Things You Don't Want to Miss

Happy Labor Day! I haven’t done a roundup for a while, but here are some things you don’t want to miss!

Cover FX Calming Primer is now available at CoverFX.com!

Also, Charlotte Tilbury launches tomorrow at Beautylish! You can shop the brand here. They’re cruelty free and Wayne Goss raves about them, so I expect their products to be amazing.

I revamped my site again this weekend. The mobile experience should be better and I fixed issues with the desktop experience. I would love to hear your thoughts on the changes.

Beauty Reads from Around the Blog-o-Sphere

Finally, as some people have asked recently, there are many different ways I recommend to follow my blog! The easiest way is with BlogLovin, a blog reader, because you can follow my blog and all the other blogs you love in one place.

You can also subscribe by email or RSS.

How have you been enjoying this long weekend? Did you indulge in any sales?

Perfect Fall Lips

Perfect Fall Lips with Ingrid and Black Dahlia

After being off of my rosacea (Metrogel Cream) for several months, I feel like my rosacea meds were thinning my skin out. I’ve only been taking my Oracea, and while I’ve had bad skin days, my skin has mostly ‘been bad’ after I’ve worked out (which is a trigger for my skin). I’m taking Oracea every other day, and that’s keeping the zits at bay, which really helps. So I’m definitely happier overall with my skin. I do not like that my skin was becoming more delicate and felt thinner.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Technopagan

Technopagan – metallic blackened purple with blue pearl

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Distortion

Distortion is gorgeous. I love these sort of blackened shades.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pagan

Pagan is easily one of the most beautiful colors for Fall. I’m not even normally a fan of creme polish, but I love this purple shade so much I went out and bought the matching lip tar.Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Technopagan

Technopagan is amazing. It matches my hair so well! I took it with me the last time I got a manicure and got so many compliments on it. It’s a stunning shade. This is definitely my favorite because of the depth of the color and its uniqueness.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lydia

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lydia

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lydia

Lydia is described as a darkroom plum. It makes me think of sepia toned pictures and the 1920s. I love these colour pencils because they work so well with lip tars and lipsticks. This shade in particular looks great with vampy shades like NARS Ingrid.

Wearing Pagan Lip tar and Pagan Nail Polish

Wearing Pagan Lip tar and Pagan Nail Polish

Wearing Pagan nail polish and lip tar together.

I found Pagan a bit difficult to get to apply evenly, but once on I thought it looked gorgeous, especially with the matching nail polish. I will probably end up turning my Pagan into a lip tar pencil to make it easier for me to apply. The color is so great though!

My favorites out of the collection are Technopagan and Pagan, because I just adore purples. I love seeing them in such stunning shades. I am so happy OCC created these two shades. I really like Distortion as well. I really need to buy Technopagan lip tar, because it’s amazing.

If you’re not a fan of purples or blues (which you know I am definitely a blue purple lover!), this collection also has a dark green metallic, neutral tan and grey, as well as a bright red-orange (maybe inspired by maple leaves?), too, so there’s sure to be a shade to suit every taste.

What do you think of the OCC Unknown Pleasures Fall collection? Which shades are your favorites?

Wearing False lashes

Wearing False lashes

Question of the Week: False Lashes: Love ‘em or leave ‘em?
Answer of the Week: I love the look of false lashes but I don’t find them easy to apply. I wish I did! Additionally, 2 years ago I developed an allergy to lash glue. When I do wear lashes, I use Fantabulash eyelash tape, which is great. When I wear lashes, I’m most likely to apply demi lashes. My favorite lashes are the ones by Sugarpill.

While I do have 1 friend who wears false lashes every day (yes, every day), I don’t tend to think of them as something to wear all the time and I sometimes feel like they overwhelm certain eyeshadow looks.

About oVertone
We are color fanatics, and we are busy people.  Busy people who understand busy people who are also color fanatics. We know what it’s like. Wake up, get to the salon, (or go to your bathroom sink) and sit for a while to have GORGEOUS color that puts a smile on your face and a spring in your step.  You’re the happiest happy you’ve ever happied. That is, until you have to wash your hair. You’ve held out as long as you could, but there’s nothing to be done anymore. And then, well, your color fades. And two weeks later, to keep your vibrancy, you repeat the whole process. Your hair becomes dry and faded and sad from all the time spent dying. On top of that, think of all the time you’ve wasted traveling to the salon! Meet oVertone – our color-keeping conditioning secret. It’s a two-parter: use the Daily Conditioner whenever you would normally use conditioner, and make a once-a-week spa date for yourself and Go Deep – our hyper-hydrating extra color boost treatment.  Our packaging is made from cosmetic grade sustainable materials (post consumer recycled and post industrial resin plastics), our conditioners contain over 70% organic material, and our products are NEVER tested on animals. As a company, we are also committed to giving back to organizations we believe make the world a better place.

Purple Hair Dream Hair

oVertone comes in the following colors – purple, teal, blue, pink, red and orange. In addition to those colors, each color comes in 3 strengths – pastel, vibrant and extreme. I am, of course, a fan of the extreme.

I received the Extreme Daily Conditioner, Extreme Daily Travel Conditioner (I don’t see this on the site currently, and their sample bottles are out of stock), and the Extreme Weekly treatment.

I don’t wash my hair daily (I wash about every 7 to 8 days right now). I’m also using Pravana Vivid Violet and Wild Orchid in my hair, which last longer for me than Manic Panic, Punky Color, Special Effects or anything else.

The Daily conditioner is nice but the Extreme Weekly Treatment is my true love. OMG. Let me explain why.

The Extreme Weekly treatment does deposit color. It will not lighten hair (I have to say this because I don’t want anyone to misunderstand). It is not a bleach, it is not damaging.

While this is not a dye, it does help refresh your color. I mix the Extreme Weekly treatment with either Phyrra’s Pretty Little Elixir Vegan Hair Masque or with Cocoa Pink Argan Therapy Creme conditioner. I do this because I absolutely love my Hair to have a specific scent to it (Black Chocolate Raspberries or Cinderella’s Carriage. YUM!).

According to the oVertone founders, the reason oVertone is better than dye plus conditioner is that the Vibrant and Extreme lines contain between 3xs and 15x the pigment you would end up with when you mix semi-permanent dye and regular conditioner.  And with pastels, the pigmentation is perfect and completely takes the guesswork out of things. You can, of course, mix 2 or more colors of oVertone, too, to match your custom color perfectly.

The Extreme Weekly treatment has been amazing for me. On my roots, which are such a dark brown that people mistake my hair color for black, it will deposit dark purple color, slightly tinting my hair. This means I can go longer in between coloring. I’ve just been using this on my hair, even though I do have 2 different shades of purple. I will probably pick up the pink Extreme mask for the bottom of my hair at some point, but Purple has been working nicely with Violet and Wild Orchid.

The last time I colored my hair, I only did it because I had such extreme root growth (11 or 12 weeks worth), that I needed to bleach the roots and apply Pravana Vivid Violet to them. The rest of my hair color looked pretty good.

I highly recommend the Extreme Weekly treatment. I use it every other time I wash my hair now.

I love this line so much that I’ve partnered with oVertone to give away 2 sets of products! 2 winners will receive a set of oVertone in the color of their choice!

Each set contains

  • 1 Weekly Treatment 8oz
  • 1 Daily Conditioner 8oz
  • 1 Travel Conditioner 2oz

In my video I swatched all products on Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy.

If you like this video, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe!

I swatched all products below left to right on Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, Too Faced White Lie and Urban Decay Perversion. This shows you how the colors look with a mixing medium, a white base and a black base. However, I feel like the video helps to show off these colors to their fullest extent.

Fyrinnae Princess for a Day Swatches Review Video

Fyrinnae Princess for a Day Swatches Review Video

Princess For A Day
Turquoise-blue sparkle tops a sheer burgundy hue for a striking effect. Closer to light or at certain angles, it turns vivid pink. Very sparkly finish.
My Take
sheer pink burgundy base with strong turquoise blue sparkles and shine. The turquoise blue is prominent and you can see the burgundy from the side

Fyrinnae Breathtaking Swatches Review Video

Fyrinnae Breathtaking Swatches Review Video

Breathtaking
Away from direct light, vibrant pink sparkle and shimmer appear to glow on sheer beige. Closer to light or at certain angles, it shifts to a bright golden peach shade.
My Take
peachy beige base with strong pink sparkles. I see the peachy beige from the side.

Fyrinnae On Wings of Silk Swatches Review Video

Fyrinnae On Wings of Silk Swatches Review Video

On Wings of Silk – Pink sparkles mingle with a transparent pale bronze away from direct light. Closer to light or at certain angles, it shifts to gleaming greenish gold with with hues of peach.
My Take
golden bronze with pink and peach sparkles

Fyrinnae Elegant Revelry Swatches Review Video

Fyrinnae Elegant Revelry Swatches Review Video

Elegant Revelry
varying shades of green sparkle on a transparent light reddish brown base hue away from direct light. Closer to light or at certain angles, it becomes light blue and ruddy pink.
My Take
light tan brown with red tones for a base, turquoise green and green sparkles

Fyrinnae Dreamwoven Luxuries Swatches Review Video

Fyrinnae Dreamwoven Luxuries Swatches Review Video

Dreamwoven Luxuries – Away from direct light, this appears a complex blend of red and blue hues. Closer to light or at certain angles, it changes to shades of green and gold. Shimmery finish, somewhat metallic when foiled or over a sticky base. This shade is the most opaque of the new five.
My Take
aged bronze base with hints of green and gold

Fyrinnae Royalty and Greek Goddess blushes

Royalty – Greek Goddess blushes

Royalty
Vibrant violet blush which doesn’t blend down to a warm shade. It will rub down to a blue-violet hue, but with gentle blending or heavier application will remain more purple. Nearly matte, deeper and cooler than Seduce.

Greek Goddess
Vibrant pink with a very slight pink shimmer, this shade was designed to work well on a wide range of skintones.

Fyrinnae Feisty Fennec Fox and OCC Makeup Ironic

Feisty Fennec Fox – OCC Ironic

Someone had asked for a comparison swatch between Fyrinnae Feisty Fennec Fox and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Ironic.

Fyrinnae Lip Lustres

Fyrinnae Lip Lustres

Triceratops – Burrowing Owl – Galaxy Evolution – Chickadee – Ghost’s kiss

Triceratops

Deep metallic forest green. May require two coats for optimal darkness. This is not a dye-based shade like many of our Lustres, so isn’t likely to be as opaque or stain.
My Take
deep forest green

Burrowing Owl
Cool violet with a grey-mauve hue. May appear somewhat more purple depending on natural lip color, and not as cool as it looks here. Slightly metallic finish, but no sparkle.
My Take
dark purple

Galaxy Evolution
Dark, vibrant royal blue with a metallic finish. Slightly darker than it looks in the product photo.
My Take
dark blue

Chickadee
Bright “creamsicle” orange. Nearly pastel, but applies slightly deeper than it appears in the tube.
My Take
bright light orange, slightly stained my skin

Ghost’s kiss
Slightly shimmery “nude” with hues of copper and pink. Transparent, but not entirely sheer. Neither overly warm or cool, so it’s suitable for a wide range of skintones.
My Take
soft nude copper with hints of pink (not a new shade but I wanted to swatch it and show it because it’s beautiful)

The Exquisities are definitely some of the most complex and coolest shades from Fyrinnae in a long time. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with these.

Sadly I was disappointed with Galaxy Evolution, but I liked the rest of the lip lustres. I’m also happy that I shopped my stash and rediscovered Ghost’s Kiss. It’s a beautiful shade.

What do you think of the new Fyrinnae Exquisities eyeshadows? How about the lip lustres? Which shades would you wear?

Dose of Colors recently released Matte Liquid Lipsticks. Being that I love matte liquid lipsticks, I purchased the 4 pack which I believe includes Kiss of Fire, Merlot,  Purple Rain and Berry Me, though I’m not actually certain what shades will be in it. Pinky Promise isn’t yet available, but if it had been I would have purchased it as well. These  are, of course, vegan.

I’m curious to see how close Purple Rain is to Pretty Zombie 3 Witches, as well as Berry Me to Pretty Zombie Purple Poison. Of course, I’m also wondering if Pinky Promise will be similar to that new color released by Limecrime. Also, I’m hoping the difference in Kiss of Fire and Merlot are more significant in person than they are on the Dose of Colors website.

So far, I’ve loved all previous lip products that I’ve purchased from Dose of Colors (from their glosses and lipsticks) so I anticipate that I will love these too, which is why I jumped at them. See my previous review.

They really do make wonderfully pigmented glosses and lipsticks.

Did you know that Dose of Colors had released Matte Liquid Lipsticks? Are you interested in them?

Sugarpill Favorites Tutorial

Happy Teal Thursday! Today I’ve got a Sugarpill Favorites tutorial to share with you. I used 3 of my all time favorite Sugarpill shades – Lumi, Afterparty and Soot & Stars to create this look. I also used a new video camera for the first time. I had the camera zoomed in way too close and then the lighting looked wonky. However, I love this so much I had to share it with you regardless of the video not being up my standards.

In the video, you can see how red/pink my skin looks from my rosacea.

Limnit Lipsticks Bewitching Hour and FreestyleFor the lips I used a base of OCC Makeup Pool Boy pencil. Then I applied Limnit Lipsticks Bewitching Hour around the edges. I next blended Limnit Lipsticks Freestyle with Bewitching Hour. I added Lumi to the center of the lips.

I hope you like the look despite the complications I had with the new camera.

Regardless of how bad my skin looked before foundation, I’m really pleased that the combination of primer and foundation made it look pretty darn flawless. Love my Cover FX!

Today I will be having my second round of IPL to treat my rosacea. Wish me luck! I’m hoping it leads me to happier, less ruddy skin.

What was the last teal / turquoise / aqua product you wore?
