A Girl's Gotta Spa Energizing Citrus Body Lotion Review

I’m excited to finally be able to talk to you about A Girl’s Gotta Spa Energizing Citrus Body Lotion. Energizing Citrus Body Lotion is the brain child of Shannon from A Girl’s Gotta Spa blog. It’s a luxury body lotion (and there’s even a shower gel too). Shannon is a friend of mine as well as a fellow beauty blogger and I was very happy for her when she started her company, especially when she went for Leaping Bunny Certification.

A Girl’s Gotta Spa is cruelty free and Leaping Bunny Certified.

About A Girl’s Gotta Spa Energizing Citrus Body Lotion
A Girl’s Gotta Spa!® Energizing Citrus Body Lotion is a natural, light, sheer lotion which absorbs easily to help restore your skin’s natural moisture balance. It’s blended with olive oil, African shea butter and unprocessed natural cocoa butter, which smoothes, hydrates and helps to improve skin elasticity. Powerful essential oils treat the skin and enlighten the senses. Use SPF after using this lotion if you are going to go outside as Vitamin C can cause photosensitivity.

  • Sulfate free
  • Paraben free
  • Petrochemical free
  • Synthetic Fragrance free
  • Synthetic Dye free
  • Cruelty free
  • 94% Natural
  • Vegan
  • Leaping Bunny Certified

I’m very pleased that in addition to being cruelty free and vegan, Shannon chose to get her products Leaping Bunny Certified. Leaping Bunny Certification is a big deal to me because it means that Shannon took the time to verify that her suppliers do not test their ingredients on animals. I want everyone to be nice to bunnies!

When creating her line, it was important to Shannon to create products that were as natural as possible, as well as paraben free. Because these are natural, they have a shelf life of 6 months from when they are opened. They should be stored in a dark, cool place and not exposed to sun or heat.

Shannon wanted to make a body lotion that would penetrate deeply into the skin and hydrate it. She wanted people to feel invigorated when they smelled the citrus scent.

When I used Energizing Citrus Body Lotion for the first time, I immediately loved the scent, which is a mix of pink grapefruit, orange, lemon and lime, all 100% pure essential oils. It’s a sweet orange scent to me. The scent lingers for me, which I like, and later I can smell a hint of lime.

The formula is very moisturizing. I love the combination of shea butter, olive oil, and cocoa butter together. It’s very emollient and feels good when you rub it into your skin. It doesn’t leave my hands or body feeling greasy. I’m really impressed that such a light formula can moisturize my skin so well, especially my heels which always need extra TLC!

If you are looking for a high quality, luxury, natural, vegan body lotion, this is definitely the product to check out. I’m thoroughly impressed with the formula.

Pros

  • Leaping Bunny Certified
  • Cruelty free
  • Vegan
  • 94% natural
  • Free of sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, synthetic fgragrances, synthetic dyes
  • Deeply moisturizing formula

Cons

  • More expensive than your average body lotion
  • If you don’t like citrus scents you may not like this

I wanted to share my Madd Style Cosmetics Madd Cat July Box with you. In 2011 I first tried Madd Style Cosmetics, but due to some glittermobbing fans I didn’t try them again until this month. This is my experience with their products. I am happy to say that Madd Style cosmetics is cruelty free and vegan. I was sad to find out that they’re closing.

Pricing
$12 for the monthly Madd Cat box
$5 full size eyeshadow

Madd Style Cosmetics Madd Cat July Box Swatches Review

My Madd Cat Monthly July box contained

  • Party Dress, Dancing Shoes (exclusive full size shades)($5 each)
  • Glitter & Doom, Poodle Parade (deluxe samples)($2.00 each)
  • In the Buff (clamshell sample)($1)

Value $10

Since the Madd Cat Box cost $10 plus $2 shipping, and I estimate the value of my box to be $10, I basically broke even. I was disappointed that I received a deluxe sample in Poodle Parade since I had recently purchased that in a full size. With an indie company, I expected to not receive any of the same colors that I’d recently purchased.

I was going to give the Madd Style Cosmetics Madd Cat box another month to see how the value would be, but when I heard they were closing I decided to cancel my subscription.

I do really like the eyeshadows that I purchased. The pigmentation is great and so is the formula. On primer I experienced all day wear.

Pros

  • Cruelty free
  • Vegan
  • Great pigmentation and formula
  • Lots of colors available

Cons

  • Closing soon
  • May receive colors you already own in the Madd Cat Box

Cruelty Free Skin Savers

Happy Makeup Wars Monday! This time we’re talking about Skin Savers. From lips to tips, I’ve got you covered. There are a few products that I reach for when I need a saver, usually from dry skin, but sometimes from sensitive and irritated skin. These are the products that never break me out or cause my skin any issues.

Paula’s Choice Moisture Boost Hydrating Treatment Cream
It provides a protective barrier against the harsh effects of the environment with its unique combination of plant oils, antioxidants, emollients, cell-communicating ingredients and skin-identical ingredients.

This is ultra hydrating and rich, especially for the eyes. It was a life saver for me during the dry winter months.

NARS Aqua Gel Luminous Oil-Free Moisturizer
A refreshing, aqua-rich gel-cream that hydrates, revitalizes and fortifies the skin.

I’ve used this several times as a moisture mask, both during the day and at night.

Supergoop! Mintfusion Lip Balm
Ultra-moisturizing Broad Spectrum SPF 30 lip balm with cooling spearmint leaf oil
Ideal for all skin types, particularly sensitive skin. Gluten-Free, Paraben-Free, Cruelty-Free and Vegan. (Vegan)

The mix of of shea butter, aloe vera and coconut oil are able to penetrate my lips and deeply moisturize rather than sitting on top. I haven’t found a lip product that I like better at night aside from the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask, which I won’t repurchase because of the shoddy packaging. I’m still looking for that perfect ultra moisturizing lip mask.

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentrate
This velvety moisturizer gives skin the ultimate silky finish, thanks to generous amounts of soothing shea butter and aloe vera. Plus, it doubles as a makeup remover, post-shave soother, and all-over body lotion. It’s rich without being heavy.

The amazing James Vincent turned me on to Embryolisse and I love it. I’ve gone through 5 tubes at this point and I always like to have at least 2 tubes in the house. It really feels wonderful and makes my skin feel plumped up, soothed and soft.

Cocoa Pink Voluptuous Body Butter
The carefully chosen combination of vitamin-rich oils in our Voluptuous Body Butter formula imparts a non-greasy texture that last all day. Over 30% organic refined shea butter, babassu, rice bran oil, avocado, meadowfoam and calendula. (Vegan)

While I love Cocoa Pink’s Whipped Dream (coconut oil, brazilian babassu oil and argan oil) and Coco Mango Body Butter (cocoa butter, mango butter, babassu oil, avocado oil, rice bran oil, meadowfoam oil, calendula oil, aloe extract), after trying all 3 I prefer the Voluptuous Body Butter for hydrating my body.

Fortune Cookie Soap OMGWTFudge-Banana Milk Bath
This shake of a milk bath contains banana pulp powder (great moisturizing for dry skin), cocoa powder (skin softening), Epsom salt (relaxes and soothes muscles) and finally some whole milk powder (moisturizer).

This really is wonderful for moisturizing my skin and relaxing me.

KBShimmer Cuticle Oil Pen (press sample)
KBShimmer starts with a base of avocado oil, and added shea butter, apricot oil, wheat germ oil, evening primrose oil, argan oil, jojoba and olive oil.  Vitamin E and special essential oil blend that includes lemongrass finishes off the base of the cuticle oil. Pink sugar has notes  of sweet cotton candy, lemon, caramel and raspberry, fused together with an  undertone of musk and vanilla.

This smells delicious and it’s easy to apply. It really helps to keep your nails and cuticles healthy.

Rainbow Honey Cuticle Balms
Cold Pressed Avocado Oil. Tropical Cupuacu Butter. Babassu Oil. Organic Coconut Oil. Plus our secret weapon, Maracuja Oil. And topped it off with some Vitamin E. (Vegan)

While you can use a cuticle oil or a cuticle balm, you can benefit overnight from using an oil and then topping it with a balm. I love these and have a ton of scents thanks to my Rainbow Honey Mini-Mystery Bag Subscription.

What are your skin savers? Any great cruelty free ones to share? Let me know below!

As many of you know, I have rosacea. For those of you who don’t know what rosacea is, it is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition with the common symptom of persistent facial redness. While this may not sound like a big deal, my face is red and flushed all the time. If I don’t wear makeup, people comment on it and sometimes say rude things. I’m not alone in dealing with rosacea; it affects an estimated 16 million Americans and, of course, it affects more women than men.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve worn foundation to hide the blotchiness on my cheeks. I didn’t know it was rosacea until I was diagnosed almost two years ago. My rosacea was initially identified by a talented makeup artist at Neiman Marcus when I was at a blogger event. Because of her, I went to see a dermatologist who said that, yes, I did have rosacea and then explained that’s why my face was always red and angry-looking.

Rosacea has triggers, which can cause flare ups. In addition to red cheeks, you can end up with blemishes. Some possible triggers are stress, hot weather, heavy exercise, humidity, alcohol, hot tubs, sun exposure, spicy foods, cold weather, skincare products, makeup, the list goes on and on. If you don’t know what your triggers are, you need to keep a rosacea journal to help you narrow them down. I know that I’m sensitive to makeup wipes, cold weather, very hot weather, hot tubs, heavy exercise and stress.

Don’t despair though! Rosacea is treatable. You can talk to your doctor about prescription medications that will work for you, including Mirvaso, the only FDA approved treatment specifically developed and indicated for the persistent facial redness of rosacea. I recently got a Mirvaso prescription and I love it. The first day I wore it, I was so happy I cried because I didn’t need to wear foundation! I applied it all over my face (avoiding the eyes), and along my jaw line. For the first time in years, my skin looked great without the help of a complexion perfection product. The reduction in redness lasted 6 hours for me; for some people, it stays away for up to 12 hours.

Wearing a touch of MAC Lightscapade to add a glow to my face, along with OCC Colour Pencil in Hoochie with Morgana Cryptoria Nyx lipstick on top. I’ve got Too Faced Shadow Insurance Candlelight, Urban Decay Honey and UD Perversion mascara on my eyes. I filled in my brows with with Anastasia Dip Brow in Dark brown. I am excited to be able to forgo foundation.

Rockabilly – sheer peachy nude beige, not a lot of pigmentation
Rap – gold with orangey bronzey tones
Ska – brown with golden tones

New Wave – sheer pinky beige with silver sparkle, not a lot of pigmentation
Pop – brown with burgundy / plum tones, wish this was burgundy or plum with no brown tones
Heavy Metal – blue iridescence and blue-violet sparkles on a charcoal base, I wish the blue was stronger than the black, but the blue didn’t want to show up. The violet shows up.

My Thoughts
I really like this palette! It’s got some unusual shades for Too Faced. First, the Fashion colors are not ones I normally see Too Faced release. New Wave and Rockabilly are both sheer, but they’re base shades so I think they’re meant to be sheer. While I was slightly disappointed with Pop (too brown, why does it look like such a pretty plum in the pan but turn so brown on my skin?) and Heavy Metal (the blue iridescence should have been stronger, it looks so awesome in the pan), the rest of the shades are great.

What do you think of the Too Faced Rock n’ Roll Eyeshadow Palette? Do you like the colors?

Pros

  • Cruelty free
  • Paraben free
  • More Unique colors
  • Good value
  • Overall good texture

Cons

  • Two colors didn’t translate well from the pan to the skin

Saucebox Almond Look with the Etude Palette

I wanted to share my Saucebox Almond look with you. I used the Saucebox Etude palette to quickly put together this look. Yes I think I’ve finally nailed the most flattering eyeshadow color placement for my hooded eye shape. It only took me 6 years!

Nyx Eyebrow Gel in Black is pretty amazing. I think I’m in love with it. I hate that I can’t get my brows waxed and I’m having to pluck individual hairs (and there’s a bunch I need to pluck) right now.

I’m in love with the UD Perversion Mascara. Right now you can get it as a bundle from Sephora with Subversion primer.

Hair Transformation

From December 2013 to July 2014

Every time I feel like my hair is taking forever to grow out I remind myself that I had a very short pixie cut in September 2013. In December I had grown it out a bit, but my hair is still full of layers. So the fact that I’m almost brushing my shoulders / the back of my neck isn’t bad. I keep taking biotin. Grow faster, please! I love my color, regardless. I can’t believe how amazing the Pravana still looks.
