Love Zelda and Link?

Someone very awesome hacked the Legend of Zelda game (one of my favorite classic Nintendo games) to allow you to play as Princess Zelda and rescue Link.

So cool! So glad I saw this. I loved playing RPGS growing up, and I still play them as an adult, though less frequently. I often wished that instead of being stuck playing a guy, I could play as a girl. I think, perhaps, that’s one of the reasons I fell into Everquest, and later World of Warcraft, so hard. I could finally play a character that was an extension of myself.

Anyway, this is awesome, so I wanted to share.

I remember reading recently about someone doing something similar to Donkey Kong so that his daughter could play as a female character instead of Mario. Bizarrely, this led to male rights activists protesting his "brainwashing" his daughter and coming out with a sexswapped version of Metroid's Samus.

Still not sure if the male rights reaction was meant to be some kind of satire or joke.

Loved the Zelda games up until around the Game Cube and then I kind of moved on. I just didn't like the real-ness of the newer games. Some of the characters kind of freaked me out, too, and strangely my worst nightmares have always come from video games (as opposed to movies or books or real life)

@Cassykins You would still like windwaker. It's got a very cartoon feel to it. More so than Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. For me, Majora's mask has the darkest story line if you pay close attention. Twilight Princess was meant to have a "real" feel to it. I think they were trying to utilize the newer graphics and create a different over all feeling.

Have you ever played any games from the Metroid series? Great games with a strong female protagonist.

@starshine715 Yes I remember playing the original Metroid series, but I felt like the fact that she was hidden and looked like a guy in her space suit for most of it kind of made it hard to realize.

@Phyrra @starshine715 Throughout the first game, there was no indication that Samus was female until the very end. It shocked many people. I love the Legend of Zelda series, though. Probably my favorite series. I have a massive tattoo on my leg =)
