Too Faced Poison Orchid

For my next installment in the Orchid series, I have the Exotic Phalaenopsis orchids, sometimes referred to as moth orchids. Really, I just wanted to do a look with Too Faced Poison Orchid, and since as far as my research showed me, there are no ‘real’ poison orchids, the gorgeous Purple Phalaenopsis Orchid  will be the next variety of flower represented. Anyway, I think this is a nice interpretation of the purple smoky eye for fall. Also, this looks GREAT with glasses on.

This look could be made hotter with false lashes but my allergies have been really awful, so I’m trying not to irritate my eyes.

I was looking at Phaedra and smiled when the flash went off.

Too Faced Poison Orchid Purple Smoky Eye Tutorial

How to Achieve the Look:

  1. Prep the eyes with Too Faced Shadow Insurance.
  2. Apply Illamasqua Heroine from lashlight to browbone, very lightly.
  3. Line the outer upper and lower lash lines with Too Faced Perfect Black Orchid liner, then smudge the liner.
  4. Apply Too Faced Poison Orchid to the lid.
  5. With a rounded crease brush apply Sugarpill Poison Plum to the crease and inner lid.
  6. With a highlighter brush, blend out the upper crease shade with Too Faced Heaven.
  7. Apply more Poison Orchid to the outer crease.
  8. Apply Poison Plum to the inner v and inner lower lash line.
  9. Apply Poison Orchid along the outer lower lash line.
  10. Apply more Perfect Black Orchid along the upper lash line and extend it out into a cat eye shape, then smudge more Poison Orchid on top of it.
  11. Line the upper and lower waterline with Too Faced Perfect Black liner.
  12. Highlight under the brows and at the inner eye area with Too Faced Firefly.
  13. Add mascara or falsies and you’re done.

I love how my eyes turned out. Ray loved it too! Then again, he’s partial to purple.

What do you think of this purple look? Would you wear it?

Some products purchased by me. Some products sent for consideration. All opinions are my own.

Gorge! Yes, I’d definitely rock this look.

        rougerogueVal Thanks Val!

I love Poison Orchid! I never buy single shadows but I bought this one when you first posted about it. I love purples on you, too. Oh, and my dogs always make me smile. I will just find myself grinning from ear to ear. I don’t know what I would do without them!

      • http://www.Phyrra.net/ Phyrra

Jessi M I’m so glad you have this one and love it, Jessi! Yeah, our dogs are awesome :)

    • Purple Oleander

I have this color! I love it. I’ve noticed this sort of shade (deep reddish-purple/burgandy, almost black base, purple glitter) is pretty common, but so far, Too Faced has the best formula. I’m going to have to try this look the next time I get the itch to use this color.

      • http://www.Phyrra.net/ Phyrra

Purple Oleander Yeah Too Faced’s formula with this is great. While you will experience fallout during application, I don’t experience any fallout during wear, even after 12 hours. I don’t own any other purples like this one, and I own a TON of purple.

        • Purple Oleander

Phyrra  Same here, absolutely no fallout. This is a blessing for me, and makes it one of my go-to shadows when I feel like putting on makeup and forgetting about it. I don’t mind touching up my foundation a little, but I hate fiddling with my eye makeup once I’m done applying it.Stila has a similar color in the “In the Moment” palette, but it’s dry and powdery by comparison. MAC’s “Beauty-Marked” is another close one, but MAC’s pressed shadows don’t impress (haha) me. The Balm’s “Fiesty Felecia” is a good quality shadow that’s about 90% similar, but it’s only available in one of their Shady Lady palettes. However, if anyone here has any of those, but not the Too Faced shadow, you can still do the look with those! I’d recommend using a dark base with the Stila and MAC colors, and primer with all three.Sorry, Phyrra, not trying to take over your blog!

    • jennemm

Beeyoutiful! Really love the full face shots too! I used to have a moth orchid, nice job on the color representation!

      • http://www.Phyrra.net/ Phyrra

        jennemm Aww thank you!

    • thebirdofparadise

This is simply stunning! And of course, you rock it like nobody else! My goal for myself is to do “smoky” in not-just-black this Fall, so this is great inspiration. And the tutorial is much appreciated.

      • http://www.Phyrra.net/ Phyrra

thebirdofparadise Thank you! Yeah try smoky teals, smoky purples, smoky greens, anything that you love.

    • ahhhdri

oh my, this color is beautiful!  It looks amazing on you!

    • trumpette

This is gorgeous! The colour really suits you – looks great with your hair! I love smoky eyes done in colour and this is going to be perfect for fall (love your teal smoky look, too!). Thanks for another great tutorial – Can’t wait to try this one!

    • Lisa Brown

Wow, one of the pretty colors on you yet. Really brings out the color of your eyes.

    • http://alostgirl.wererabbit.net/ Misato

I’m not into the lips you choose this time, but the eye and face look… gorgeous as always!

      • http://www.Phyrra.net/ Phyrra

Misato I wanted to go with a ‘traditional’ lip color for a smoky eye, but I wasn’t too crazy about it either.

    • SilkeSquirrel

Very pretty! I really love this blush color with this look :) I’d wear it, but I need more purples first!

      • http://www.Phyrra.net/ Phyrra

SilkeSquirrel thanks! I really like it too :)

    • misfitgirlie

ALL KINDS OF YES!!! This is one of my favorites! I need to choose some substitutes because I only have Poison Orchid, but I will make it work! It’s also good to know that it looks good with glasses. I’ve needed glasses since I was 5, but got contacts at 11, and have generally wore them during the day and my glasses at night. Now that I am getting older, I am more open to wearing glasses (especially since I spent way too much money on new frames in January and justified it by saying that I need to see), but hesitate to do it because it takes me so damn long to put on my make-up that way! I guess I could put in my contacts and then take them out, but that seems counterproductive, haha.

      • http://www.Phyrra.net/ Phyrra

misfitgirlie Yeah I have that trouble. I hate putting makeup on when I’m wearing my glasses, because I’m so blind I can’t see to put it on!

    • WendiThroatPunchGirven

I love this so freaking HARD. I must own Poison Orchid NOW!

      • http://www.Phyrra.net/ Phyrra

        WendiThroatPunchGirven Yes!

    • ItsJustDi

I love this look. Purple makes any eye color pop!

      • http://www.Phyrra.net/ Phyrra

        ItsJustDi Thank you Di!

    • LillianFunnyFace

This looks amazing on you, Poison Orchid is a gorgeous colour and makes your eyes look so bright!

      • http://www.Phyrra.net/ Phyrra

        LillianFunnyFace Thanks Lillian!

    • xamyx

I recently picked up NARS Caravaggio, and have been thinking of ways to use it; I’m looking forward to trying this look with it. It’s not *exact*, but with a bit of tweaking & layering, it just may come pretty close.

      • http://www.Phyrra.net/ Phyrra

        xamyx That’ll be great :)

    • Ann Clothier

I love this look!  I think what really makes this stand out is the darker color on the inside.  The Sugarpill Poison Plum layered over the Too Faced Poison Orchid gives it an almost ‘backward’ smokey eye look.  Do you know what I mean?  I think it looks awesome! This is definitely the next look I’m going to try.  I also want to give it a try with some deep blue shades.  I’m new to your blog, so I’m going to have to go back through your archives and check out some more tutorials.  Since picking out complimentary colors is the hardest part for me, thank you for all the hard work and suggestions!

    • RileyMariesMom

      Wow, I really like that.
