Honey Brown

I need to preface this look with I’m a bit annoyed that I own this palette. I purchased the Smashbox Shades of Fame palette because it had the cruelty-free bunny on the packaging a few weeks ago. I mistakenly thought Smashbox was cruelty-free at that time, and later I contacted Smashbox via email to confirm their status. In their email, they politely told me, “Our longstanding commitment to end animal testing has not changed: we do not test our products or ingredients on animals, nor do we ask others to test on our behalf, except where required by law.

For this look, I started with TFSI Lemon Drop. I used Bliss (try BftE Very Vanilla) on the crease and browbone. I used Nude (try Silk Naturals Bare Back), in my crease and the outer corner of the lid. I used Honey (try BftE Beautiful or Big Island) on the lid and inner v. I deepened the outer v and lower crease with Mocha (try BftE Espresso). I highlighted with Venomous Pegasus. I lined my upper lash line and lower waterline with Nyx glossy black liner. I lined my lower lash line with Nyx Turquoise Blue.

I really like how this look turned out. I’ve been a bit annoyed at my hooded eyes lately, because I feel like my looks are never as nice as looks from people who don’t have hooded eyes. I had to re-adjust my attitude and remind myself that my looks were nice on me and that I have to work with the eye shape I have. I need to improve my blending and color placement to work with my eye shape.

In other news, the Nyx retractable eyeliners are really fabulous. I think they’re what I’ll be using to replace my 24/7 liners when they run out.

I love this look, it is understated but fun at the same time, and you are rocking that hair!

      • Phyrra

Thank you Margo! Short hair can be such fun!

I sometimes wish I had bigger eyes too, but my mother reminds me that those of us with smaller eyes won’t have as many wrinkles or as much sagging as those with larger eyes (like Susan Sarandon, she has gorgeous big eyes but recently admitted she had an eye lift). I think your eye shape suits your face well and I love seeing your makeup looks so I can do something similar on myself. There aren’t many beauty bloggers/youtube gurus that have a similar eye shape to me (I’m half Asian, half Caucasian so my eyes aren’t mono-lidded but I don’t have a whole lot of lid space to work with either!)

      • Phyrra

Thank you Jeanne! I’m glad my eyes help you with yours :)

      Pretty look!

I have small, hooded eyes and have had many of the same thoughts. I’m not sure I ever thought about it until I started blogging and noticed how different my eyes were compared to some of the big eyed beauties whose makeup skills I admired. I’ve made peace with it:-)

      • Phyrra

Thank you Lulubelle! Yeah it’s hard when I see a look I want to recreate but I can’t ever do it exactly the way I see it because my eyes are shaped differently.

    • Sandy

I think you do a darn good job with the eyes nature gave you, Phyrra. They are beautiful and your good heart and soul shine through. Love to Phaedra and Max! ^^

      • Phyrra

        Thanks Sandy :)

Yay for re-adjustment! Seeing you decorate your eyes tells me what I can do with mine. You inspire me, and FREQUENTLY take me out of my comfort zone! So again, YAY for re-adjustment!

      • Phyrra

        Aww you’re welcome Jean!

Which color is giving the lid that pink duochrome? I love the look and share your frustration at the new “cruelty free” standards so many companies are adopting. Are we really going that far backwards in cosmetics? I support businesses growing their brand, but I’m getting tired of the “we want to change it from the inside” talk. Money talks…what will convince China not to test on animals…don’t sell to them. If you expand into a market that allows this sort of practice where is the impetus to change?

      • Phyrra

The lid shade is Smashbox Honey. That’s the gold with pink duochrome.

      • Gabrielle

I so agree with you! It seems to me that it’s the difference between just giving lip service to customers, and really having the philosophy. If they’re that willing to change it just to sell more product, how can they really claim to feel that way?

    • http://www.geniabeme.com Eugenia

This is very pretty! I’m not use to seeing these colors on you!

    • Gabrielle

Hurray for appreciating your own body and learning to do what works for you! I am still trying to figure this out too– while I’m not sure if they’re hooded, I have limited eyelid space myself and I think that’s part of my challenge in learning to blend well. I guess we all should remember that makeup is for fun and to enhance our own features, and shouldn’t make us envy others’.

I second all the hair love! That colour is so gorgeous! :)
