Seventh Generation 7 Day Journey

Happy Monday! Today I’m going to talk to you about Seventh Generation. I first became aware of Seventh Generation about two years or so ago because they make a fragrance free dish soap, which is perfect for cleaning brewing supplies. I started to learn more about the company and I found out that they’re a leading brand of green household and now personal care products.

They’re also a B Corporation. B corporations are corporations that act responsibily and with transparency. They meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance. They use sustainable ingredients in their products. This is important because they use their business to help further their environmental values.

Seventh Generation asked me:
Reconsider: What one small change will you make today to live a cleaner, healthier life?

I think this quetion is interesting because it challenges us to think about what we can do to take responsibility for our effect on the world, and makes me think that one person can and should try to make a difference, even if it’s just in very simple, small ways. As one person, I can only do so much, but if enough of us do what we can, it does make a difference. This mentality is actually one of the reasons I chose to go cruelty-free with my beauty products, because I feel it makes a difference.

After learning that Seventh Generation started making personal care products, I was excited because that means that their cruelty-free (and Leaping Bunny Certified), ethically created products would be more widely available to the public. Often that’s not the case and it can be difficult to find products that are created with such rigorous standards. The tag line on all products is “Everything your skin needs, nothing it doesn’t.” This really fits with the company’s image and values. They’ve created products that are over 90% plant-based from sustainable ingredients and lacking may harmful toxins.

I was sent several of their personal care products to review. I received Lavender Purifying Hand Wash (which I can’t use because lavender gives me a headache), Peppermint Nourishing Body Wash, Chamomile Sensitive Care Lotion, Mandarin Refreshing Facial Cleansing Cloths and Mandarin Cleansing Bar Soap. All of the products are gluten-free, paraben and phthalates free, kosher, and the containers are made from 96% post-consumer recycled plastic.

Lavender Purifying Hand Wash

  • USDA Certified Biobased 97%

Price
$4.99 12 oz.

Sadly I couldn’t test this one. It’s not worth me triggering a headache, or worse, a migraine. It also comes in a Mandarin scent, which probably smells wonderful.

Peppermint Nourishing Body Wash
Pure rejuvenation, refreshingly scented with essential oils and botanical extracts. Our oh-so-gentle 93% plant-based body wash rinses clean and leaves your skin feeling wonderfully revived.

  • USDA Certified Biobased 93%

Price
$7.99 15 oz.

I love this! Ray always loves peppermint scents and this one is wonderful. It also comes in Chamomile, Mandarin and Lavender.

Chamomile Body Lotion
Moisturize your skin with everything it needs to feel healthy and refreshed. Our gentle, 95% plant-based formula glides on and absorbs quickly to help you recapture the pure, naturally soft feeling you love. Fragranced with natural oils and botanical extracts.

  • USDA Certified Biobased 95%
  • Moisturizing formula
  • Won’t clog pores

I was sad that I couldn’t detect a scent in this one as I love chamomile. However it’s a nice lotion. It also comes in Mandarin and Lavender.

Mandarin Facial Cloths
Treat your face to a gentle, thorough clean whenever you like. Gentle facial cleansing cloths are infused with 100% plant-based cleansers that leave delicate facial skin feeling nurtured and healthy. Choose Mandarin to refresh, Lavender to soothe.

  • USDA Certified Biobased 100%
  • Removes dirt, oil & makeup

Price
$5.99 for 30 cloths.

I like the Mandarin scent. It works reasonably well to remove foundation, blush and eyeshadow but don’t expect it to take off your mascara or waterproof eyeliner. It says you don’t need to rinse your face afterwards, but with my rosacea, I always cleanse after I use a facial cloth. It also comes in Lavender.

Mandarin Bar Soap
You can almost feel your skin sigh with pleasure as the rich, creamy lather rinses away dirt and impurities. Our 100% plant-based formula gently cleanses your skin with everything it needs — and nothing it doesn’t.

  • USDA Certified Biobased 100%

Price
$3.99 for one bar

I’m not a fan of bar soap but it does smell nice. It also comes in Peppermint, Chamomile and Lavender.

I love facial cloths for days I don’t wear makeup especially, they’re quick and convenient and I’m usually ready to drop by the time I get around to washing my face before bed (but I always do, I never go to bed with makeup on!).
