It’s time for another round of Makeup Wars! This time, we’re showing off our favorite mascaras.
My favorite mascaras for the past few months have been Milani Total Lash Cover Mascara and Multi-Action Blackest Black Mascara.
Provides multi-performance coverage with a 3 zone brush that defines, builds, and curls lashes. This long-lasting, non-clumping formula feels comfortable for all day wear.
Water, Glyceryl Stearate, Propylene Glycol, Pvp, C18 – 36 Acid Triglyceride, Polybutene, Cetyl Palmitate, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Vp/Eicosene Copolymer, Nylon-12, Stearic Acid, Steareth-20, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Triethanolamine, Steareth-2, Xanthan Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Isobutylparaben. +/- May Contain: Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).
This multi-talented lash lover offers an innovative brush and unique texture with carbon black pigments to ensure more volume, length and curve for the deepest black lashes! A must-have for dramatic eyes!!
Aqua (Water), Carnauba (Copernicia Cerifera) Wax, Paraffin, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearic Acid, Cetearyl Alcohol, Pvp, Candelilla (Euphorbia Cerifera) Wax, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Potassium Hydroxide, Potassium Sorbate, Dimethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, CI 77266 (Black 2), CI 77499 (Iron Oxides).
This is Essence by itself.
I think it looks pretty good on my lashes.
I used Essence mascara first, and then followed up with the Milani mascara.
I like layering the mascaras.
Milani Total Lash Cover mascara on its own.
I think the Milani gives pretty good results on its own.
Both of these mascaras are cruelty-free. Both are affordable. Neither irritate my sensitive eyes.
Essence Blackest Black is the darkest mascara that I own. I like to use the Essence mascara first, because I find it the easiest to catch and coat my inner and outer lashes. I then use the Milani Total Lash Cover to brush through all of my lashes.
My requirements for mascara are pretty specific:
I feel like this is a long list of requirements, and these mascaras work together to meet them, though they can meet them on their own. What are your favorite mascaras? Do you have any cruelty-free mascaras to recommend to me?
See what mascaras the rest of the Makeup Wars beauty bloggers love!
Milani sent for consideration. Essence purchased by me. All opinions are my own.

The Milani looks so gorgeous!! They’re both so affordable too! Great choices <3
blushingnoir Thank you <3
I love layering mascaras – so smart! These look so nice.
It sounds like they perform pretty well for such affordable mascaras. Thanks. I’ll have to check them out!
I love FAIRYDROPS Scandal Queen. I’m not sure if its cruelty free (couldn’t find anything saying yes or no) and Avon SuperShock MAX does amazing things for my lashes.
avon tests on animals
Good to know that both essence and Milani are CF! Love both brands. I did not have much luck with the multi-action mascara (and I wish that they would seal those tubes at Ulta). These both look nice on your lashes here!
Milani is one of my favorite drugstore brands, both for mascara and shadow.
I haven’t tried either of these but I will now! What a great mix our team has reviewed!
I was wondering what you’d pick since I know some mascaras are especially harsh on your eyes. I guess my Ulta coupon could come in handy when searching for these.
My favorite mascara used to be Clinique’s Lash Doubling mascara, until I found out that they tested on animals. Now I use Lush’s Eyes Right mascara. It’s not as good, but it’s cruelty free and apparently was developed to be non-irritating. I have ocular allergies, and I’m usually able to wear this one through the day.
I’ve been hearing so much about Milani, but have yet to try anything. Where is the best place to find their stuff?
