So it looks like Stila Cosmetics is no longer cruelty free. I tweeted at them asking about updates to their animal testing policy, along with several other bloggers. Above is the response that I received. Here are the links to tweet 1 and tweet 2.
I asked if Stila was selling in China, but have not received a response back. Once I do, I will update this post.
This is a sad day, to lose Stila Cosmetics. I actually wondered if this was going to happen back in August when I wrote about Being A Cruelty Free Blogger and Brands Selling In China because it seemed like they might be going into China next.
Please see my friend Tashina’s post from Logical Harmony and my friend Jen’s post from My Beauty Bunny.

They are so kind to bring their products to China and other countries that test. I’m sure it doesn’t have a thing to do with their bottom line! While I’m not strict about CF I still love it when companies are and respect them for their stance. Luckily there’s still Tarte, IT and UD that we love.
Agreed. I’m very glad that Urban Decay opted not to go to China.
Interesting… keep up posted!

This is a shame. I wish companies would just opt not to sell in China due to the utterly repellent testing requirements.
All they see is the money
Crap. They are one of favorite go-to companies, and I felt really good about buying their stuff because it wasn’t animal tested. I guess I’m going to have to find new favorites!
Same here. I still think people should email them / write them / tweet them / facebook them / etc to tell them we don’t like it. With some companies, it works! Some will change their mind.
Thank you so much for updating us all on this! I am absolutely disgusted by the brands who were cruelty free and decided that profit is much more important, and are willing to go back on their word. So frustrating! All we want is to get rid of evil and harm in this world and testing on animals for MAKEUP! is honestly pointless, absolutely pointless! But rant aside, thank your so much for informing us of this change!!!
Keep it sweet and stylish!
You’re welcome! I just wish it wasn’t true. I saw a hint of this happening in July.

BOO HOO HOO to all you cray babies. I am sure most of you use things that hurt someting. Animals are not people and should not be treated as so. If a country has a law stating that all cosmetics need to be tested first on animals then so be it. Would you rather they use yo instead? If you are wearing clothes you are hurting plants if you are killing bugs or spiders you are hurting them. GET A CLUE!
I found out, MAC is also no longer animal cruelty free. This was sad sad news to me…
I buy other make up now. That’s just fine anyway. There are so many animal cruelty free cosmetics that are awesome out there.
Thanks for this info!!
You’re welcome! MAC being no longer cruelty free is what pushed me into going cruelty free
I had no idea cosmetic that are sold in China are tested on animals. Because it’s their law. I understand that, china is a big market. I mean look at the amount of population there… You can make loads of money as cosmetic companies. But it’s rediculous that these compamies chose money over faithful consumers like us!!

I don’t know if this has been noted before, but they still have a cruelty-free icon at the bottom of their webpage! the nerve!
i think smashbox still does as well.
oh dangit!! there goes another one of my favorite products. i’m sure i can find a replacement primer, though. thank you for helping me be more informed about which companies allow the testing of their products on animals!
the tweet “stila as a brand does not support nor test on animals ourselves” is hogwash. if you sell items in another country that requires that, then yes, as a brand, as a company, you are making that decision to support it.
yeah it was definitely b.s.
What is going on with PETA??? It’s been months that we have all known, by their own admission, that Stila isn’t cruelty free anymore, yet PETA still has them listed as not testing… They are unfortunately getting less reliable by the day.
Honestly, I don’t know. I prefer Leaping Bunny (and Leaping Bunny Certification, which is why I’m working on getting my hair mask certified), but sometimes PETA just seems like they’re overworked / not enough people to check up on things.
Leaping Bunny is my go to as well. It’s just a shame PETA is dropping the ball a bit because to many, particularly those critical of animal rights, I think PETA is the public face of those of us who care.
Aw man! I was just about to order from their mother’s day sale. Oh well, I should spend less money anyway…
