Cooler Cleanse – Juice for a Day – My experience

On Wednesday I participated in Cooler Cleanse‘s Juice for a Day Juice Cleanse. It’s a one day cleanse. I’d never done a cleanse before, so I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect.

Cooler Cleanse overnights the freshly squeezed juices to you. You’re supposed to drink them in 2 hour intervals.

Cooler cleanse Sweet

kale, watermelon, apple, lemon
gluten-free • vegan • organic ingredients •

The iron in green leafy vegetables increases your oxygen-carrying blood cells, so you have more energy. Leafy green vegetables also provide more nutrients per calorie than any other food and support liver function, which is critical to good health. Apples pack a power punch of Vitamin C.

My Take
I could drink this any day. It tastes really good. However, while waiting for the 2nd juice, I was super hungry. It was hard to focus on work.

Cooler cleanse Citrus

pineapple, orange, lime
gluten-free • vegan • organic ingredients •

Citrus is a super-source of some of nature’s most protective phytonutrients. Pineapple works in synergy with the oranges and limes to provide the enzymes, vitamins and minerals critical to well-being.

My Take
This one was really tasty. Definitely sour.

Cooler Cleanse Green

cucumber, celery, parsley, spinach, kale, pear, lemon, ginger
gluten-free • vegan • organic ingredients •

Dark green vegetables contain a rainbow of essential vitamins and minerals essential for the cleansing functions of the kidneys and liver. Dark, leafy greens also give the system loads of water-soluble fiber to sweep toxins out. These greens are highly alkalizing to your cells — this counters the damage done by the corrosive acidic waste products from meat, sugar, dairy and other common foods.

My Take
This tasted disgusting and foul. It was hard to finish this one. I only like ginger when it’s pickled, or crystallized. I don’t care for it when it’s a strong flavor like ginger beer or gingerbread cookies. This one tasted like ginger, parsley and celery. All flavors I don’t like. I don’t think I could drink this again unless the lemon and pear flavors were heavier. It was really awful.

Cooler Cleanse Spicy

lemon, lime, cayenne pepper, raw agave, filtered water
gluten-free • vegan • organic ingredients •

Lemons alkalinize your body, providing healing balance to the modern acidic diet. Cayenne pepper boosts your metabolism, increases circulation and causes you to burn calories faster for a spell.

My Take
I didn’t expect to like this one, but I did! While it’s definitely spicy for me, it was pretty tasty. It was at the top end of how hot I can handle something. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to handle the cayenne pepper.

Cooler Cleanse Veggie

carrot, apple, beet, lemon, spinach
gluten-free • vegan • organic ingredients •

A nutritional powerhouse of Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, C, E and K, calcium, copper, folate, iron, maganese, molybdenum, omega-3 fatty acids, potassium, selenium and fiber.

My Take
This one is really good. I can taste the beet and lemon the most. Again, I could drink this one whenever and not have an issue.

  Cooler Cleanse Hemp

raw hemp seeds, vanilla bean, dates, filtered water
gluten-free • vegan • organic ingredients •

Hemp is a high protein seed containing all twenty amino acids, including the nine essential amino acids and a high percentage of the simple proteins that help build immunity and fend off toxins. It also has high amounts of omega fatty acids and fiber as well as containing vitamin E and trace minerals.

My Take
Not my favorite flavor, but not as bad as the Green. I like the hint of Vanilla. I don’t like the help seeds, I’m guessing. This was very chalky and I had trouble finishing the last 1/3 of the bottle because I felt nauseated.

By the end of the cleanse, I felt exhausted. During the middle of it, I had some energy. I ended up going to bed early.

Would I do another cleanse?
Yes. I’d be willing to try another one. I  just don’t know that I could ever make myself stomach another of the Green juices. It was so awful to me.

When is it good to do a cleanse?
I think it would be good to do a cleanse after a big holiday dinner, like Thanksgiving.

Cooler Cleanse recommends that you try it if:

  • You want to experience the benefits of juicing and cleansing without a big committment.
  • You want to feel refreshed and reinvigorated, or hit “reset” after a splurge.
  • You want to include a day of juicing in your week for year-round health and beauty.

While I did not feel the revitalizing power of raw living juices, and in fact I felt very tired after the cleanse, for Thanksgiving, it was easy for me to keep portions in mind and I didn’t overeat. I was able to go to two different Thanksgiving dinners (one for lunch and one for dinner) and not feel stuffed.

Would I recommend it?
Yes! If you’re interested in trying a cleanse, try a 1 day cleanse. I do think it’s a good way to hit reset and make it much easier for  you to fix your portion control with meals. I don’t think it is something I could do every week, because of how difficult I found it to focus while doing the cleanse. Plus, it made me cranky. And I had to visit the bathroom a ton to ‘cleanse.’

Have you ever done a cleanse? If so, what type did you do?

Products sent for consideration. All opinions are my own.

I’m sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the green juice, but it’s true that ginger has a really strong taste, and it’s hard to get over it if you don’t like it!!All of this juice seems really appealing to me, I’m curious about the one with hemp, as I never tried this! I think this kind of cleanse may be an easy thing to organise for someone who has a blender and fresh/organic market near by, and it has lots of benefits even if we don’t feel them right away because our body is not used to it. Ideally I would include this in my normal diet maybe twice a month if I could, but unfortunatly I don’t have the right requirements right now! Thanks for this post, I found it really interesting and I love how your articles are always with lots of details! Have a nice week-end :o)

Lutrinae The hemp was soooooo chalky. bleh! I do sometimes make smoothies with a little bit of unsweetened almond milk and frozen fruit, which I love.
I’m glad you found it helpful!

I’m not a fan of phony science for the sake of marketing. How does a naturally acidic lemon ‘alkalinize’ all of a sudden? Oh well. It’s marketing and if it sells, it works.
But if it helps you feel better, who am I to judge?

JessiM I can make no claims on whether or not it alkalizes. I just know that I felt really spacy, cranky and tired during the cleanse. The benefit I saw the day after was that I had no issues with food portion control. I didn’t overeat for the first time on Thanksgiving. This was fantastic for me. :)

I add hemp seeds to my yogurt or granola cereal. They have a subtle sunflower taste to me. I am sorry to say that with my food allergies, I wouldn’t be able to drink half the juices they list. Too bad they don’t allow you to pick the ones you can drink. I love ginger. I often make unsweetened ginger tea when my tummy is upset. Sorry you don’t like it more.

dunno I can bare to do this for a day, for sure not a day I have to work, maybe on a weekend. Not all the  bottle seems tasty

Wow love reading about how you felt with each juice. I have done several cleansers and they definitely make you feel tire until you start eating again normal, but I have an uncle in Venezuela that always does it at least once a month to recharge and clean the body.
I’m going to check out this website..

Juice cleanses are kinda bad for your health but drinking this stuff just as a juice with a meal and not a cleanse is probably fine and healthy. I would personally never do a juice cleanse but I want to taste that spicy lemon one.

      What a lovely post :-)

How interesting! I wasn’t aware that there were one-day cleanses. I feel more likely to try one knowing it would just be for one day, so thank you for sharing your experience. I do fear the crankiness and tiredness, so I’d potentially try it on a weekend if my curiosity outweighed my fear of feeling poorly!
