing I didn’t like about the packaging (and I’m sure this can be changed) is that it doesn’t list the product name on the products).

Eyeshadow Ingredients:
Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Extract, Dimethicone, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Usnea Barbata (Wildcrafted Lichen) extract, Inulin; May Contain/Peut Contenir (+/-): Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, Ultramarines, Manganese Violet, Carmine.

Eyeshadow Pricing:
$9 for .07 oz

Eyeshadow colors:
Lemon Drop, Peach Gumdrop, Blueberry Pie, Sinful Chocolate Caramel Craze

Eyeshadow Descriptions:
Lemon Drop – Electric sunshine Yellow – intense like a buttercup.
Peach Gumdrop – A vibrant golden peach color, with caramel undertones.
Blueberry Pie – Navy blue- more blue than black with a rich royal blue undertone.
Caramel Craze – A true Golden Pewter color, with a hint of Glitter.
Sinful Chocolate – True Milk Chocolate Brown.

Peach Gumdrop and Caramel Craze are metallics.
Lemon Drop, Blueberry Pie and Sinful Chocolate are mattes.

The eyeshadows all had good pigmentation. The tops of my swatches were bare skin and the rest were on primer. The yellow must contain a dye or something because it slightly stained my skin, but the rest of the colors did not. The mattes blended easily and the metallics were downright buttery.

Mineral Pressed Foundation Color:
I believe mine is Snow White, but there was no label. On me it’s a pale neutral that leans a little warm.

The foundation on its own, applied with a foundation brush. Applied on its own it’s fairly sheer. And I’m rockin’ a red lip with Cherry Pop.

Applied on top of tarte’s Illuminating primer it looks fantastic.

Caramel Taffy, Peach Lollipop, Cherry Pop are the lip glosses.

Lipgloss Ingredients:

Caramel Taffy

Peach Lollipop

Cherry Pop

I’m also wearing Cherry Pop on my lips up above.

I really like the glosses and while they weren’t overly sticky, they stuck around fairly nicely on my lips (though they needed re-applying if I was drinking.

I love Caramel Taffy on my lips. Maybe because it’s summertime, or because I love gold, but the color is awesome. This was the sheerest of the three. Getting the gold shimmer removed from my lips was a bit difficult as it really wanted to stick around.

Peach Lollipop is a really flattering peachy-coral shade. I also thought Cherry Pop was a nice red.

I was also sent their Pixie Stix Brush Kit to review.

Brush Kit (7 brushes and a case):
$45

The brushes are very soft and have just the right density and firmness. The kit breaks down to about $6 per brush and $3 for the case, which is a pretty good deal. It includes a powder brush, eye primer brush, flared eyeshadow brush, mini-precision crease brush, eyeliner brush, lip brush and brow brush. The mini-precision crease brush is awesome for detail and lower lid work.

Customer Service:
The main thing that I feel sets the Kandi store apart from other online stores is the great customer service. Any time I’ve had a question about a product, it’s been answered promptly and courteously.  My package shipped in a timely fashion. Everything was securely packaged. I was thoroughly impressed with the friendly and helpful staff.

While some of the products from The Kandi Store are private label, they are a high quality product. Combined with the excellent customer service and I would not hesitate to purchase from them. I took off one star because I do feel like the prices are a little high.

Are the brushes natural or synthetic?

      • Phyrra

I thought they were cruelty-free. On the site it says a mix of Taklon, Pony, Synthetic. They felt like taklon :/

I love the Caramel Taffy lippy and the Caramel Craze shadow is pretty too. Or maybe I just want some caramel, lol. No, no I like the colors. That Cherry Pop gloss looks so nice for summer too. The prices are a little high, but not horrible, I’ll check them out!

The Caramel Craze Shadow just seems wrongly named, but I like the color.

The foundation is what is most interesting to me. It looks like a powder but you said you used a foundation brush to apply it–is it a cream?

      • Phyrra

It’s a powder. Sorry I meant I used a powder foundation brush (Real Techniques, orange handle, round head) to apply it. I tend to apply powder foundations with that brush. Liquids I apply with my fingertips and blend with a fiber optic brush.

Thanks for the swatches! Peach gumdrop and caramel craze looks really nice. Is the peach gumdrop shadow similar to the milani peaches and cream shadow? Thanks!
