GlossyBox Summer Nights Review & Swatches

I have another GlossyBox to show you. This one is called the Summer Nights box, I believe, for July.

Ofra Cosmetics Universal Eyebrow Pencil

Caswell-Massey Almond and Aloe Hand & Body Emulsion

Sebastian Color Ignite Multi-tone Shampoo & Conditioner
Senna Cosmetics Lip Lacquer in Double Dipped
Alessandro International Pedix Heel Rescue Balm

Products I Like:
Senna Cosmetics Lip Lacquer in Double Dipped (clear candy pink and gold-flecked peach)
It’s pretty! I’m actually really happy to try out Senna Cosmetics as I’ve always wanted to try their products.

Products I Dislike:
Ofra Cosmetics Universal Eyebrow Pencil – The texture was very hard.
Alessandro International Pedix Heel Rescue Balm
Almond and Aloe Hand & Body Emulsion by Caswell-Massey
Really? Another cream? Two more Creams? After the June box filled with cream products?
Sebastian Color Ignite Multi-tone Shampoo & Conditioner – not sulfate-free. I can’t use shampoo and conditioner with sulfate because my scalp will burn, flake, turn red and hurt like hell.. Also, it doesn’t smell very appealing.

GlossyBox retails for $21. You can see my inaugural post here. You can see my June post here.

To me, this box is another bust. There’s one product I like, which is the Senna Cosmetics gloss (which retails for $22).

I wish I could talk to whoever is putting together the boxes. I would tell her – or him – that drowning your subscribers in creams and hair products that aren’t sulfate-free is not the way to put a winning box together. No one needs to receive 2 boxes filled with creams back to back! Skincare and Haircare are not the only beauty products out there! I truly am looking for makeup, such as glosses, nail polish and eyeshadows, not haircare products I can’t use or creams. I really think GlossyBox should take down subscriber information such as – cruelty-free products only and sulfate-free hair products only. there would be far less disappointment if something like this was implemented.

That said, I received another GlossyBox that I will be reviewing for you shortly, which promises to be much better.

Edited to Add: One of my lovely readers informed me that the Sebastian products included in the box have been discontinued. This makes me feel like whoever is putting together the boxes is just chucking crap in the box, without a care for what subscribers will actually want to purchase or enjoy. Please stop putting together boxes with discontinued items and too many creams.

What do you think of this GlossyBox? Are there any products you like? What do you think of Senna Cosmetics?

To the best of my knowledge:
Ofra Cosmetics is cruelty-free.
Senna Cosmetics is cruelty-free.
Sebastian is not cruelty-free.
I am unsure about Alessandro International or Caswell-Massey.

Products sent for consideration. All opinions are my own.

I subscribe to glossybox. I’ve been disappointed too. I like the color of the sienna lip gloss but it’s too sticky for me. The thing that was really disappointing in my opinion was that the Sebastian shampoo and conditioner was from the line they just discontinued. So I know you can’t use it, but even if you could, it’s about to go away….forever. The August box does look better. We will see. Thanks for your review!

Oh Ivory, that is awful! I just feel like someone is chucking crap in a box and thinking ‘oh they’ll love this!’ or ‘Wow, we’re saving money by giving these suckers crap.’ Finding out the Sebastian Shampoo and Conditioner was DISCONTINUED and yet included in a box is awful.

I gave up on boxes. This looks crappy for the price. :( I prefer food boxes if any. I know I will always be able to eat or use something from a cruelty-free vegan box.

Hi Callie. I have been wanting to try one…which ones did you try and not like. I was going to try the BIrchbox and it looks like hit or miss…I would love to sample some great primers and other products prior to making the big plunge, especially since I live over an hour from the nearest Sephora for samples:) Take care, Jennifer

That is crazy that any of the products are being discontinued. I enjoy seeing the different boxes and have ultimately decided to just start of with the $10 one…maybe the husband won’t notice that coming out of his account each month. I know I am an equal, but darn I HATE not being the independent woman I have always been. To me, it’s like asking my dad for $10 and it drives me nuts…lol. Do you guys like the Birchbox or is it better I go with another box? Is there another one $15 and under better than the Birch? Thanks Phyrra for your review on this one!

this is last month’s box! It was disappointing, but this months box is actually very nice. I got an illamasqua nail polish, ellis faas lipstick, and ole henricksen truth serum, and some other goodies.

      • Phyrra

Sadly, I didn’t get it until a week or two ago. I just got this month’s box, too and am going through that.

Birchbox has been kind of meh the past 2 months but I’m very pleased with the Beauty Bar by Sample Society. It’s sponsored by Allure magazine. -Olive

I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels these boxes are not worth it. This one is so pathetic!!

This one seems really lame! Thats too bad.

    • Marcey

You’ll have to give Senna eyeshadow & blush a chance. I really like her 5 shadow sets – have 3 of them & one 5 piece lip palette. You get liner, highlight, 3 other shadows plus a dual ended brush which really does work for lining. And the color payoff is decent.

What I know of the ‘boxes’ is that they are free products sent in exchange for ‘free advertisement’ so from a business side I’m not shocked to see a lot of not amazing stuff. I mean if I am expected to send 50 -250 freebies for X company to turn around and make a profit on….I’m not going to send $4000 worth of product or the ‘Free’ in the advertising is more than a decent ad in a major beauty magazine.

    • Moxie

Really awful! I’m glad you posted so others know. Even if September’s box is good, I don’t know how they’re going to get new customers to try! I certainly would be very nervous after reading what was sent!

I agree with you that the gloss seems to be the only item of merit. The cream samples are crazy small and boring and I am skeptical of a “universal” eyebrow pencil. Plus, putting in discontinued products is ridiculous on every level. Too bad this was so disappointing!
