Shadow Transformation… the art of foiling, only I prefer to do it without water. This comparison of shadow transforming products has been a long time in the making. I’m comparing Fyrinnae‘s Pixie Epoxy (holy grail!), Hi-Fi’s High Impact Shadow Fix, Sobe Botanical’s Stick it and Medusa’s Makeup The Fix. I used 2 pressed shadows and 2 loose shadows for the skin swatches. I used various shadows, both pressed and loose, for the wear testing. This is done in a similar fashion to my eye shadow primer comparison V2.0.
Poison Absinthe
Today I played around with a different makeup technique and Pixie Epoxy. I love the results. I should have used a bit of foundation under my eyes or concealer, because I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night.
Some Fyrinnae Swatches
I ordered some Fyrinnae a while back, as I wanted to get a new tube of the Velvet Gel Silica Primer. I also got some samples of some shadows, of course. I swatched them for you, and also swatched a few extra colors from my collection, too.
Psyche Slime vs. Glitterboi
I ended up being able to do a bright and fun look today. I knew I wanted to use Psyche Minerals Slime and UltraViolet Rhapsody. I decided that I needed Fyrinnae Glitterboi for the crease and Venomous Pegasus for the browbone. I applied the Pegasus first on the browbone and crease, then I applied Pixie Epoxy to the lid and crease. I filled in the lid with Slime, leaving a space at the center of the lid to apply UltraViolet Rhapsody as a ‘highlight’ color on the lid. Then I worked on applying Glitterboi in the crease.
Fyrinnae Glass Coffin
Today I needed to look nice and dress up a bit since I was helping to conduct interviews. I went for what I thought was a fairly sophisticated grey look with Fyrinnae’s Glass Coffin as the central eye color. Glass Coffin is a dove grey with vibrant pink shimmer. It’s lovely.
My New Years Eve 2010/Day 2011 Look
This is what I wore for New Years. I stayed in at a friend’s house with friends and loved ones, rather than go out. It was a fantastic party. My liner was a little wonky, but whatever. Happy 2011 everyone
We didn’t get home until after 4am, so I definitely had fun and am a bit tired.
Faerie Peacock
Today I put together a beautiful reader request of Faerie Glamour & Bustle. It turned into a gorgeous peacock look. I’d probably do a few things different, but not much, if I tried this again. It’s visually stunning in person. I started this look out differently than normal. While I’ll often use a white or skintone type shade on the crease and browbone to make it easier to blend colors, after I did that, I did sort of a swish ~ type of shape with Knight Divine. I wanted to have a slightly darker base color to blend Faerie Glamour and Bustle onto in the crease. I love the results.
As far as Feline goes, it lasts on my upper lash line no problem. It does smudge a bit on my lower lash line, even with primer. HOWEVER, this is why I don’t put mascara on my lower lash line, because it smears there, too. I really like Feline on my upper lash line. I haven’t tried it on my waterline yet.
NC15/NW20 is a bit darker/yellower than I expected, but if I blend it out with a brush, I like the results. Apparently, it can be used for a matte highlight anywhere on the face, too.
Giving Back
I wanted to talk a little about giving back. Some indie companies do this and I really respect them for it. Fyrinnae and BftE Cosmetics are two of the companies that I know that give back in some form.
BftE Cosmetics gives back at the community level. BftE donates to their local library, to the dog pound, to the food pantry, to a church, to The Beauty Movement, to the Russel Child Development group, to the Season of Life Living Center Syracuse, and to the Syracuse Drama Club. All of this in Syracuse, Kansas. Donating on the local level really makes a difference and helps in their community.
Fyrinnae gives back on a global scale. They donate to the World Wildlife Fund to help protect animals and the environment. The WWF works at every level, local to globally to help both people and nature.
Giving back, locally or on a global scale, may be something you already do. Donating to your local church, library, organizations like the WWF or Freecycle will really make a difference to someone, even if it’s not someone you know personally.
Freecycle is particularly neat. If you’ve not heard of it, it’s a site for people to post perfectly good stuff that they have that they no longer need so that others who need it can come and get it. It’s to help keep perfectly good stuff out of landfills. I’ve seen people ‘cycling paint, lawnmowers, bookshelves, fans and other various furniture.
Anyway I just thought on this day, it might be cool to talk about giving back.
Hope you’re all having a wonderful day!
My Christmas Eve Look
For Christmas Eve, I went to a party at my friend’s house with a bunch of my friends. I made lots of red velvet chocolate chip cookies. I played in my eye shadows, a LOT, for this look. Like, I used a million different shadows, all layered, to try and add extra dimension and depth in ways I don’t normally do. Unfortunately, the camera fell flat at actually picking up all the awesomeness. The following image is the only one that comes close to capturing the depth and shadows that were at play.
