Sassy Minerals Review – Great New Company

Sassy Minerals Review – Great New Company

Ok, so after playing with my Sassy Minerals samples, I have to say I like them! For being such a new company, they have certainly learned from successful companies and got a lot of things right. They offer a wide variety of colors, a wide variety of foundation shades including shades pale enough for me (which MAC still doesn’t do!), and they’re all lovely. Sassy sent me a wide variety of eye shadows, foundations and blushes to try out. Each sample costs 75 cents, which is very inexpensive. They come in jars, which some people prefer, though I tend to prefer baggies because of storage issues.

Foundation
Their foundation is full coverage and has a pretty nice texture. Even though it’s full coverage (at least on me), it doesn’t seem too stiff or heavy. I don’t feel that it makes me look like I’m wearing a mask.

They’ve got 25 shades, which is pretty nice, with undertones for golden, olive, warm, neutral and cool, as well as five levels of each undertone. I was impressed that I had a match with their foundation, as I often have problems matching with foundations. I match pretty well with their Neutral Fair.

I had trouble getting their foundation to apply evenly the first time, so the next two times I tried it I used a primer. This helped the foundation to apply smoothly and evenly and I ended up using less product than without it.

Their sample size is pretty good. I believe you can easily get 3 to 4 uses out of a foundation sample.

Blushes
Their blushes are pretty! I really liked Tart and Crowning Moment. I’m guessing you could easily get 10 to 15 uses out of a sample, which is more than enough to tell if you like a color of blush or not.

They have a few different finishes to their blushes: shimmer and silk luster. They also have bronzer, and a ‘deja vu’ category. The deja vu category are Sassy versions of popular blush shades. One such color in this category is Tart, which is their version of Nars Orgasm.

While I had problems with their blush Blooming with Creativity, I had no such trouble with Crowning moment or Tart.

Eye Shadows
Sassy has a good amount of colors for a new company, they have 188 eye shadow colors. They have shimmer, silk luster, liner and deja vu colors.

Predictably enough, my favorite colors from them all have strong duotone coloring:
Jinx – heather grey with strong aqua shimmer*
Fierce – smoky grey with red and blue sparkles*
Apparition – soft grey with a subtle shimmering highlight that appears green or mauve
Gasoline Rainbow – smooth black with intense rainbow sparkles

With their extensive range of shades, I think most people will be happy with their colors. While they don’t have too many crazy vibrant colors (they only have one red and one orange, for example), they do have very nicely pigmented colors in a wide variety of hues. You can see my pink, red and orange look here. Their colors are certainly not boring at all! They have several very complex colors. When they contacted me, they told me that they spent a year working on their eye shadows before they even made their company live, and I think that really shows in the variety of colors offered and the complexity of some of their shades.

Honestly, it makes me so happy to hear from Sassy in writing that:
We promise, not one of our pigments is a simple repack or “watered down” and repacked pigment.

If you’re looking for a new company to try, Sassy is definitely someone to check out.

These samples were sent to me for review purposes by Sassy Minerals.

Sassy Hissy Fit, Pixie Sprinkles, Atomic, Ruby Slippers, Why Not?

Sassy Hissy Fit, Pixie Sprinkles, Atomic, Ruby Slippers, Why Not?

This is my look for the day with Sassy Minerals. I wanted to try the orange shade, since I tend to feel like oranges are hard for me to pull off.

Pixie Sprinkles – neutral peachy beige with copper, green and purple sparkles
Hissy Fit – mauve pink with golden shimmer
Atomic – hot orange with icy silver sparkles
Ruby Slippers – ruby red with loads of pink and ruby sparkle*

Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Yeyo – lower water line
Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Lucky – lower lash line

Cheeks:
Sassy Crowning Moment

Lips:
Spell gloss in Haley’s Bite

Face:
Fyrinnae Velvet-gel Silica Primer
Sassy foundation in Neutral Fair

Perfume:
Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs Titania

Titania is described as a nocturnal bounty of fae dew-kissed petals and pale fruits: white grape, white peach, iced pear, musk rose, sweet pea, moonflower and snapdragon.

When worn on me, I couldn’t smell the fruits but I could smell the flowers, mostly I think the sweet pea. It was nice. The scent filled my office without being overpowering, so whenever someone came in they’d comment on it and ask what it was.

I really liked Crowning Moment blush, as I found it easier to work with than Bloom with Creation. However, that may have been because I used a different application method.

I really like Hissy Fit, and Pixie Sprinkles is interesting. I felt like Atomic was too warm of an orange for me, and that Ruby Slipper leans a little warmer than I like my reds, but it is nice. Why Not? worked really nice with Ruby Slippers.

By using the face primer, it was much easier to apply the Sassy foundation. I took some pictures out in the sun of me in the foundation and color Neutral Fair is a pretty good match. I put it on at 8:30 this morning and with the primer, it still looked good by 4:30 pm, with minimal shine on my nose and forehead.

This afternoon when I got home, I could still smell the airbrush paint on Phaedra (it’s doggie safe paint that the groomer used), and she just didn’t seem to be acting quite right, so I decided to bathe her. So now she looks like a little lamb. Phyrra had a little lamb… named Phaedra.

Sassy Foundation in Neutral Fair

So I’ve only worn the foundation one day, I can’t give much of a review on that. My initial impressions are that it is a very full coverage foundation.

The blush seemed ok, but I had a bit of trouble blending with it.

The eye shadows are fantastic.

Some more random shots of Phaedra the Skelepoodle for you to enjoy.

I love my standard poodle!
