Today is my actual birthday! I just had to share a quick picture of the birthday cake that Ray and Dave got me for my birthday. They had a tokidoki themed rainbow cake made for me! It’s delicious!

Today I’ve lots of pretty polishes from Literary Lacquers for you. They make some amazing holographic nail polish! Literary Lacquers creates polishes that are inspired by books, hence the name.

I think this is the first orange holo that I’ve ever seen and the holo is strong in this one!

If It Pleases You – a deep plum with a touch of brown (or bruise colored if you will) linear holographic polish. (inspired by The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by Anne Rice)

This is a truly beautiful plum purple. Again, the holo is very strong.

Laters, Baby – a deep charcoal linear holographic nail polish with added fine holographic glitter for extra sparkle love. (inspired by 50 Shades of Grey)

This is my favorite of all the holographics. You can layer it on top of blck but it’s pigmented on its own. I LOVE the holographic glitter in it. It’s very fine and tiny, and I think it gives it that extra special touch. I can stare at the bottle, enraptured by it.

Bionic Mmmm Detector – a black jelly polish packed with aqua, teal, blue and green microglitter. (inspired by Vox by Nicholson Baker)

This is super pretty but it definitely leans green to me.

Woman of Pleasure – a periwinkle crelly (creme jelly) base with navy and lavender sparkle, matte light pink, large navy hexes, and magenta circle glitter. Full coverage in 2 thicker or 3 thin coats. I like to drag the almost dry brush over the last coat to fully uncover the glitter there for maximum sparkle. The polish has a little more purple in it than it appears in these photos. (inspired by Fanny Hill: Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure written by John Cleland in 1748)

This is a light blue crelly. I think it would probably work best layerd on top of a light blue or white polish, so that you get the full effect of the glitter.

What Fools These Mortals Be – This polish is a glitter riot. Holographic pink and purple sparkle form the base, with light green, aqua, fuchsia, and tons of black glitter thrown in for a pageant of color. It looks best in a thin coat or two over another solid color and is truly amazing in the sun! This polish contains a lot of glitter and will require effort to remove; but it’s worth it. (inspired by Puck from Shakespeare, a Midsummer Night’s Dream)

This is such a beautiful glitter. I tihnk those large aqua glitters mixed in with the purple really do it for me. It’s worth it as an accent (or full mani, if you don’t mind removing glitter).

Anne With an E Glitter Top Coat – Sheer milky base with tons of opalescent glitter and a touch of chrome silver glitter

This is breathtakingly beautiful.

Raspberry Cordial? – Raspberry Linear Holographic with added holo glitter

This is a beautiful raspberry pink holo.

Lake of Shining Waters – Murky Teal Linear Holographic

To me this is an emerald with teal tones.

Green Gables – Grass Green Linear Holographic

As you can see, Literary Lacqurs really knows their holos! They’re all gorgeous. I think her glitters are nice, too. The formula is good. They have good pigmentation. I don’t think they’re too thick or too thin. They’re beautiful.

I hadn’t used OCC Makeup Jubilee in a while, so I broke it out to play with Stila Countless Color Pigment in Light Show. I LOVE the textures of the Countless Color pigments. I can’t rave about them enough. They’re smooth and velvety. They’re very easy to work with and blend with each other.

How to Achieve the Look
1. Apply Urban Decay Walk of Shame to the browbone. Apply Stila Light Show deep sea blue to the crease and outer corner of the lid.
2. Apply Stila Light Show green to the upper crease.
3. Use Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy on the lid, then apply OCC Jubilee to the lid and inner v.
4. Apply Stila Light Show teal blue to the lower lash line.
5. Add Swagger Cosmetics Eye Kandy lashes and Jesse’s Girl Waterproof Liquid eyeliner. Line the lower waterline with Tarina Tarantino Tommy Jet.

Meow describes this collection as a color palette of soft focus, everyday colors. The colors are reminiscent of the UD Naked palettes and what many consider to be perfect office wear colors. My favorites in this collection are Jaybird, Explicit, Disrobed, Unclad, Topless, and Bare. The only color that I feel is missing from this collection is a pale peachy beige matte shade.

Jaybird and Explicit look fantastic with blue-green eyes. I think Stark is going to be very popular, same with Nudist. Bare, Disrobed and Topless have a wonderful pearl finish that will make them perfect highlighters.

Happy Monday everyone! The weekly roundup is a bit late this week, thanks to an eventful weekend. We celebrated Father’s Day on Sunday. We also went to see the Man of Steel. I thought it was a great movie, though they really kept driving home the point that Superman was often an outsider, sad, and struggled with who he was. It was very cool. We also watched the season Premiere of True Blood last night. It wasn’t as good as I was hoping, but it wasn’t terrible. (unlike the last book in the series which I found to be awful)

We all want to know when it’s the best time to splurge or save on beauty items. Often when you’re shopping at Ulta, you can get some great steals with BOGOs (buy one get one) deals, which make it the best time to stock up on brands or products you like. Othertimes, there are really great items that are worth a splurge, such as a multi-purpose palette. Today I’ve got a great splurge, as well as some awesome steals for you. I was presented with a gift certificate to Ulta by Coupons.com, which inspired this post.

Aqualillies for Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eye & Cheek Palette – $38

When it comes to a splurge the tarte Aqualillies for Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eye & Cheek Palette is definitely worth it! With 6 eyeshadows, a blush, bronzer and a highlighter, you can create multiple full face long wearing looks. You’ve got 5 lovely neutrals and one pop of bright with the turquoise. My favorite eyeshadow shade in this palette is actually Bikini. It’s a beautiful peachy-gold with pink shimmer and I love how it brightens up the eyes.

I also love that there is blush, highlight and contour all rolled into this palette. I found Captivating to be a very flattering blush shade on me. Champagne works perfectly as a highlighter. As long as I used a very light hand, I could contour my cheeks a bit with Park Ave Princess.

The colors in the tarte Aqualillies palette are definitely worth a splurge because they’ll be flattering on many different skintones. You also get versatility with the 3 cheek products and the 6 eyeshadows. There’s not a single dud in the entire palette.

Now on to my steals! All are swatched on Gosh eyeshadow primer. I bought several of the Nyx Love in Rio eyeshadow trios as they were on ‘Buy One Get One 50% Off’, which it looks like Ulta still has them BOGO. I picked up 3 trios that looked like they would contain reasonablly close eyeshadows to the tarte Aqualillies palette and 1 super fun trio.

I’m not exactly sure why one of the eyeshadow trios was $4.79 instead of $5.99, but regardless, getting 2 of the trios for $3 each was pretty awesome! I ended up paying a total of $58.62 including tax and Ulta.com has free shipping if you spend over $50. These are definitely steals for the price because the overall quality is nice in the Nyx Love in Rio trios.

The Nyx Love in Rio trios are great steals, especially when they’re BOGO, while the tarte Aqualillies palette is an awesome splurge. With just under $60 you can create countless look combinations with my picks.
