Not too long ago I purchased the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Ethereal. I expected to fall in love with this cool pink blush, as I thought it would be a perfect match for me.

About Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush
Discover a new way to blush: This groundbreaking hybrid combines the customized lighting effects of Ambient Lighting Powder with a spectrum of breathtakingly modern hues. The result is a natural radiant finish with seamless, soft-focus and buildable color. Unlike traditional blush, which tends to be flat, Ambient Lighting Blush uses Photoluminescent Technology to exhibit depth and dimension. The hand-made powders are formulated using an advanced miscelare technique—which means “to mix” in Italian—creating the perfect balance of pigment and powder, and no two look alike.

I have a love hate with this blush. I hate the packaging because it shows finger prints worse than NARS packaging. I do think it’s pretty to look at.
The blush doesn’t contain enough pigmentation for my taste. I feel like I almost have to pile it on, and I’m pretty pale. I think that for most people, this would only work as a highlighter. I do think that it gives me the perfect amount of color and it’s a good shade on me, but I have to apply what seems like a lot of blush to me to get it to show up. I do feel like it gives me a natural lit from within glow.
I think the silky texture is good because it’s very finely milled, but it’s also bad because it’s easy to end up with a lot of dust kicking around if you apply it the way Hourglass recommends – by swirling your brush all over.
I chose this blush because I thought it was the only cool toned blush and I thought it would look good on me. And it does. But the fact that it’s not as pigmented as I had hoped leaves me disappointed. I’ve seen other shades in the collection and they have a greater amount of pigmentation. I would not recommend purchasing this shade unless you are ok with the subtle pigmentation and shade.
What do you think of the Houglass Ambient Lighting Blush?
WOW you look ah-ma-zing in that last shot!! <3
Thanks! I just wish I didn’t feel like I was piling on the blush to get it to show up
It doesn’t look pigmented for a brand that is very expensive, I’ve seen drugstore blushes that are also cruelty-free with way more pigment, but also it does look like it gives a lovely glow.
I agree. I held off initially because I have a lot of highlighters and a lot of blush. While the Ambient Blushes are pretty, the aren’t ground-breaking. I really like Too Faced Sweetheart’s Blush in Candy Glow for this affect. More pigmented than Ethereal Glow and it’s fabulous layered on top of any other blush I’ve tried it with.
That does suck for the price. Wow. From what I’ve seen, the powders look really nice. Especially the one you wore in a video. I agree with Alison M. For less money the Sweetheart’s Blush in Candy Glow is a better product for us that are quite pale. BTW: You look so pretty!
It looks beautiful in the packaging and on you in the close-up picture, but if one is dishing out $35 for blush, it would be nice to have better pigmentation. :/
I ended up getting Radiant Magenta because I originally wanted this one, but it wasn’t in stock when I went to order – the Radiant Magenta one is super pigmented, I love it!! You should definitely try one of the others, you might like it more
I think it looks great! I’m always so bummed my Sephora never has things when they LAUNCH. Ugh. I really want to see these!
I was so sad that I did not get Ethereal glow, I posted on my Twitter (@ThePopPenguin) the Diffused Heat I picked up and it is almost too much for my face. But I agree the feel is amazing but there is a bit of dust if you swirl versus pat your brush into the pan. I am torn if I will pick up Dim Light or Ethereal Glow or just get the ALP which is really what I think I will be mosst happy with. Love the blog Phyrra, always look forward to your posts.
